  1. There is no racism in the show. Well, attempted rape, and it's not nearly that many. I'd say the only ones that really count were Sugo with Asuna in Fairy Dance, and this last one in Alicization. I don't think tentacle monsters should count, or at least, I don't think it's as serious as having a human do it. And I don't think Shinkawa was trying to rape Sinon in that scene. Funny enough, the first arc actually didn't have any rape. If the show could have just stayed like that... How was that ever claimed? I saw the part with the American gamers more as playing up on gamer dudebro stereotypes. They were told the Underworld was just a mindless hack and slash game so that's who signed up. There was even a big shut-in fat guy all hyped about the game! I thought it was hilarious. It was even funnier in Japanese since it was all Japanese voice actors speaking horrible English.
  2. It was more that they wanted AI that was willing to kill, I think? That limiter was put in there by an INSIDE MAN, it was just revealed (or Asuna theorized) not one of the Rath people. Remember that Kikuoka was annoyed that the people in the world were too nice and there wasn't any law-breaking or so much as littering going on. And that happened because of the Pontifex and the Axiom Church creating that Taboo Index, which used the eye thingy. I thought the Pontifex made that but it's in the Dark Territory people too and apparently put in by someone working against Rath secretly. So, this would be a really advanced form of an AI that they created, presumably better to use in automated warfare. Presumably they would have some way of forcing them to follow orders if they put them into a machine.
  3. Are you talking about the SEED dev kit thingy that Kayaba gave to Kirito to release so people could make VRMMO games based off SAO's engine? I don't think it had the instructions for how to make Yui with it. I think the government doesn't know about Yui. Does anybody remember if Kikuoka shared any scenes with Yui when he was in the games as his elf character in season 2?
  4. Yuuki isn't a Mary Sue since she is bedridden and has nothing better to do than play videogames. They even said that in the show, that that's how she got so good. They compared to them being trapped in SAO. The fight against the evil Santa boss was to get an item that will revive someone that has died in the game. Kirito gets it so he can revive Sachi, but it turns out you have to use it right after the person dies. And there was also the message from Sacchi, which I thought was touching. Do you mean season 3? I haven't read the books yet. I've been meaning to. But I've heard they are better than the anime, which does cut out some things, but I don't know if it's "98% of the story." I do know some people were complaining about the pacing in Alicization, but stuff was actually cut, not added for padding! Unless things were cut and then padded elsewhere. If the stuff about the characters having to go to special schools and be monitored by the government was mentioned a lot more throughout the series, that makes more sense than having it suddenly come up at the end of this last arc. Yeah well Kikuoka and Higa's group were already set up as villains, but then these spy guys working for the NSA came in as the even badder guys, heh.
  5. The compositing director going down with depression was the reason War of Underworld Part 2 was initially delayed. And I see on the bottom of this article it says SAO was delayed from April until July! Why did they wait until now to announce the delay?! They just had a trailer recently. I thought all the work was done!
  6. This is late, but I finally got around to checking this. I'm doing a personal marathon of a few shows, re-watching the past few episodes of SAO, Demon Slayer, and Black Clover. And I re-watched both the Japanese and English version of this episode. I noticed that Gabriel says this - "You're to enforce the tightrope walking no matter what." Instead of ordering executions if people refuse to go across the ropes. Though I guess that's not much of a difference. Lisbeth says the same thing about bringing back the draft in the Japanese version. Looks like Japan used to have a draft, but it was abolished in 1947. Also Ronye calls Kirito "Kirito-sempai." When Vassago heard her use that term in a previous episode, that's why he goes what the fuck, because the people in the Underworld shouldn't be using such terms. She picked it up from Kirito. Since the SAO dub really hasn't used honorifics that much, only the familiar Kirito advice that Vassago remembers is retained.
  7. Addressed this in my other post. Yeah, as mentioned, it was a way to get cheap heel heat for the villains. SAO wouldn't be as popular and successful as it is, if it was mostly just people watching it in MST3K-style fashion. Well, Yuuki and all her friends all had debilitating diseases. It wasn't done because they needed to someone to die because they can't be killed in the game. Those characters were in such poor health, that they were bedridden, and really got a lot out of playing these VRMMO games since they could walk just fine and do whatever they want in these games etc etc. It was meant to show the good the games could do. You know how we always hear about all those programs for sick kids and people in hospitals. Yuuki is such a likable character, too. And, there have been in-game funerals for players in real life. I dunno,' I thought it was one of the best arcs of the show and thought Asuna and Yuuki were great in it.
