How do you feel about all the new technology?

I like smart phones but fuck tablets. I'm all about laptops. 2-in-1's don't appeal to me either.

Haha that’s a light sentiment. I was kinda after some deep philosophical musings. But all thoughts welcome

Mostly pessimistic.

In the hands of corporations whose goal is profit above all and governments that believe everyone is deserving of scrutiny, it will become a tool of control and surveillance.

Humanity's better nature will not win out.

I gotta agree w/u except the last part. I think we will but only after a long hard road full of suffering & death

Hm... Well e-dating apps have ruined my friend's chance for romance. He will absolutely not listen to reason and keeps falling for the scammers who use instagram models'/ pornstars pics for their fake profiles. He needs to ditch the damn apps and pick up women at bars. He's very outgoing anyway.

I want a robot body, so I'll let you guess

That doesn’t excuse u

what kind of robot body?

100% inorganic? Like a mind uploaded to a software brain in a hardware body? In this case, would a simulated brain in software be ok? Or would you want a hardware brain w/physical artificial neurons & junk?

or do you want to get rid of everything but your brain & put it into a robo body?

or are we talking even more cyborgnetic? Like you want to keep as much human body as possible but supped up & upgraded?

and if THATS the case, does it have to be hipster-cyborgnetics? Like you look like natural human on the outside but inside you’re more machine than man? Like Rick Sanchez or the executive dude from the new blade runner? Or do u not care if there’s bare components sticking out of your skin?

or something else?

Honestly I think the internet is more of a curse than a gift

Ideally full synthetic eventually.

I don't think mind upload is possible though. I think it's more like your brain will have to naturally be replaced with synthetic parts via nano-tech.

Until then brain in a robot body works though. My humanity doesn't really matter a ton to me and I could just do a bunch of cool shit.

Would you ever want to die? I’d assume a full synthetic via nanotech could be repaired indefinitely

Maybe at some point, yeah. If I was still capable of boredom at that point then it would be inevitable.

Still capable of boredom? So in your new robo-self would you want to alter the emotions that you are able to feel?

I know how you feel. I wonder what would’ve happened to me. If I’d still be where I am w/my porn gig.

Not necessarily, but I'm aware there's no guarantee they'd be the same. It might for all intents and purposes "kill" the current me, even if it doesn't literally in the "u are a copy!" meme.

So I might be the same in thought process, but I might not be capable of things like boredom anymore.

Without the easy access of Internet porn, t-girl porn would probably be far less profitable.

It’s anazing how unaware people are to the economics of porn..................

If you could choose, would you want it as close to how you think now, or would you want it changed? Like unable to feel negative things like boredom, sadness, fear, etc while also somehow still feeling things like ambition and the drive to live & do things?

All these doodads, with their buttons, and lack of buttons! Back in my day, we had phones that were shaped like phones, and the tv was shaped like a tv! Now it's all rectangles! Too many rectangles!

I mean TVs were always pretty much rectangles

What do you like? What are some things you notice other people being concerned about in particular that you’re indifferent to?

Idk, I like computer stuffs and smartphones.

I'm pretty indifferent to all these like fitbits and smart watches n gadgety shit like that.

I have a feeling that whatever happens will serve to only divide the rich and the poor even more than they already are.

Better computers, more advanced transport, technological implants and augmentations that will only be available to those who can afford it. It won't be for mass production, it will be to create an upper and lower class of human. Or that's how I see it.

Or, in another scenario that becomes increasingly likely, we destroy ourselves with some newfound technology that we find a way to weaponize, or that gets out of control too fast. That is if we don't all die from the atom bomb.

I don't know. Maybe one day it'll all be good and happy but I don't see that in my lifetime.

I don't mean to sound like a philistine or anti-technology, I think a lot of the things we have today are great. The fact that we can even communicate with each other right now from the comfort of our own homes from miles away is incredible. But I fear the acceleration of technological advancement will lay us to waste.

Smart watches are dumb to me. It's like a smart phone with an infinitely smaller screen (and keyboard?) and to use it for any decent amount of time it would probably make your arm tired for holding it in the appropriate position for several minutes.

But you know what's REALLY stupid? Those damn hoverboards. "hoverboard." What marketing genius came up with that name? Back to the Future Part II invented the concept of hoverboards, which was basically a skateboard without wheels that floats a bit above the ground and could go over any surface. The real "hoverboards" are nothing more than segues without handlebars. No hovering of any kind going on.

I'm all about new technology. I love technology. It ensures accuracy and efficiency in many things. That doesn't mean I'm obsessed with it. I just prefer using it, when possible.

Is there ever too much? Or any lines that shouldn’t be crossed?

OOH I KNOW YOU'RE NOT REPLYING TO ME BUT I HAVE TO GIVE MY TWO CENTS

Great technology that can and probably will be misused at some point.

Proprietary vehicles that can literally drive themselves to the shop without your approval for routine maintenance and automatically charge to your credit or debit account.

Likely will be exploited at some point by hackers for any number or crimes, from simple theft to murder or assassination.

Corporations and governments can track your every move made in that car (not that they can't do it already with your smartphone but it's another mode of surveillance).

But that's the tradeoff for safer roads and more efficient travel.

The whole point of driving is to get from point A to point B.

There's something very freeing and powerful about being able to command your vehicle to take you wherever you want. Actually controlling it, steering it, hitting the gas and feeling the acceleration, the feedback that you personally created.

I think there will always be "manually driven vehicles", for lack of a better phrase. But for the common person, they will become outmoded and impossible to use at some point in time.

I'd rather have more available public transit like train systems in other countries than self driving cars tbh

One more thing I'd like to add to my earlier point about technological advancement leaving us in the dust.

The point of automation fundamentally changing our society is getting a lot more attention. We still don't know what the effects will be. I don't think it will be some utopia where everyone can do what they want. There will be a lot of unskilled workers who won't be able to find work and won't have the money or tools to get an education to do something that can't be automated. What are those people going to do?

Universal basic income is a novel idea, but how many people will actually be willing to have money taken out of their paycheck to support people who can't find work, or, in some cases, won't find work? I envision a scenario twenty or thirty years down the road where masses of unemployable people are dying on the streets, or rioting for their old jobs back. The likes of which we haven't seen since the Great Depression.

But all for the rich to get richer. Fuck the poor, they can sort it out on their own!

I don’t think it makes you anti-technology to question who benefits from things or whether the rate of change is dangerous or not.
