  1. In the movie he got laid out by a surprise cheap shot by Frieza. Does this show hate Gohan or what?
  2. You guys really need to see Resurrection F if you haven't. This is shit compared what we got there.
  3. Ok big changes here. Piccolo fought the red guy. Purple guy was killed by Frieza at the beginning of the movie. Gohan got hit by Frieza, not the purple guy. So basically, Super makes Gohan look 100 times worse here.
  4. In the movie Tien also tells Yamcha to stay behind, but at least there's an explanation for Buu's absence here. Yeah pretty sure none of this stuff with Krillin having issues fighting happened. How much more can Gohan be downgraded? I thought those of mixed Saiyan heritage were supposed to have more potential than pure Saiyans, unless I just imagined that. Either way it doesn't matter if you slack off with your training! Holy crap this fighting sucks horribly compared to the movie.
  5. Oh. Well the titles and stuff makes it confusing. Can't say I make a point to watch much anime comedy, as the comedy in anime can be very hit or miss. But, if the show is making fun of otakus as opposed to pandering to them, like it seems to be doing, I might check it out.
  6. Cool, I probably won't use it, though. I make a point to only post during commercials, so I don't miss anything in the shows. I wouldn't have time to also comment in a chat room.
  7. Basically, stay out of Babbling Rants, and you're good.
  8. But he didn't threaten anybody, and he's not in the Toonami/Anime sections.
  9. He was talking about the chat rooms people forgot about, not the boards.
  10. The one you linked? Alright, just watched it. While I agree that the mangaka workload and schedule is ridiculous, having no place in modern society, and I appreciate him shining a spotlight on Kubo's issues with his editors and the magazine, I don't agree with a lot of the other stuff he said. Sure, some plot points and character archetypes might be repetitive (I believe the latter was deliberate as Kubo would often match-up characters with similar or opposite personalities and beliefs in fights), but I don't agree with the world being hollow or that Kubo "stopped giving it his all." I really enjoy the lore and world of Bleach. It's got some really interesting and creative stuff in there. For example, the Soul Society combines feudal Japan with ghoulish stuff like out of Beetlejuice. Then he brings up examples. Naruto's "world" is a bunch of villages that look identical with rare exception, and forests. The story has been repeating the same Sasuke bullshit, multiple characters being "just like Naruto", among other things, for a while now. So if we want to blame repetitiveness, and a decline in quality for loss in popularity, how do you explain Naruto? Would also like to mention that Bleach was still selling really well, even if it wasn't as much as it once was, and I feel there's a whole lot of BS to that supposed "ranking" thing. One Piece has an interesting world and deep world, yes, but it's not repetitive? There's nothing formulaic about its story arcs? Really? I mean, I enjoy One Piece, but I'm not going to pretend there isn't a very noticeable pattern there. Luffy, among others, hasn't really changed much as the story has progressed, but I don't feel that characters need to change to be enjoyable or interesting. Not all people change in real life, after all. I agree with him on Ichigo to an extent, though. I like him enough, don't hate him or anything, but I can only count one person that I'm aware of in my experience with the fandom that considers him their favorite character. Not a good sign. I also agree that the art was getting confusing in some of those pages in the last arc.
  11. Hahaha, Rukia and Ichigo both had their own harems as the series went along, and I'm sure they weren't the only ones. Why does Ichigo have to pick one?! Hell, how do we know Ichigo, Orihime, Rukia, and Renji aren't having four-ways while Yuzu watches from the Rukia Closet? Kubo never said those relationships were monogamous! Imagining this helps salvage the ending.
  12. Hum, well that doesn't sound good. Certainly not at all like the quality of story and pacing in the first season. I'll have to see what it's like for myself, whenever I get around to reading the manga or whenever the next season comes out, whichever comes first.
  13. OwlChemist81[/member] what the fuck are you doing?
  14. It doesn't feel like much has happened.
  15. Death Note was a good show but not really action, so not sure why it was on Adult Swim Action. So yeah Stein's Gate wouldn't be a good idea. Hesitant to watch that though because there seems to be endless series in that semicolon franchise and I don't know how they all fit together. It sure sounds dumb as hell. But if it doesn't take itself seriously and try to pander to otakus and is actually funny than maybe there's some merit there.