  8. Fire Force is super-solid? Really, dude? Not saying the show is terrible, but it had questionable writing and pacing at times. The Hibana and Rekka arcs were too rushed and not built up properly. After the traditional Japanese squad people were introduced the show got better. But then it just went off the deep end with the over the top powers of Sho and then how Shinra counters them. The technobabble for those powers would have even Data short circuiting! The show stopped being grounded. Then Shinra shrugs off being stabbed through the heart. Then it completely abandoned having the powers be explained or make sense, when that doctor lady just sets Shinra on fire and "her power heals because it looks like the healing snake symbol." Come on. I would say the fan service wouldn't be such a problem if it wasn't happening at such inopportune times on some occasions. Like during the serious fight with Rekka, was not an appropriate time. But, if there just wasn't any fan service or the fan service was better done, it's not like it would suddenly fix those other issues and the show would be so much better. I'd say the issue is with the girls in SAO is mainly in specific moments, and especially with a specific story arc. If we treat the Fairy Dance Arc like the Bount Arc of Bleach and pretend it doesn't exist, we're much better off. The scene with Sugo assaulting Asuna, in front of Kirito, no less, was extremely fucked up, but then the one in Alicization, when we thought were done with all that sort of thing, was just fucking heinous. And yeah, as has been mentioned, Reki uses it for cheap heel heat to make the villains more evil and hated, when it isn't necessary. People do like to be selective and only focus on bad scenes, and omit others, like the time Asuna rushed to save Kirito and broke the game to run across the map to get to him, saving him from that murder guild guy. Yeah, characters like Lisbeth, Silica, are pretty meh. Suguha, I like her but she could have been better. But Asuna, Sinon, Yuuki, Alice, how can you hate them? But at least Reki seems aware of his writing mistakes and has promised to do better. And in my opinion at least, the show has improved as it has gone along (aside from Fairy Dance, of course.) https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2018-12-11/reki-kawahara-apologizes-to-voice-actors-for-latest-sword-art-online-episode/.140635 https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2019-01-21/sword-art-online-author-reki-kawahara-says-female-characters-should-not-be-treated-as-trophies/.142337 He was also aware of the issues with pacing and time skips and other problems in the Aincrad arc which is why he is remaking it with Progressive. And look at this article I just found! https://www.animefeminist.com/feature-when-creators-strive-to-improve-female-representation-the-case-of-sword-art-onlines-reki-kawahara/ You gotta' give credit where credit is due!
  9. Well, that sucks. But, any idea if this is something that was going to happen regardless, or is happening due to coronavirus? Either way, can't really complain too much, given the circumstances. Of course, that won't stop some people. And yeah, budgets and show picks and whatnot were probably made well ahead of time. So the only issue should be with airing anything that isn't fully dubbed. My Hero Academia is an issue because of how close the airing is to the dub. That shouldn't be a problem with most shows. Huh, I had no idea that older shows would be more expensive than hot new shows. It seems counter-intuitive. Old shows, even ones popular in their time that might still have a following, aren't going to have to the same kind of demand as a new show people want to watch right this instant. There's also the unfortunate issue of people not even wanting to look at classics or give them a chance. Because they're "too old" "before my time" "aged poorly" etc etc. It's like how people who won't even watch black and white movies just because they're black and white, when those are some of the best movies we have! So yeah maybe don't charge so much for something like Ranma and you might actually have some people stumble upon it and significantly increase its fanbase. At the same time, I can see companies charging out the ass for a show because they know a network will want to have this hot new show that will likely get them lots of viewers. So... that just... sounds odd... to me. But, whatever the reason, if old shows can't be afforded, then I suppose it can't be helped. That means any older show they might get to fill the gap would have to be more obscure. That would still be better than reruns or lost time slots, but again, if they can't manage it, it's understandable. My thinking would be that their budget was already committed to what they were going to get anyway. If any of those shows had dubs that got delayed, then they're fucked. The shows that were done they will be fine. I do feel like a dub could still be done safely. You've got one person in a booth, and maybe a few other people in another room or rooms. It's not like there is a huge crew crowded together to do this, as far as I'm aware. Of course those people would still be going back to family, some of whom might be at high risk, if those employees aren't themselves, even if they are interacting with a handful of people, and mostly at a distance. I'm unsure if the other studios will be able to swing that setup Funimation had for doing that MHA episode. I suppose we just have to wait and see. I'm glad to hear Demarco has a new show coming, though. I suppose it's the replacement for Demon Slayer?
