Marathon announcement: Attack on Titan Season 3 on November... 17?

If you haven't realized it yet, that's before Thanksgiving, and it implies there could be another marathon the week after. Personally, I'd love that, but I'm probably in the minority.

..... first off, they made TWO new schedule change announcements today?

Second, why the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving?? They're obviously gonna do one that following weekend! This seems fishy.

Demarco picked up 2 actual good shows that he should have picked up.  But, between these gut punch, momentum destroying, week wasting marathons, and bringing back Pop Team Epic... it's like it's 1 step forward and 2 steps back with him!

@Daos You had nothing to worry about!  Another bowling ball must have fell on Demarco's head and undid the Fred Flintstone style personality change improvement!  FUUUUUUUUCK!

there wasn't a thanksgiving marathon in 2016 so one this year isn't guaranteed

wonder why we have this random marathon though

I was wondering how they were gonna handle the fact that AOT Season 3 Part 1 ends on Nov. 10 and it would be pretentious to debut the first episode of a new show on Nov. 17 and not continue until Dec. 1, but I GUESS nuking the whole lineup on Nov. 17 and not returning to it until Dec. 1 is a decent option I hadn't considered!

That said, there's no doubt in my mind that there will also be a marathon on Nov. 24, and with that SSB Goku balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this year, I DARE Toonami to choose anything but Dragon Ball Super...

Very peculiar but if it means we get Megalo Box on November 24th, then so be it. It's entirely possible that they are able to start airing it two weeks earlier than originally planned.

I think that’s what’s up because otherwise they could have used filler for Titan’s slot on November 17th, done this marathon on November 24th and started Megalo Box on December 1st. They're really not flexing their creative muscle if they felt this was the best way to dealing with Titan ending two weeks before Thanksgiving weekend. Doubling up JoJo, Clover or Jack at the end is simple enough.

If this means two marathons in November then they should have just took Oct 27th off and started Mob this week but we should at least get Megalo Box on December 1st which would allow it to air 3 episodes before the December break instead of just two. However if I'm right about the regular line-up airing on November 24th then Megalo Box gets 4 episodes to establish itself before the December break and that's preferable. Thanksgiving weekend doesn't always do poorly for Toonami so they could run the regular line-up that weekend.

While AL might be right on the money about a DBS marathon taking advantage of the fact that Goku Blue is appearing in the Macy's parade, it's not like DBS wouldn't be airing one way or the other and a DBS marathon could be held on December 22nd instead.

So okay if they actually do two marathons in November then they definitely should have taken October 27th off and this would be the oddest Saturday to run a marathon on thus far but we'll live. And if they actually can't start Megalo Box until December 8th regardless that better be strictly because the dub won't be ready till then, which unfortunately is possible but I'm hoping that won't be the case.

Yes if the reason was a new show not being ready or something ending too soon and things not lining up right or whatever, they should have just doubled up on something for a week, like Sketch said.  They've done it before.  Doing this marathon randomly like this is just asinine!

Really?

Well that’s a let down. Marathoning the show only to restart the season in the same slot for two more weeks before FLCLA finishes its rerun so it can move in and make way for Megalo Box. As bleh as three weeks of Titan reruns at midnight would be it’s preferable to a marathon that nukes the rest of the premieres for a week.

Good to see they've actually scheduled the whole month of November even if that's the case. But AOT's rerun getting its first 2 episodes at Midnight is just freaking lazy even if there's really nowhere for it to go until Lupin ends, which is why I feel they MIGHT double up on Lupin's finale and give PTE the night off (not like it has any continuity to destroy) on December 1 right before AOT moves down to the back end with #40 (303) on December 8th.

But in that case, why does it have to be Season 3? It will be a little while until we get the 2nd half, so I'd keep Titan on the block and go back to the start of Season 2!

Now that's just weird. There's no reason why they can't switch the dates. At least Megalo Box isn't affected, and it seems they're sticking to their guns (and my personal prediction) of premiering it on the 8th.

This has got to be some of the most sloppy-ass programming I've ever seen.  It reeks of ASA's schedule monkeys.  Has Demarco lost his mind just when we thought he was finally sane again?

I just read the release date info and avoided the trailer and other spoily stuff.

So, I thought I vaguely remembered hearing that Attack on Titan Season 3 was going to be split.  But I don't think they told us this upfront did they?  And six months?!  Why not just call it season 4 at that point?!

Yeah with a 6 month break it should be called season 4 but maybe it was planned conceptually as a 24 episode season and they couldn't manage it. It's possible the second half was delayed due to WIT's work load. Oh well.

Wasn't there some issue with episodes being unfinished and rushed out with the first season?  They need to get their shit together!

Much easier said than done. Japanese animation production schedules can get brutal. The delays are to ensure they don’t have the same issues season 1 had.

No, FLCL Alternative's 2nd run also ends on December 1st. I mention that AOT episodes will probably air on Toonami those days but I don't mention WHAT TIME! I think the leading theory right now is for #38 and #39 to re-air at Midnight, while the show moves down to 2 AM for the rest of the 3rd full encore of Season 3--but I don't see any real need to do that. After the marathon, AOT should take a break until after Lupin the 3rd ends and then replace it at 3 AM, while something new like MegaloBox or hell even Goblin Slayer takes the midnight slot, or 11:30 and moves Mob to Midnight. I leave those dates in red because Toonami just might pull a rabbit out of their hat and either bring out MBox early or acquire something else to put in AOT's place.

Oddly enough, the last show they brought out early WAS AOT Season 2. It had been previously announced for April 29, 2017, but since they decided to give Tokyo Ghoul a break on April 15th, they were able to premiere it on April 22nd instead.
