thats understandable knowing how close you are to your folks.  are you christians?

My mom is a religious Christian, I'm not sure about my dad. I'm not really religious. I mean they're not gonna mind if I drink now, but it interferes with my meds, it tastes awful, and the one time I got drunk in 1999, it didn't feel all that good so I don't see the appeal. As for pot, I'm sure my parents wouldn't mind me doing certain kinds, as my brother recently started a business selling cannabis oil, and they are helping him out with it. I am assuming the only reason they wouldn't be ok with me smoking pot is because of the smell. They definitely wouldn't be ok with me doing harder drugs, but even when I'm on my own I'm never doing harder drugs anyway. Like someone else in the thread said, I think they're far too dangerous.

who here has not been under the influence for a reasonable amount of time?

i just want to talk about why that can be difficult and requires determination.

there's a few points people pass while getting sober; the initial withdrawals, the recovery, becoming abstinent, and remaining abstinent.

the hardest part imo is the recovery: if you can make 35-40 days and not give into to a craving, you're almost home free.

the next hardest part is remaining abstinent.  an addict sometimes has trouble remembering all the reasons to stay sober.  so a relapse late in the process becomes likely.

on the other hand, becoming abstinent after a tough recovery can be very self-satisfying and personally challenging.

when you re-examine priority and important life circumstances with a sober mind and a new will to succeed, its very motivating and inspiring.

i want to be abstinent without ever being challenged, but thats impossible, so all in moderation, amirite?

Sober for eight years and every time I see a drink, I want it.  I have to stay a few steps ahead of that.

i thought there must be a strong connection to religion in your family because of the respect you have for your parents.

i went to a Christian school for a year and met a couple metal heads that were religious.  you remind me of them sometimes.

ohhh...  8 years and it must be rough....

my experience tells me when you dont know when to put down the drugs, or cant, its time to evaluate how and when to get clean.

you are past that into the world of keeping safely away from the substance, and i can tell you that you must remind yourself how difficult

it is to stop the habit and affliction in its grip.  if you need a sober buddy, i might not be 100% sober, but i can listen and at least help with

my experiences and not to preach but listen, so PM or @ me if you need to.
