Oh okay. Yeah I could see that happening. Yeah hopefully not Pierott lol. I didn't read the manga from the beginning either. A girl on the old boards I introduced the show to was watching through the series with me, and she wanted to keep going past where the dub had stopped, at 167 at the time (and skipping filler of course.) So we watched ahead in Japanese and then when we ran out of episodes, we started reading the manga. I think the first chapters I read were the fight against Barragan? I'd have to go back and look at the timeline of where things were in the dub, Japanese release of the anime, and manga at the time. Pretty out of character for me at the time, because before then I would always wait for the dub of stuff! But, I bought the manga volume for when Aizen is revealed as the bad guy. I also went back and read and skimmed a few other earlier chapters. The art wasn't much more elaborate back then, either. That big shot where we see the entire Seireitei overhead when Ichigo and co. first arrive there from the sky isn't even in the manga. I'm not sure when the interview was done, and can't find it right now, but Kubo said he has assistants, but he draws all the characters and explosions. In another interview (possible spoilers in interview,) he said he leaves out backgrounds because - Jo Kaps: "Many readers are wondering why you tend to draw minimalistic to no backgrounds and focus on the characters instead." Kubo: "Backgrounds distract the reader from what's going on inside the character. Whenever I leave backgrounds out, this is to allow my readers to see the heart of the character." I do know that in some of the chapters for the final arc, had confusing art for the fights at times. In fact, there were some panels where I really did not know what I was looking at. So the anime can definitely improve on the manga in the story AND art department. Oh, look at this treasure trove I just found - Here Kubo talks about backgrounds more, I believe in an older interview. Looks like a rough translation though. K: Didn't Morita san just mentioned "Connection to one another and a story is born."(*3), I think it was marvelously well-said. I think when I am drawing, I wasn't just clarifying the lines, but illustrating the "air". Therefore, no matter in drawing or writing,neither words nor lines, but singularly illustrating the "air". I always have this feeling of bringing the "air" into the paper when drawing. How to phrase it, every panel should have a background. Backgrounds are drawn to remind the reader where is the characters situated. However, I feel that it was not that important. In this manner, at the very panel when a character is exceptionally distinctive, I don't feel like filling the background at all. In BLEACH, when a new character debuts, the background is actually white.(*4) The reason is I want the readers to savor the atmosphere of one's surrounding through the characters themselves. I believe that the world coexists with the characters and shaped, so I would hold this belief of "I want to shape this world" and pen it down. (*4) The White Background The scene which Aizen is appeared alive. It was just like what Sensei has mentioned that the background is white, but nothing is drawn behind the character. Though I suppose it is possible Kubo drew the backgrounds less and less in later years, regardless of his stated style and intent reasons, due to his health. I saw a comment from someone on the site where I first saw this news posted when it ended up in my Google News feed, SiliconEra, I think it was, that all those manuscripts that Kubo had done ahead of time on his own time were the entire series, and Burn the Witch was intended to be a shorter series. I have no idea if that's true though. But yeah if that's not it and Kubo will have to start making new chapters eventually, the Oda schedule is an option.

I think this is the Erina screenshot I was looking for haha. And here's the other one haha. I had to take this screenshot myself! It's a pain to find screenshots these days! The only site I could find that had any was a tumblr page that wants you to download giant zip files full of screenshots! I didn't feel like going on the computer so I ended up just watching the episode on Crunchyroll on my phone. And I gotta' say, hearing Erina's Japanese voice, there was no reason to give her the valley girl voice in the dub! You can do snooty without going there! Oh, and the head chef called Erina a little bitch in his internal monologue!
