Crunchyroll to start producing original content because all the cool kids are doing it.

I mean you do know that there are anime that would fall into "SU looking shows" right? I mean that's just an asinine statement you made.

This backlash is nothing to do with how the designs look and everything to do with whiny pieces of shit thinking they own the genre and if CR dares to make their own stuff then it should cater to them. Anime is not the only thing CR does. They show live-action media as well yet no one is making videos dragging them for that. If this were some generic "guy goes to another world and falls in love with a talking pair of tits" then they wouldn't give two shits.

But Netflix is airing the live action Sword Art Online...

No, I get what you mean.  This just seems more pointed than the She Ra nonsense, which everyone knows damn well should only be asking where Skeletor is.

as a side note Alex Hirsch (Of Gravity Falls fame) signed a deal to make several animated series aimed at both kids and adults with Netflix

and posted a gifset of him bragging that Netflix has no censorship guidelines on twitter as the annonuncement

and he was very vocal (moreso than any other content producer) while working for Disney that they kept rejecting his proposals to add a gay storyline to Gravity falls

namely the scene were the Love god matches up an old lady and an old man in a diner was originally him matching up two lesbian old ladies but Disney forced him to make it straight

so maybe Alex will give me the gay cartoon I've been hoping to one day see

you're sending kinda mixed signals actually

Well I’m the first one to point out the issues from both sides, but I’ll say it again, it’s not the show, it’s the room.

And Hirsh has a Netflix deal?  Cool.

.. that would've been a one-second-long mention, played for a joke, never to be mentioned again, and Disney STILL rejected it?!!?  The fuck?

At least it was apparent that the two officers are gay.

eeehhh, I guess, not that Blubs and Durland are the greatest characters in and of themselves but at the very least they weren't stereotypes and did say they loved eachother...in the final scene of the series

Hah Disney still doesn't wanna let that cat outta the bag huh? I guess they know all the family values people will go nuts.

Sorry Elsa you're straight.

Disney's never even had a (proper) Latina Princess, I don't think a Lesbian princess is their top priority

(they do technically have Elena of Avalor but she's not counted as an official princess since she doesn't appear in Wreck it ralph 2)

This thread needs to die already. I loathe the fact that we're giving the opposition towards CR more support by posting their videos here.

Well I am afraid of that option in case any new news materializes. Especially when that CRX panel is still on for this weekend.

In the meantime, you could always... uh, log off of this place, plus any Twitter account you may have.

The panel wasn't canceled. And judging from the pic, the controversial writer was in attendance.  They also revealed more info on their other shows, and that the staff made a point of casting actors of other orientation and race to play characters of those identities. Would like to know more specifics though.

.....if a gay man is anywhere in that cast they have my support (I'm just genuinely angry at Voltron enough to support this show to spite it)

if the show is purely lesbian....sorry but I already get my Lesbian representation fix from Steven Universe....**sigh** I'll still watch it though

That panel looked like another shitshow.  “Look how diverse we are!”  Motherfucker bragging about that instead of showing content is why everyone is pissed off in the first place.  Not to mention we got zero named for original productions besides Not Little Witch Academia here.

Stop giving the “Get woke, go broke” people more ammo.

Another thing they seem to be doing that has people cheesed off.... is acting like this mostly all girl cast is unique in anime. There's tons of girl heavy casts in anime, and not just the 10 million harems.

People seem to have settled on calling this "Bargain bin little witch."

Well, it's either we support the show and its writer who thinks men are evil, or we side with the anti-SJWs who think that women are genuinely evil and want to commit violence against them... and also minorities.

Considering that GamerGate and its associated crowds have lead to a mass profitileration of the alt-right, I'm not going to support any of their efforts to defame shows like this. But on the other hand, the actual product we're seeing is milquetoast enough that I'll just be ignorant rather than give it spite support. This is one of the few situations where I will support neutrality, even though the indifference in not taking a side has played a major part in our current hell timeline being created.

I'm willing to bet that most people on Twitter have moved on from this, including a good chunk of the GG crowd. We should follow suit and put this one to bed, at least until it actually premieres.

