They’re set up for legal occupancy. I wasn’t the only one. They didn’t really care. Idk if they discourage it nowadays or not. I heard a few years ago things kinda changed. It might be less ratchety. Idk.

Looks like it'd be a very noisy place.

It was. I was on the metal/rock side. Most started rehearsing late in the evening. By 11pm there would be death metal bands all around my room going all out all at once. After about a month I could sleep thru it no problem. That first month was maddening... I was posting on asmb at the time. I made threads about being able to sleep thru 7 bands at once but nobody paid much attention to me back then.

Music rehearsal studios were always one of the best places in college to get nookie. The only problem was that by the time I was starting my thesis, they made it only accessible through key card entry. Some guy stole instruments and ruined it for everyone.

Each of our rooms had super loud alarms. If u opened your door w/o putting in your code it was painfully loud. Security cameras everywhere. Which when I initially rented the room I assumed would make me feel safe lol

That would have driven me absolutely insane. I cannot sleep if I can hear music.

You're definitely more resilient than I am.

It was a big step up from living in my car. I rented the room bc winter was coming and cars get cold unless u leave them running all night. I did the Pursuit of Happyness thing sleeping in a heated bathroom in a park for about a week before I found rock city.

Rock city even had internet so I could cam again. And it was super good internet bc it was a business line and nobody used it bc most ppl were just there to rehearse.

So at the time it was like the greatest thing and really helped me get back on my feet.

Sounds like you made it work for you, which is pretty awesome actually.

It was the hardest period of my life. It feels like a million years ago. Looking back it sounds cool but at the time I was completely terrified that I’d fall further into even worse situations. Like I sucked a few dicks right off the street for amounts under $50 bc I was out of food.

The good times were smoking weed & cigarettes w/various bands and honestly posting w/u ppl helped me feel a bit normal.

thats so awesome.  how many people rented for their music?  HA! so you lived with bands there all the time.

Most rented for their music and didn’t live there. I only knew of like 6 who lived there 24/7 like I did. And out of them only 2 weren’t in bands. One was an artist who painted & drew stuff. He had one of the big rooms down the hall and mostly kept to himself. The other guy didn’t seem to do anything but drink beer w/the bands. I don’t even know if he actually rented his own room or not.

There was a guy a few rooms down who was guitarist for a rock band. He slept there most nights. He actually looked out for me and would give me cigarettes (for free no bjs). Imagine the dude from Big Lebowski except w/flash burns on his eyelids from where his wife tried to shoot him in the face.

I mentioned it before but yea that’s the place. I was in the 500s.

It was unique. Kinda miss it. Kinda don’t. I don’t miss that communal bathroom. I made it work by getting a gym membership nearby and showering there. Rent + gym membership = $185/month.

So u were in a band?

Sounds like a legit step up from life on the street aside from the metal bands going at it all night.

I should rent a room in a music studio.

I recommend it if you’re down and out in Cleveland

If that ever occurs, I will try to make friends with some of the rock and metal bands, show them my vocal skills and see if I can get on tape with some backing vocals or something.

I wonder how many metal bands are there now / what the metal scene is like in Cleveland these days.

life experience is something else....I genuinely hate it, but I can't be me without it.....

Sorry I missed this. Really sums up those days. Sometimes I wish I could be all undamaged tho
