How to shoplift from Amazon Go?

Recommended Posts

Amazon opened its new store today in Seattle.

Which presents a new challenge to shoplifting enthusiasts. For the first time ever we have a futuristic store that has real computer vision and machine learning to enforce the shopping. Definitely not impossible even with all the robot eyes.

I want to go to Seattle just to try. I’m honestly excited.

what happens if you fill up a bag of food, walk out, and it charges your amazon account, but there isnt enough money in your amazon account, and you just keep walking?

The card you payed with will be charged instead or if you payed with PayPal it will be billed as well

i'm sure someone smart enough could create a shopping bag that would act as a Faraday cage

They don’t attach any sensors. I haven’t researched it thoroughly yet but the articles say there’s hundreds of cameras watching and they’re using AI and ML to track your activity in the store plus the shelves are also scales. When you pick up an item, it’s added to your shopping cart, if you put it down, it’s removed from your cart.

Ppl are theorizing that its also to watch what you look at to mine more data on your interests/habits.

I used to work for Meijer and their biggest theft was liquor 90k a week just at 1 store entire franchise was 375k in a week so I guess this could be the future

oh.  so you would end up with a negative balance if you were poor.  i guess you have to be "signed in" to the store on a smart device, so nonmembers cant just steal.

You could steal someone’s identity which will probably be the easiest & preferred thing to do. I wouldn’t do that tho. For this thread I’m thinking about methods that don’t involved using a stranger’s money.
