I’ll answer this for future posterity: I have nothing to do with any edits made to any of our shows, that’s entirely in the hands of our Standards and Practices department. I don’t know why one scene may be edited and another may not. They tell us what needs to go, sometimes we appeal, sometimes we win the appeal and sometimes we don’t. Either way, complaining to me about edits won’t help you. Sorry.

You answered that for future posterity, but didn't link to it when people asked about the Fire Force edit.  Ok, then.  How many people does he really think look at ask compared to his twitter? 

So, Standards & Practices is responsible.  Sometimes they appeal the edits, and sometimes they win, sometimes they don't.  But something tells me Demarco rarely if ever appeals fan service edits, and doesn't make much of an effort if and when he even does.  Still, that doesn't change the fact of how nonsensical this edit was, given everything else that has shown on ASA and Adult Swim's incarnation of Toonami over the years. 

I mean, basically the only thing in SAO that was edited was that extremely graphic and gratuitous rape scene in Alicization.  All the rest of the fan service, including Kirito tripping and landing on Asuna and grabbing her boob "on accident," very similar to the Tamaki scene, was left in.  Kirito decapitating Oberon after he ripped Asuna's clothes and assaulted her was okay to show, along with Raios and Humbert being dismembered after their attempted rape (is this a pattern I'm sensing?), all the other fucked up stuff in SAO was okay to show.  Miroku and Roshi have pretty much been allowed to be in their glory all the time over the years.  Helsing was only edited when it came to fucking a corpse.  Everything else was perfectly fine.  Attack on Titan, little to no edits that I can recall with all the violence there.  Deadman Wonderland had very few edits and I think most of those were on the Japanese end.  Akame ga Kill and Tokyo Ghoul's edgelord content remained intact.  Kill la Kill only had a handful of subtle edits with most of the fan service and sexual stuff of that show left alone.  But you edit out grabbing a boob and a butt, the same thing Kirito, Miroku, and other characters have done over the years?  Is it because his hands went under her top and pants?

I mean, I still feel like the things I listed and still others are as bad or worse than that.  Oh, and -

While I definitely agree and won't complain that the face sitting scene was left in that just makes this all make even less sense that this was okay to show a few minutes later in the same episode!

And add on to all of this, Demarco's aversion to fan service in general, and this baffling edit, they get fucking Food Wars, knowing full well the gimmick of the show, being filled with foodgasms and nudity at every turn.  There is no consistency here as far as this edit.  There's been a new merger, but I don't know if that would make much of a difference.  Even before this, the different companies that were part of Turner, Demarco had mentioned how it didn't really help with getting rights to stuff (think he may have been referring to JoJo back then?), and companies still acted separate.  Not sure if that would change now.  I don't think that's much of a factor and personally I chalk this up to classic Adult Swim/Toonami/Demarco nonsense.

It looked like water.  Could have been foam.  Whatever the case, fire fighters use both, and they're portrayed as regular fire fighters that work together with the Fire Soldiers.

I wonder when the pyrokinetic concept will be explained.  If they've always been around or if they got their powers around the time Infernals showed up, and if they're related.

She really doesn't look like Maka to me.  Just because of the hairstyle?  Maka has green eyes and blonde hair, and looks different facially.  Maka is skinnier and even more petite and completely flat, or nearly?  Tamaki is petite too but still has actual T'n'A--

S&P is handling Food Wars but it is possible that FUNimation edited that episode of Fire Force without Toonami’s knowledge or request. Surely we haven’t forgotten that one time they played an MHA episode that had All Might’s dialogue censored and different than what streamed? Sometimes FUNimation gets overzealous with editing stuff for TV despite Toonami being on Adult Swim now. And other times they just flat send the wrong version of an episode.

It is also possible that S&P did the edits as they did with Food Wars and Jason just means the Toonami team did not do the edits. But due to his uninformative answer, we may never know. If the censorship doesn’t persist then it was more likely FUNimation and Adult Swim informed them that such edits aren’t necessary. If it continues to be edited then it either is AS S&P or they requested FUNimation to continue editing Tamaki’s compromising moments.

