Final April Fools predictions?

Recommended Posts

We are on the home stretch to April Fools, whatever they are doing is going to happen on Friday night. Guides are showing a 2 hour block of Aqua Teen at midnight, so it seems whatever they are doing is gonna be another short one. What’s everyone guesses? Think they will do anything with the comedy shows before Toonami?

I have been seeing discussion that certain people have gotten a screening of the Venture Brothers movie and it’s complete. Just airing it outright wouldn’t be much of a prank, but I have a good feeling the Venture Brothers audience will be the butt of the joke this year.

The Venture Brothers movie is officially complete. ;)

If it is ATHF, it's more likely going to be that new movie again.

Possibly in Portugues. <.< >.>

Frickin' Porno Frankenstein also has a new movie out - 'Big Shark' so there's always that possible horror being aired with black boxes covering all the screen 70% of the time whether needed or not [since it's technically being released on April 2].

I'm more drawn to the website for some weird reason. I actually have Saturday off so if I decide to stay up late to actually see and enjoy/be disappointed in anything, I can.

So I have been kicking this around in my head all day, I’m still team Venture Bros movie prank, but do we think they may try to wedge in something for FLCL as well? I know, Toonami is narrowly outside the prank window this year, but anime projects are still AS originals and don’t necessarily have to be married to Toonami.

Im considering it because it’s kinda been full on radio silence on the FLCL projects, despite both allegedly being on deck for this year. And we have this bizarre MHA burnoff going on, that would conveniently potentially allow a Grunge premier a few weeks after pranking with it.

Imagine it, 11:30pm on Saturday, TOM walks in without a word, and pops in the first episode of Grunge subbed. Midnight rolls around, TOM makes a quip about how it’s the first time he has seen the audience in a week and MHA rolls on like any other night. Realistic? Or are my Sunday idle thoughts too ambitious?

Okay, so what I am wondering is what day [as] does the prank on. It could even be on the 31st and the 1st, like they have done a few times in the past. But I am expecting it to be on the 1st, so Saturday.

Possible options:

I definitely think there is a high chance we get some sort of corrupted and altered premiere like FLCL, Venture Bros or something else we do not know of, with the rest of the block running some marathon or programming with subs, extra characters, etc.

The Room could be done again haha (I think there is supposed to be some upcoming remake or sequel to that?)

Maybe we get a subbed marathon of MHA.

ATHF movie in some sort of subs?

Tin foil hat theory here: They air AoT subbed followed by some marathon of something.

I definitely think a lot of it will have to do with whatever they air being corrupted and invaded by characters from other shows or something similar too haha I guess we will have to wait a see. I would love any of these options and would really like to see them do something on both nights, but it is probably just on the 1st.

Place your bets!!

Some years they have done the night of the 31st and the pre midnight of the 1st, but never in history have they not done something on the night of the 31st.

They have also never had a prank leak into April 2 before, so the actual Toonami part of Saturday isn’t going to see anything happen, as when TOM walks down the hallway it’s officially April 2. The hours before Toonami are fair game though, and there is certainly the possibility they get changed into Toonami for some kind of prank.

They did it back in 2017 and 2018 IIRC. I do remember them doing it back in 2007 as well!

Here is what the adultswim.fandom says:

