At any rate, the $2200 is steep for a vehicle that isn't running, but the body is in good shape and the stake bed is attractive to a contractor or a smaller supply delivery service.

yeah, I kind of thought it was a contractor truck. I don't know why he bought it he's a line cook :D

Depends on the driveline and how much rust and what works/doesn't.

Like, if it has a smallblock 400 and an SM465 transmission and solid floors, hell yeah $2000... it's a '73 or '74.

Buuut, its been sitting. Tires will need replaced, brakes will need work. So if it's a 350/auto truck... $1500.

Truck.jpg.90459df8dbd4dd4edeed4249637444f2.jpg My brother in law is trying to sell it for $2,200. I don't think anyone's gonna buy it. it doesn't run. Don't ask me why it doesn't run I'm not @Rogue Alphonse

Scrapping it piece by piece is probably your best bet. I'd find someone that's good at salvaging, and cleaning up parts, and have them tell you what's usable and whats not.

Find out what's under the hood! I mean if it is like super low miles and in really good shape and all original, it can bring in something too. 73-87 Chevy trucks are on that borderline where collectors want then and stuff like that, but at the same time the market isn';t there for them yet.

Scroll through local listings and see what similar trucks are going for.

Not worth what? The time? Depends on how desperate you are, and how much time you have on your hands.

I probably wouldn't mess with it.

Not worth parting out. I have parted out 5 or 6 73-87 Chevy trucks.... the time and effort to do it is not worth it.

Even the clean ones have rusty bolts.

Salvagers don't bother with that shit I know. You'd have to break it off most likely, there may be "salvageable parts" though

which is what you look for. I'd check under the hood if anything.. but all that snow..

rain.. eh.

Well let's break it down here real quick.

Say it takes you about 12 hours total labor getting the front half of the truck parted out... as in cab, front clip, cooling system, engine/trans.

Now factor in the average prices for everything.

Most likely, that cab is non-A/C and is also a 2wd cab (trans tunnel is lower than a 4x4 cab, less desired). $500 if it has no rust holes.

Front clip... well all together and its shape, could bring in $300.

Doors - probably manual doors, $300 on a good day.

The whole interior... gauge cluster, dash pad, fingerbang bench, plain no-tilt auto steering column (73-83 had wipers and high beams on the dash/floor so it is not desired) ... all that together maybe $300.

Engine: If it's a 350, probably $150 running.

2wd TH400... $150 as well... nothing special.

Or just sell the thing for $1500 and not go through all that bullshit... plus an undesired frame with a flatbed on it sitting in your yard you probably will end up selling for $500 about 4 years later.

I'd say that's a pretty fair estimate. May even be a bit generous I know, but without actually looking at everything theres no way to be exact. I definitely wouldn't try to do all the "labor" in one day.

Most people do as much as they want.. Sell what they can. and come back tomorrow. It helps to have a shop, and tools though.I doubt someones going to pay $1500 for it if it doesn't run. Salvaging is always a last ditch option for me when I can't get buyers. It helps to have junk and scrap yards around. They are your friends.