I'm gonna wait till it airs before I decide how woke it is but I'm picky when people claim to be woke feminists because I've dealt with enough self proclaimed feminists on tumblr to be able to tell actual feminists from women who call themselves feminists for bragging rights

basically if your feminism treats men as inherently violent towards women you aren't one because part of feminism should ideally involve addressing the fact that misogyny is a LEARNED behavior supported by society rather than an evolutionary trait of all y chromosonal humans, and if your feminism excludes trans women and attempts to classify trans men as women who hate themselves it is also shit

and frankly IMO ALL facets of the LGBT community deserve rep not just Lesbians or not just gay men so if the show is only covering Lesbian storylines, and not also trans, bi gay male or any other members of the community....it's not...really as "woke" as it's trying to act like it is

I could say the same about Steven Universe but being that SU is on a mainstream kids channel with a BS&P department....it's kind of miraculous that Steven Universe even gets away with Lesbian stuff to begin with

I also feel the need to add that we've already seen one show claim that it is being woke and feminist and actually coming across as the exact opposite of that

namely the Powerpuff girls revival

which got rid of Ms. Bellum who was THE ONLY FEMINIST CHARACTER IN THE SHOW,

and had several episodes full of transphobic and homophobic dog-whistles

Details on the panel. Of note:

- it was NOT A Q&A. This was emphasized clearly in the program and the panel itself.

- ever wonder why it's now Tuesday and you still don't see any video about the panel? THAT'S because they PROHIBITED RECORDING.  Which I predicted they'd do and also which I hoped they would NOT do!

- High Guardians Spice was a show that was created in 2013 and which networks like Nickelodeon rejected in 2015, at which point it went on to become a comic on Tumblr and now a series.

- revealed animation exists. A seconds-long animation of the two main characters was played.

- "Forming alliances" was a phrase used about 15 times to accentuate the relationship delves.

- There's going to be a lot of "angsty boys" (uh oh), and a lot of angst in general. A lot of crying as well.

- Most of the animation is done by a Korean studio. Said studio also did the inbetweening animation on some Ghibli films. So yes, this IS NOT A 100% AMERICAN PRODUCTION, if you were ever wondering.  It also sounds like this will be traditional frame-by-frame, instead of ToonBoom cut-out animation and tweening.

- We finally get a solid idea of the story, setting, characters, tone, themes, and genres this will feature, so people can rest easy on those. I WOULD'VE loved it if they had just included all that in the trailer instead.

- they previewed some sizzle reels of the other original shows that will also roll out in 2019, but they did not reveal who the creators were behind them like they did with HGS.

Both these two first points show the blatant censorship of the very fans Crunchyroll is trying to enforce.  Why people still go to this expo, I have no idea.

- ... oh and there are dragons. COOOOOL.

Is this supposed to be a GOTCHA thing? Most American produced animated series are animated overseas in Korea, Japan, or even France.

There was some doubt, considering this is an American-conceived show on a platform that hasn't made a cartoon from scratch before and that a Japanese studio isn't a guarantee that it will be traditionally done. And there are a ton of American-produced cartoons that are done in a cut-out style these days anyway.

So she dropped the jar and they both freaked out. .... like we predicted.  ... is there a twist? Is the twist that there IS no twist?  Is there a punchline I'm not getting? WHAT'S THE JOKE?  It must be a portion of a complete story we're missing.

I mean I see no possible way the show will be worse than Black Clover......though I actually enjoy Black Clover from a bile fascination point of view so **shrug**

Why hire the person whose comic was unceremoniously cancelled after sales dropped 90% to work on a show Nickelodeon rejected for original projects on a website that still uses Flash?

Why waste so much time and energy whining about something you aren't interested in?

Does it make you feel better?

Because you can literally just ignore the goddamn show, you know? Not watching it is actually the most important thing you can do. Sitting around whining about it on the internet only spreads it more. I know more about the show from this thread than I do from anything else because I never read anything Crunchyroll put out about it because I wasn't interested in it. The less you click, the less you mention it, the less you engage with it... the better chance it has to fail if that's truly your goal.

in my defense, I actually intend to watch it because I'm curious to see what it ends up being like (which has got to be better than Black Clover), and because I'm so sick to death of gay male characters dying alone that I intend to watch every show that claims to be diverse and see if they actually deliver on those promises or are just bullshitting....like every other show is

also, Jman....I actually think you're looking at this the wrong way if THIS can get greenlit that kinda means Streaming outlets are actively LOOKING to greenlight rejected shows or shows that should have happened but never did

so in a way

this could actually make it more likely that the mangas you wish had anime adaptions might actually get them
