I just did mine in an AutoZone parking lot on my recent 1,030 mile road trip... $110 and 30 minutes.

Depending on the car, it can be pretty easy (if you have a reliable friend who isn't a hack and knows his way around cars)... and if you're able to wait, get one on Amazon. I got a shitty remanufactured Duralast for $110 because I had no choice, but if I could have waited I would have gotten a muuuuch better brand new ACDelco part for $85. AND I had to take the old one in to get a $45 core. At least I was in the parking lot :D

If I am in a thread, you don't need to tag me.

But I just solved the tagging issue all together.

That's ok I can just go to the next victim

That's a little on the high side, but not outrageous, national average is $589.

Again, bummer to hear about it, have a glass of Moscato and sad tunes....

I have a 2012 Chevy Captiva. They told me it was going to cost $630... 😭😭😭

Apparently you have to remove the passenger side engine mount along with its bracket just to get the alternator out of its little hole... Looks like a lot of that cost is labor.

I did the same thing on my old camry....right in the parking lot and I didn't know what I was doing, just looked it up on my phone......but they make things way harder to get to in these new cars it's like they don't want anyone working on their own shit....

That must be a new thing....It's why I have always been able to replace them on my American made cars with little to no trouble.

Had to take one off my 626 and it was mounted almost under the fucking motor...Like wtf.

It's why mechanics hate engineers.

The Captiva is definitely not an American car... thank you Korean engineering.

Psh, alternators aren't that bad if you can find a place to repair it. I don't think I've ever had to totally get a new one.

But not like I know what's wrong with yours

I was on my way into work when everything just started shutting off. First my radio, then my speedometer and other gauges stopped working, and then I lost my turning signals and brake lights. I was just about to work so I just kept going, but I’m sure people thought I was just driving like an asshole. It was kind of scary...