  10. Wow, that is quite an impressive set up they've got there! Well done! I had no idea Luci Christian was that old, though.
  11. I was trying to find out the status of any of the shows but it looks like there are no updates yet. When I googled "Toonami news," "Is Toonami cancelled?" is the top suggestion for people also searched for.
  12. But if Asuna was able to use that power endlessly there would be no challenge in defeating Gabriel. It's a literally a god power that lets her reshape the landscape (and heal her severed arm apparently.)
  13. It was in the related videos, heh. Well, she did the fighting demon version too, with a few minor alterations.
  14. @DangerMouse That girl you posted in the MHA thread also did a pretty nice Nezuko cosplay. No idea why she keeps making the bedroom eyes, though! Well, I guess that is supposed to be Nezuko's scared/shy expression lol.
  15. Well he had a scene all to himself where he vowed to defeat Kibutsugi. No reason for him to put on an act for himself, so I don't think this is another Vangeance/Patry situation. There is definitely something weird about him and those twins though.
  16. Link didn't embed. D: But I fixed it. Good cosplay! I still think Mina has a quasi-cute-creepy look. She would look fine if it weren't for her eyes being black where they should be white. But I have been getting used to and warming up to her look after a while. But then I see cosplays and it brings it right back!
  17. I detailed it in this thread. The compositing director, an integral position, was having issues with depression. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2020-04-03/sword-art-online-alicization-war-of-underworld-anime-2nd-part-english-subtitled-trailer-streamed/.158280 Yup the last cour is still coming out later this month, just as they initially announced when the delay was announced. So I guess production mostly wrapped before coronavirus hit Japan. I have no idea what will happen with the dub or Toonami's airing, though.
  18. Well at least Naruto isn't an asexual protagonist. He's still an idiot though.
  19. It's so weird that they used a canon villain in this filler.
  20. Looks like 54 yards. But by the time it gets to kilometer vs mile and kph vs mph the difference gets way larger. Anyway, that's a 164 feet! I'm not even that good with yards. That sounds like a lot! Now there is no way she survived a 164 foot fall!
  21. Scars from a fall and not an epic ninja battle? Hated exercise so his arms were weak LOL. Could you really be THAT weak though? And what about adrenaline in times of crisis we always hear about? Like people moving cars off of people?
  22. 50 meters... sorry I don't speak your language.
  23. Were they remarking on Naruto's penis size?
  24. I don't get the idea of pricing it so high. They would have more sales from selling more copies at a lower price than a few copies at a high price. I guess Aniplex must be using the Japanese pricing model for their releases. Hmm from what I understand original creators would get royalties from those sales. And the Japanese companies did try to combat piracy in the past with that website and initiative they started a few years ago. Can't remember what it was called or if it's still going. Oda told people to read another manga if they wanted romance stories and I don't recall him getting any flak for that. It made me think of how extremely nice and diplomatic Yuji Naka and some of the Sega guys were about criticizing the original Sonic design for the movie. https://www.forbes.com/sites/olliebarder/2018/12/13/the-original-creators-behind-sonic-the-hedgehog-react-to-the-new-live-action-movie-reveal/ https://www.forbes.com/sites/olliebarder/2019/11/13/yuji-naka-gives-his-take-on-the-new-sonic-the-hedgehog-movie-redesign/ That said, according to people following the current SAO arc in the novels - So it seems he meant what he said. Anyway I think the way the women have been dealt with isn't nearly as bad as some have said. But more screen time and adventures won't hurt.
