Expand This is the first episode I've seen in like 6 months... it seems very generic. Supposedly that's actually its strength, that it embraces how generic it is and just tries to have a good time with it.

CorbeauKarasu Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 this encounte actually strikes me as being rather interesting was the diamond kingdom attack just a story pretense to give these two some alone time?
mochi Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 the word love just flashed on screen when they showed Yuno and Asta as babies

Expand some of the lines are so in your face I'm willing to call it a soft parody it's not a parody in the sense that perfect hair forever was a parody but it's a parody in the sense that Star Vs. the forces of Evil is a parody of the Disney Princess formula 1
ben0119 Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Yay Charmy is in her normal form! Well for a while anyway. Yuno is so awesome now! Charmy hahaha. Lol the glasses guy is still tsundere. Damn eaten by the tree. STOP WITH THE OLD MAN THING! After that guy says to the Diamond Kingdom never retreats, Lotus retreats just like that lmao. What other magic do you have. Lose the mask. Hahaha. 1
CorbeauKarasu Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 i can understand that argument and you may be right, but i can't bring myself to buy it, to be honest. feels less like an examination of shonen tropes and more like an exploitation of shonen tropes to gain artificial demographic popularity but we'll see, i guess.
OwlChemist81 Posted January 13, 2019 Author Posted January 13, 2019 https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/black-clover/episode-52/.137725 Grade: "B+". Yeah, I agree. I would have given it an "A-" for scenes like the aerial fight, but maybe I'm a little generous. Time to start the hunt!
Daos Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 It seems to give a wink and a nod to the various tropes as it uses them, but to be parody you have to be playing the series for laughs, this thing has a serious story it's trying to tell. Haiyore Nyaruko- San, One Punch Man and Gintama are parodies and it's obvious what they are.
ben0119 Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 I'm pretty sure Black Clover is self-aware, and a parody to some extent, yes. I point to Asta wanting to marry a nun as one of the most ridiculous things ever, obviously a joke. And Noelle is so over-the-top tsundere she has arguments with herself in her head. Charmy fell in love with Yuno because he caught her food from falling. Meanwhile Yami just bowls through all the bullshit and confronts Vangeance, and constantly takes the piss out of everyone in the show.
