Let's Get Ready to POLKA!...

One of my favorite things was the VH1 Behind the Music episode about Weird Al where he says that his parents got him an accordian as a child, because they thought it was important for there to be TWO famous accordian playing Yankovics.

Also an old friend of mine got to see Weird Al in concert in Nashville in the early 2000s.  Said he did a cover of "Stairway to Heaven" that was INSANELY good.  I'm very envious to this day.

So now I share a fun song that I never heard the original version of until like 25 years after this parody.

This is absolutely astonishing.  I think this is Oasis's best song, but this cover is just so much fun I adore it.

I'll be honest. I'm not entirely sure I even know who Oasis is, beyond a faint recognition that it was probably normal people music, and would thus be likely to elicit a response (success!).

My takeaway from this is that polka makes everything better.

I was thinking "Real" Polka, like the Ampol Aires or The Naturals or the Versatones.

He knows 'real' polka, the lessons he got as a child were for classic accordion which he uses as part of the pop culture medleys on the albums.

I saw him perform in Wildwoon NJ.  Right around the time 'Like a Surgeon' came out.  The costumes for that song were... .... ....let's just say it's the only time I ever felt awkward at a concert.  So, job well done Weird Al!!!

If I ever find the pic I took with him and autograph I'll post it.  (I've moved a lot, no idea where it's buried).  Btw, his hair was as soft and bouncy as it looked.

I know he does, I have "Besta Polka" where he plays with Frankie Yankovic on a song.  But his mainstay is not straight Polka, which is a shame since most Polka bands no longer play anything lively - more like slow waltzes.

Thank you for bringing up his hair.

Al seriously needs to go back to the 'fro, glasses, and mustache look. Fuck this wavy-long hair, clean shaven and contacts (or lasik) business. He had a one of a kind iconic look, now he looks just like any other musician.

Someone post that to his twitter for me.

You seem...

As opposed to...? I keep weird hours on my off-days, I actually used to pull a lot of all-nighters (that could explain any incoherency in the past, lol) but I don't really do that anymore. But depending on what day it is I might be posting in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening, or late at night. What times of days have you noticed me being incoherent?

Well considering I'm rarely here during the day...I'd say late at night.

But maybe it's just in general, like more than I remember from the past, and not cause it's early. *shrugs*

No no I'm not that clever.  I was just spewing nonsense to throw off the scent.  I make little sense until I've had my afternoon nap.  And then I'm not on here until I am once again ready to bid logic adieu.

Because reasons. And turtles. Oh, and sunflower seeds. Lots and lots of sunflower seeds.

😄 Aw  and porcupine trees, sentient beings, personally I'd opt for the turtle pie myself...but I like red-ear sliders.

Red-ear sliders are good. Then again, so is dancing on the ceiling with good friends and companions.

That was one of my favorite pass-times as a kid; holding a mirror right above my nose while I pretended to walk on the ceiling.  We had wooden beams and fancy filigree on some of the ceilings in our house.  Wow, I can remember the mirror my mom had...flashback!

:D

One of the troubles that comes with not caring to be caught on film is that I've never taken a pic with him despite the opportunities I've had. I was at least going to post the pic I took back in Oct 2000 when he got his hands in cement for the Walk of Fame around here. But I can't find it. :D It was one of those things that was carefully packed up with intent to eventually frame and I think the Mystery Closet ate it. Which means it'll get burped up / out eventually.

So I'll post the autograph from that first concert as well as the infamous 'One More Minute' scarf that he came out in the audience and gave me during the show. :D:D:D
