Clu
Did I miss how they prevent over serving? I scanned it.
PhilosipherStoned
that was one of the best parts.. I havent looked into this very much since I just recieved a notification about that article, but here's what it had to say. The concept of a self-pour bar is simple: After being ID’d, you open a tab. Then, depending on the bar, you’ll likely receive either an electronically linked bracelet that has your credit card information pre-loaded on it, or a radio frequency identification card that’s roughly the size of a credit card and can easily be stashed in a pocket. What I was wondering, and what I took @Clu for meaning, is the equivalent of when the bartender says, "ok, I think you've had enough."

Well I've been drinking...but I don't seee how the concept of "You've had enough" would change really. bouncers and policemen will always be thing that's for sure... and it's 'their job' is to know when someones had enough. How would they tackle over serving and all the potential legal issue around this?
wacky1980
even with an automated system such as this, there would still need to be a bartender or some lesser level of babysitter on hand to avoid abuse of the system. i can't imagine people are just given free reign once they drop their ID and credit card. that's stupid. besides all that, i'm not sure how they skirt the legal requirement of having an actual person doing the actual serving, because afaik there's no such thing as a "self-serve" retail liquor clause. these systems have been around for a short bit though, so i'm sure they have it all figured out.