Tamaki got the same hair style,same head shape,same lips,same eye brows(just less simple and shorter) ,bigger part of her eyeball is also colored two different colors and has the one of the same eye shapes that maka can be seen making in one of her facial expressions(a rectangular oval shaped eye besides tamakis inner pupil probably derived from  soul eaters Blair the cat,along with tits and ass

so Tamaki has a different nose,different less simple eye lids(but can be seen making one of the same shapes as makas eyelids in  many of her serious facial expressions,more detailed ears,more detailed  smaller pupils,no chicken legs or nearly flat chest,colors,etc

hell, Tamaki is probably an unused character design of makas mother.Who knows?

Maka also had the weird doll eyes with no pupil or shininess to them.  I think in a few situations her eyes would look "normal," but not sure what the purpose of that was.  That sure sounds like a lot of differences lol.  But I gotta admit I didn't look that close.  There's actually not a lot of good comparison pics, mainly for Tamaki, I guess because the show is so new and not many have been posted online.  Do people even still do screen shots of anime like they used to?  Still, even just looking back and forth at both of them at what's quickly available from a lazy google image search, you can see that.  But just saying, nowhere near "same character design," lol.  To say they even look alike is a stretch to me.

I think the art style has changed too much from Soul Eater to consider her an unused Soul Eater character design.  I mentioned it before, but this show seems to look more "normal," whereas Soul Eater was a lot more stylized and over the top.  The buildings, vehicles, characters, all look more realistic.  Though Shinra does have shark teeth, and that captain lady looks weird and has weird eyes.

It said that Maka is 13 and Soul was 14.  Death the Kid is 14.  Black Star is 13.  The Thompson sister ages weren't given.  Neither was Tsubaki.  Those were all I looked up (well I looked up Black Star and Tsubaki just now.)  Was trying to avoid manga spoilers in case I ever get around to reading it.  I would've thought they'd be older, and also more around the same age.  It says there's a one year time skip.  I don't remember that happening in the anime, so that must be a manga thing.  Anyway, at the start of the manga/anime(not Soul Eater NOT!,) those are their ages.

If by "normal eyes" ,you mean that you can see a pupil and a line inside the corner of makas unique looking eyes,you can only see those when she makes her serious facial expressions,surprised facial expressions(but keep in mind it's not all present in everyserious ,surprised expressions) ,but it's present in every scene where's she in black blood transformation 

 

I haven't seen enough fire force so my knowledge on that is lacking.I'll take your word for it though.it seems your correct

I will say though that the art style for fire force is looking  more like  typical generic anime though,kinda similar like  to soul eater not

That first one is from DeviantArt, so could be off from how she looks in the show.  Could be a redraw too, which wouldn't look exactly the same.  The second two are legit from the show for sure, though.

Well, I'm tired of looking.  I'm not getting anywhere.  I can't believe there aren't more pictures uploaded of Maka and her different expressions and how her eyes change, since it's such a distinctive and memorable thing.  And Yahoo was no better, less of the relevant results.  And Daos was right about it being easier to find anime porn there, but you also get a ton of it when not looking for porn!  What the hell.  Turn the safe search on and a good amount relevant results get nulled along with the porn.  And I'm not even going to bother with Bing, lol.

It's made long mostly by the pics I posted.  I could have spoilered some of it, I guess, but eh.  I was determined!  And still didn't find most of what I was looking for.

Well it was hosted from DeviantArt.  That's meant for uploading your own art, not just putting random images up.  If it's not at least a redraw ,then they just jacked a screen shot and claimed it as theirs, or at the very least are misusing the site, as it's not an image hosting site in that sense.

You yourself just now admitted not everything on DA is a redraw. So how is that helping your argument that you can recognize if something from an anime IS a redraw by a fan?

Usually you can tell.  Usually they will change something, the color, whatever.  Even if they try do it exact you can usually tell something is off.  The way Maka looked there it seemed not like an original screen shot.  And as I said, if something on DeviantArt isn't a redraw or original art, it shouldn't be there!

