Rumb0
About 7 years ago, I remember reading reports that North Dakota was an emerging state with unprecedented economic growth even though the entire country was suffering from the global-recession. I never considered moving there, but with the changes my home state has gone through, I am somewhat considering it. I won't even consider it unless ND has demand for IT. KreiaDidNothingWrong
I have no idea if they have a demand for IT, but didn't the Dakotas boom because of oil? I don't really like states that rely that much on oil tbh. Things go well and then it just collapses again after like 8 years. That will possibly affect your job even if you don't work in that industry, or if you work IT for an oil company.

NaBarney
@katt_goddess might tell you yes, but it's pretty transparently a barren hellscape.
KreiaDidNothingWrong
Why not move to Arizona? The desert is actually really cool, they have better schools than meme flyover states, and you'll probably be more likely to find a job in IT. If it's that you're specifically looking to move to a red state or something that's a better bet than ND imo.

KreiaDidNothingWrong
Just now, Noboru Yamaguchi said: And if you're a fan of year round ball soup Yeah that too Although if you live in northern Arizona it's actually not that bad. It's actually green and mountainous because you're basically in Colorado.
nameraka
Pretty sure that was during the shale oil boom when oil prices were through the roof. Since the price of oil has dropped, I doubt they’re growing that fast now. They were mostly booming in the energy sector even then. Doubt IT was a priority. katt_goddess
Today's temperature is a balmy 2'F with skin splitting arctic gusts while I was out running errands after work. This is actually a minor heat wave. It was around -30'F earlier this week. No 18 foot snowdrifts yet this year though. Sad face. The thing is, there are jobs here. Everyone is hiring because no one wants the jobs that are available [mostly minimum wage food service stuff and retail] . We got a massive influx of morons who thought that they'd automatically receive a brick of gold for showing up during the initial oil gush and then realized that they needed money to even live in the area because the various WalMarts decided they weren't going to be man camps anymore and let people live in their cars in the lots. We have a firey derailment about once a year from the oil mess. Pipes leak but most of the time it never really makes the news because leaks make the oil companies look bad especially after all the protests. Speaking of protests, the oil companies hired mercenary groups to cause problems but shhh, don't talk about that too much either. The ambient radiation levels of the state of North Dakota are higher then the highest readings from that nuclear meltdown that happened in Japan a few years back. And, if nukes fly, a good chunk of this state will split open and burn too because this is where the big boom-booms are buried. Bedrock makes solid launch pads once you've carved the holes down enough. IT is picking up though. We build and train drones and drone pilots. Rumb0
So I take it that's a big no then. How are prospects in Nebraska. I heard it's overran by feral cannabis.

Well, if weed is your thing, the voters here voted to allow smoking weed for medical purposes [not just oils or whatever] and you will be allowed to grow your own plants if you live so far from a legal dispensary once it goes live. Chapinator_X
Not even the movie Fargo wanted to stay in ND longer than the opening scene.
