I think the problem with most of them is they're too "designy" like - people are all "alternating dark and light grey - NOW people will love me". I still am hoping to find a way to render a theme like the Proboards theme that's basically unobtrusive. so - I agree the themes for SMF are all shit. but I disagree that "bland" is a bad thing. I want the theme to be functional and easy to use. Not - like some distracting thing in and of itself.