  16. Oh yeah. I suppose I should be able to relate to that.
  17. Well, looking at the list, it seems the top animes are all either Attack on Titan or Boruto, so probably not too much to be concerned with. I live in a small suburban community. I don't care for all the big cities with all the chaos and busy-ness, and random crazies, hipsters, hobos, hippies, etc. I mean, hell, look at somebody the wrong way and you might jumped! But I don't want to live in the middle of nowhere, either. I lived in south Texas until kindergarten and moved to central Texas for first grade and have lived here since. I dread having to go back there to visit relatives. South Texas is depressing and boring as hell. It's a fucking backwater, nothing there. You feel like you're going back in time, not in a good way. And Corpus Christi is a rundown shithole, basically a mini-Detroit of the south. Even when I lived a few years out of town up here it was annoying. You have to drive into town to do anything. And even then, when we lived in town, we'd have to go to a larger town or city nearby for other stuff. I'm glad the small city I'm living in now has grown large enough to have actual stuff and not have to go somewhere else to do things. I mean, yeah, I love nature, but I don't want to live in it. Heh, got on a bit of a rant there. But I see what you mean. Hicks in and of themselves aren't necessarily bad (though they seem to have bad taste in anime ), but I don't want to live in the middle of nowhere. There's also the fact I don't drive so I appreciate being able to walk or ride a bike anywhere I need to go and everything isn't too far away from me where I live. Still, I just can't get how there's still a demand for Naruto. It's been shit longer than it's been good, at this point. And even if Boruto itself might not be bad, it still feels tainted to me. I dunno'. I mean, why give a shit about the next generation of Naruto characters when the original characters' story has been ruined?
  18. Exactly. As long as the thing I like can continue to air, I don't care what ratings it gets. Obviously, it'd be nicer if more people shared in watching something I like, but I'm not going to lose sleep over being part of a comparatively small audience. If Toonami gets canceled that'd be pretty catastrophic for me. I've been talking about the ASA/Toonami block online since 03. And yeah it's a good way of watching anime. Better than just going into the woods for yourself and trying to pick something to watch. Toonami helps bridge that gap. I don't think these latest developments put the block in any existential danger right this minute, but they sure as hell aren't good. And again, I want a new show to watch at the top of the block, not a rerun. So if the ratings for a rerun do bad, or a show I don't like that I believe shouldn't have been picked up, then I'll use that to back up my argument. Believe it or not there was for some reason some pervasive demand on the boards years ago that Toonami air Steins Gate, even though it's not an action show from what I have heard and wouldn't work for Toonami. Ping Pong was well liked but nobody really recommended it for Toonami. I just looked up the last show. Oh lord.
  19. I tend to agree a lot with this guy's take on things. Still not sure if the real/main reason was Kubo's health or the magazine axing it, but fuck Jump regardless. Unfortunate about those notes getting lost though. I'm sure it's not the only mangaka that's happened to, though. Shit happens.
  20. Those omakes, along with similarly toned filler episodes, are based on bonus segments from the manga, though, so I wouldn't really call this a different version of the characters. For example, there have been similar humorous moments with Byakuya in the main series. Maybe different circumstances or events, etc. The omakes are a glimpse of their daily lives, so the characters aren't going to act the same as they would in the heat of battle, etc. I also like the added lore and world building contained in them. I binged all these omakes some time ago. They're pretty great.
  21. Who give a fuck about pairings? The manga was mostly loveless, with these couples being barely, if at all, built up over the course of it. They go from not even holding hands to having babies at the end. The romance happens during a timeskip. It's like placing two action figures beside each other. Kubo would always say that he doesn't do romances because he felt there were better and more interesting things he could do with the characters. Then he breaks his rule at the end and has the romance happen off-screen to effectively have his cake and eat it too. I care more about the development and accomplishments of the characters themselves. I think Rukia did pretty well for herself and ended up in a good place by the end of the series. Orihime on the other hand got unfortunately shafted in a lot of ways. Remember that whole thing of her rejecting the Hogyoku and nothing ever coming of it? It would have been nice if she got more to do. I mean, if didn't have the heart of a fighter and wasn't suited for it, fine, but I still felt like she didn't do enough, even in a non-fighting role.
  22. That's not the only things that were out of control. Grimmjow was originally meant to die fairly quickly (a one fight villain, I imagine), but his role was extended due to his popularity. Kubo wanted to kill off some good guys in the Fake Karakura Town Arc but was stopped because editors thought it would hurt sales. They rushed him to end the Substitute Arc and move on to Soul Society because they felt it was too similar to Yu Yu Hakusho. Regardless of that, Substitute Arc is great and shouldn't have been able to go as long as Kubo wanted. And there's plenty of other examples. Kubo probably had more freedom with the last arc because the series was winding down at that point, and I'm thankful for many of the things he got to do with that arc.
  23. I loved Bleach since the beginning and always have. It's got one of the best first episodes of any long running Shonen and draws you in right off the bat. One of my favorite series, for sure. Not going to say it was a perfect series or that the quality was consistent, but I definitely don't agree with all the people that say it took a nosedive after the Soul Society Arc or that it should have ended there, etc. Yes, The Arc Which Shall Not Be Named was so bad that I blocked most of it from my memory, but I'll stand by most of the canon material any day. Lots of great and epic moments come after the Soul Society Arc, and lots of characters get their due and time in the spotlight. I was loyal up to the end and I anxiously hope a new anime to cover the final arc comes to pass.
  24. It's because Frieza was a natural prodigy and never needed to train. He was just naturally that skilled and powerful. So maybe that's why it only takes 4 months for him level up that much?
