i said to myself, "don't buy everything, just enjoy your time and buy little maybe useful things."

and that is exactly what i did!

you ever notice how obscenely priced things are at cons? as i was looking around, i happened on a lot of toys that we have carried at work for a third of the price people were slinging them for. makes me wonder if i should secretly be buying and flipping that shit. hmmmm, i'm sure there has got to be some rules against that...

Not to my recollection.

I'd never spend that much! You crazy.

ERMAFURKENGERD....

ok so....I love vegeta....if you didn’t notice.....

well anyways LB went to this convention without me one day cause I had to work and he bought me this model of a saiyan space pod...so I spent the night putting it together so I could get it signed cause I knew he would be there. And I was one of the first people in line to see him that morning. Well I walked up (mind you I was dressed up in steampunk) and I said “hello, it’s nice to see you, would you mind signing this for me?”

And he said “oh wow, I don’t think I’ve seen one of these put together. I mean I’ve signed lots of boxes for it but not the pod.”

so he was checking it out and I showed him how the door opens and closes and he says

“I kinda want one of these now, in like a major way”

and I said “oh yeah? I’ll go get you one, we got it here”

and he says “oh yeah? Really? How much are they I’ll give you the money.”

and I said “oh no I wouldn’t make you pay, it’s my treat”

so I left and I got him a model and bragged and showed off my signed one at the booth (cause I’m that asshole)

and I brought it back to him and he gave me a hug and gave me this awesome signed holo poster

Solid move girl. That's a fucking awesome experience... and a good story to tell. One that both of you have now!

The shop is in Ann Arbor.

Oh snap, I see. Maybe they were there, I can't remember all the names of the shops that were set up. This one was in my lil city on the opposite side of the state but there were vendors from all over. It's only the second year they did it and it's not very large by any means, like, in comparison to some others that have been around a while and go for a few days. It seems to do well tho! So I'm excited to see how it grows.

Ive gone to "antique" stores and found things for sale that still have the Dollar General price tag stuck to the bottom. It's pretty common.

Yeah, some of the toys I saw still had marshalls tickets on them.they tried to block out the original tag with their own price sticker. I could still read the price code though because we used to have to convert the tickets to tjmaxx using the codes at the top. So it was an 8.99 toy they were slinging for 35. Hahah!

i dont think there are any rules against doing that.

if i were you, i'd be using my connections to buy stuff at a low price and flip them for a profit ;)

people do it all the time.

Seriously thinking about it. Cheap stuff plus my discount, pssshhhhh...

Mmmm, Con Swags.... *drools

:D:D:D

Love Con Swags. So much to see, so little money. :D My walls are getting covered slowly but surely with Venture Brothers art. Most of the bigger 'fancy swag' stuff ends up as gifts for friends.

I think the markup on some items is due to both Nerd Demands and because most Cons get either a percentage of the booth sales or a flat rate for the booth space so things have to have an increase somewhere along the way to ensure that the booth gets paid for along with all the costs of traveling to the Con in the first place. I usually split the difference and just give stuff away if you can find me. One year it was Hamburger Eel tie pins from FishCenter Live and last year I had a bag full of KidRobot [ adult swim ] vinyl figures and enamel pins. Everything was pre-screened so you'd be able to get the one you actually wanted instead of one from something you didn't like. I'm considering enamel pins again this year - just coat my swag bag with the buggers and give / barter them away to fans [I like Coke... <.< >.> ] . :D