This an extreme example and all from Black Blood form, but I don't think we'll be seeing much like this in Soul Eater.  Hibana got pretty crazy at times, but not to this level, I don't think.

like elfie has already brought up,My first image of maka i showed was definitely not a deviant art creation.I have seen the  entire soul eater anime and that exact episode multiple times and that scene is legit real.it's showned right after maka dodges the first strike against the chainsaw wielding golem.I guess I can understand from your point of view,that you haven't seen the show for so long that scenes like those can throw you off or slip your mind.it also didn't help that the url was listed under deviant art for some reason

but yeah,maka's eyes never creeped me out.her character design was always too cute to give me that impression.she was also  not a very typical protagonist  that we seen in shounen anime/manga before.I liked her. 👍

the first image here with the 'Gloss's eyes maka was only seen in episode 21 if I'm remembering correctly

The second image is definitely from soul eater not.her character design there is much closer to how atsushi okubo drew her from the beginning of the manga.he suddenly then starting drawing her character design  and the other characters more similarly to the original soul eater anime iirc I think about near the beginning of the third arc in the manga but Im Not exactly sure

the third image does remind me of haruko or jinyu and their guitar action scenes lol

That image looks like more of a adult maka.could probably passed for makas mom even though atsushi okubo never showed off her character design

 

I do remember some of the other different eye expressions of maka for sure.I'll try listing them down from what I remember from my multiple rewatches

You only see this 'angry maka background' every time maka unleashes her "maka chop" on a character

And no,she never at one point says something so cold like that during the manga.this was simply a fan edited thing,with the scene most likely maka scolding medusa outside her prison cell

And Yes,you seem correct though on fire force.it hasn't been nearly as outlandish as soul eater,it does appear to be more dark,more serious.

Yeah I haven't seen it in a while, and the image came from DeviantArt.  Which means if it is a screen shot, that person just straight up stoled it lol.  I guess I remember wrong.  I thought when her eyes gained pupils, they became glossy as well.  MANDELA EFFECT!

When they are in the "normal" state they are creepy to an extent to me.  Like I said, they look like doll eyes.  Just about every other anime character would have reflection in their eyes.  In fact, whenever the artists want to show that a character is unconsious, in a trance-like state, stunned by some shocking thing happened, etc, they will show their eyes looking flat and dull, with no reflection.  But that's how Maka's eyes are all the time!  So yeah, it's really weird.  And there was never really any reason given for it, that I can tell.  Except maybe for it to be more noticeable when her eyes and face change for certain moments.  Unless maybe it is revealed in the manga she is some sort of artificial creating, I dunno, lol.  Other Soul Eater characters have weird eyes, but again, they don't look lifeless, lol.  I was able to get past it since I like Maka, but it still bugs me lol.

I thought it was the time she tries to get Crona to be friends?  I thought that happened more than once, but maybe it didn't.

Well that is weird that he changed the art style, then changed it back.  Can't remember if it was Soul Eater NOT or something else that had the really cutesy art style?  And I thought it was more lika spin-off with a new cast, but this was the same cast and everything, but just a prequel?  It's really annoying they made that but didn't do a "Brotherhood" of Soul Eater.  Also don't get why companies make up endings to shows instead of just pick a stopping point and then they could go back to it later.  Though, funny thing is, Blue Exorcist made a continuation, but didn't remake the whole series, so I guess you're just expected to know where the series diverted and continue it in your mind from there.  This is why the filler ending thing should not be a thing!  At least it seems to be a lot less common these days.

Man that sucks if it's true she was never really shown.  Odd indeed.  Yeah could be adult Maka.  Not sure how old they are trying to show her there.  The fact it's a different art style can throw off apparent age, too.  Tough to say.  Nice art, in any case!

Most of these other ones are pretty heavy art shifts, and things even other characters would do, so I don't know if I would count them the same, but Maka's eyes change regardless during them, of course.  I was thinking more of the times her eyes change specifically, which were up above.  But yeah, thanks for that catalogue, heh.  I ought to re-watch Soul Eater one of these days, and read the manga.
