Lasty
Naw, man. I'm glad he lived through it and that he loves his cats and that he had the balls to actually launch himself after building the thing. I mean, compared to all that, for me at least, being a flat earther is just one of those "agree to disagree" things. I'd drink a beer with the guy. For the record, I'm not. I just heard about it, and posted one thread because I wanted to participate in a marginally pointless discussion about it instead of checking to see if there already was one only to read it over. Hmmm... I'd say your assessment of that potential motivation is fair enough, but death is a reality most people distance themselves from and suffer during more of the time they have left as a consequence. That is to say, death is a very significant part of our reality, and walking that line isn't necessarily a sign of total delusion. No doubt the guy has issues (and who doesn't) but he could see at least a part of what's going wrong with society; that people tend to placidly and complacently accept what authorities spoon feed them... It seems to me like the guy was shaken and is basically just glad to be alive, which is the best case scenario after the fact of having launched himself in a rocket he made.