"March 31, 2017: all of the regularly scheduled episodes were aired, but this time, the voice switching gimmick was used in which the proper voices for those shows were replaced with added laugh tracks, Seinfeld stings, robotic and pitch-shifted filters added to particular voices, various sound effects and alternate musical tracks.
April 1, 2017: In another rare prank two-fer, the evening portion of Adult Swim was replaced with the first episode of Rick and Morty's yet- unannounced third season, "The Rickshank Rickdemption", which aired repeatedly from 8 p.m. until midnight (shortening Toonami's run for the night and preempting premieres of Samurai Jack and Dragon Ball Super in the process) and also streamed on a loop on the adultswim.com streams all night.
March 31st, 2018: Adult Swim stealth premiered the first episode of FLCL, FLCL: Alternative, in Japanese with English subtitles (even as the show's second season, FLCL Progressive, had not aired yet), breaking Toonami's policy of exclusively airing English-dubbed anime. This was followed by an airing of the film Mind Game, also in Japanese with English subtitles. Most of Toonami's scheduled shows for that night (featuring JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, Hunter × Hunter, Naruto: Shippuden, Space Dandy, Cowboy Bebop, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG) were pushed back to 2:45 a.m. after the film, and all aired subbed instead of dubbed. The block aired special bumps featuring TOM and SARA and a game review of NieR: Automata, all dubbed into Japanese with English subtitles and pink colors instead of the usual green. The Adult Swim logo was changed to Japanese (stylized as [アダルトスイム]), affecting both bumps and the channel bug. The short Scavengers finished off the block at 5:45 a.m. Block runner Jason DeMarco confirmed on Twitter that all original scheduled programming that was affected by the English subtitle joke after Mind Game would air the same episode dubbed the following week.
April 1st, 2018: On April 1, 2018, in yet another rare prank two-fer, Adult Swim aired normally until 11:00 p.m. when it started airing a animated parody of Rick and Morty titled "Bushworld Adventures", created by Michael R. Cusack. It looped three more times until midnight, pre-empting Rick and Morty and two Mike Tyson Mysteries reruns in the process. All of Adult Swim's nature-themed bumpers that aired throughout the hour were Australian themed. This special short was also simulcasted on a loop in a marathon stream on adultswim.com all night."

Pretty sure I remember this too, so in fact yes, they have done it before..

EDIT I think I misread and thought you meant that they have never done something on the 31st and the 1st haha but yea they have never skipped the 31st

I also botched what I was trying to say in my initial post haha

What I mean to say was that I think they might do split prank on the 31st and 1st, since they seem to do that when it falls on the weekend, and we do have the same March calendar as 2017 I think, so that would be awesome if we got a full prank on the 31st and then some pre midnight [as] or even early Toonami shenanigans on the 1st!

I could see that this year. I feel like Friday/Saturday years they try a little harder since more people will tune in since they don’t have work the next day.

Another thing I could see them doing on the first before Toonami starts is having all the comedy shows before Toonami starts run with proper Toonami bumpers, complete with TOM and Sara quips about the shows. Maybe even tailoring the episodes to ones with “action” scenes for the bumps, like the KotH episode where Bill steals the tank

Yass I am really hoping that they do indeed do something for both days since it is over a weekend!

I usually do not watch [as]/Toonami until 11 or 12 but I will try and watch both from when they start haha will we have a mega thread in here somewhere? Hope so!!

The online schedule has changed from 2 hours of Aqua Teen to this lineup. The Space Ghost episode is Fire Ant, presumably the extended version. One of the infomercials is Broomshakalaka. The Ambient Swim is Christmas themed. And up top is two total mystery slots.

No idea how these pieces fit together, or if any of them are even real. This could be a second layer smokescreen for all we know.

Your post threw me off for a moment but then I realized you must be Central Time Zone haha I am Eastern Standard!

But I will see you guys around midnight (or 11pm if you are Central!)

Something tells me if that schedule's legit, they're gonna insert a whole bunch of other stuff into the ant-following scene.

I am excited to see what happens tonight. Is there going to be a discussion thread? If not then someone should make one.

Nose goes not me!!

Hah, I’m actually not I’m in EST. I grabbed that image from somewhere else and didn’t even look at the times. I kneel before our CST friends who get to go to bed earlier.

Hmmm... my guide still shows the regular lineup. Guess they're out of the loop. Well, whatever it is, probably about the only thing that would shock me is if they aired Ranma or some other old anime like that. Just based on history though, last time it fell on a weekend they ran Toonami in Japanese with subtitles. Doubt they would pull the same stunt twice, but guess we'll see.

Prior to the recent schedule drop, I was expecting either a Royal Crackers world premiere super-spectacular, or Post's Game v2 featuring a different musical artist... maybe Goose? Now I'm expecting it to be the latter, with or without melts. More than anything, I'm happy that they're seemingly actually going to do something this year, as I thought there was a non-insignificant chance [as] would forsake doing gags due to their new corporate parent. Not to mention, who (outside of Japan) celebrates April Fool's anymore?

As for Toonami, I'm not expecting anything on that front, but I do think there's enough in development for the block that they could throw together a night of stealth premieres/pilots. Come oooooon first episode of Uzumaki!

Seems you were correct in calling Royal Crackers!
