Naurto opening themes.... WTF is going on?

Recommended Posts

You know that opening theme from Naruto that would play before every episode at the beginning of the series when shown on CN or AS? It had vocalizations of grunts like "AH" "UH" and some heavy metal shred guitar? Did just dream that up, because according to youtube that was never a Naruto opening theme. This is all I can find for any Naruto opening:

What the flying fuck happened to the one CN and AS played all the time?

That was an America-only OP. Only played the first 52 episodes in place of ROCKS and Haruka Kanata. In place of Kanashimi wa Yasashisa ni, they played Haruka Kanata set to a montage of show/OP clips. From Go! on, the practice was outta style and the OPs played regularly from that point on.

Thank you, found it. On closer inspection, there are no grunts, just Japanese words and the English word "Rise!"

My best guess was because the first OP sounded like a slower, bouncier version of “The Summer of 69” so they added some guitar licks and “HOO HAA WAA” chants in the background to keep the kids awake until Asian Kung-Fu Generation saved anime with “Haruka Kanata”.

It reminds me of how Adult Swim skipped FMA’s first OP because it had no edge to it and took notes from Tetrapot Melon Tea on how to smash the tambourines.

Shut your mouth, Melissa was a great song even if it wasn't as edgy as the OPs to follow.

I was under the impression (still am) that Ready Steady Go aired for three cours instead of just the one because Aniplex was pushing the L'arc~en~Ciel album the song was on in the states around that time, and that nobody knew who Porno Graffitti and Cool Joke were, hence their songs wouldn't sell.

I loved Melissa, but I thought it was a case of Adult Swim and CN in general being cagey about more easygoing anime opening. It reminded me of why they completely skipped the easygoing Naruto one even if the anime community at large was getting more and more disgusted by American-flavored anime openings like the 4Piece Rap. I think the Rurouni Kenshin OP was one of the last ones at the time that was more chill.

Surprised to hear that they might’ve been trying to push L'arc~en~Ciel. There was that small fraction of time when US recording studios were trying to get Hikaru Utada popular in the states. But I can see the favoritism towards the more commonplace anime music bands like  AKFG, Uverworld, or L'arc~en~Ciel. Or the rights were easier to obtain for Ready Steady Go before the home video release.
