I feel that jerking off and shitting in public is a disregard for convention, but the story that you remembered correctly is one of materialism.

You have to post the acres of land you have. You know what they say about a man with lots of acreage.....Lots...of corn I guess.

I ate pills and water for breakfast. Am hungry but probably just going to wait till dinner to eat. Less so that I need to ration more so that I don't like doing dishes.

I'd say there are some parallels, but yes Rick is far too corrupt and materialistic to be a direct Diogenes. Old Cynics were rejecting convention as it only led to corruption and complicated the simplicity of nature and minimalism. Rick only really fits into part of that as he has not respect for bureaucracy similar to Diogenes' disrespect for it and will often do things a "wrong" way to spite conventional method. I believe there was a story where Diogenes was using his hand to cup liquid to drink , but was told that he would need to drink form a cup and was handed one, so he threw his cup away and began lapping up liquid like a dog. He didn't "need" to do things the way that others would find conventional, so long as his method worked and din't overly complicate things then it was the correct real conventional method, while what others viewed as conventional was the preserve version. As for pessimism the older term for it is closer to what we would consider indifference and apathy when used by the Greeks in BCE times. By the 16th century is more how we commonly know it came into being as it was used to describe people who rejected the idea of the assistance of good nature or altruism. Today it's more the glass half empty half full approach. Someone who just always looks at the negative in anything positive being done. I do fall into this more often than I should and will be trying harder to break myself of it hopefully. It is very difficult though when your mind instantly sees things as one way while it's the last thing that would cross others minds. There is often hypocrisy on both sides, but I should focus more on if intentions were good at heart and if ends justify the means. It's possible that my nearly 5 months of isolation and only hearing negativity on the news haven't done me any favors in regards to socializing. In my case it's difficult to justify leaving home for anything that isn't essential at this time, and may have redirected my annoyance. A the same time others in that thread were dragging out what should have been over in a few posts.

You mean diogenes esque? As he's like diogenes who I brought up in your thread, which is someone who doesn't care and acts in a manner which opposes conventional means.

Demon Slayer movie to hit US and Canadian theaters
HardcoreHunter replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Demon Slayer was a pretty big let down for me. Probably not going to see this since funi doesn't throw the movies on their stream site and I would never pay money to watch these. I liked the MHA films and even then it was painful paying theater prices to watch. -
The point was that kids are watching this ultra violence and sexual shows and they aren't out doing them. They aren't simply apathetic when it happens in real life or around them like you claim. You have the same mind set as parents in the 80s saying Arnold Schwarzenegger was making kids violent. Except now it's not just kids but also adults being affected by this kind of media. So you really missed the point there.

I mean if you don't want to see it in film then I'd just say that it's not for you, stick to the book. Wouldn't be heroes killing kids, just Antagonistic Protagonists. I mean if you can think of a way to make child murder look admirable I'd love to hear it. Though if I'm doing a genocide run in a game, nothing annoys me more than kids who can't die. If I'm going hero in a game, it actually adds some weight to my choices knowing that any character even kids could die. I think that is also something that has gone missing from Horror films. Old horror films kids could die. Also dogs, you never see dogs die in horror films anymore either. It helps you get invested in the story. Now if a kid is in a horror movie, I'm just like; well nothing bad is going to happen to them. Same goes for games, but anime subverts that in some series. I mean would Elfen Lied have had the same impact without those kids beating a dog to death then being torn apart by invisible vector arms? Death draws people into the story especially when you realize nobody is truly safe. I'm pretty sure kids and teens aren't going to get their desensitized by games or anime. When I was 4 one of my favorite films was Leprechaun, I thought it was the funniest shit. In the same way kids in the 00s would watch Shrek I would watch Leprechaun. Also Freddy Kruger, we had fucking toys of a burnt pedophile that would kill people in their dreams. Nobody made a knife glove and went out killing kids. Couple of years ago I was at a BBQ party and there were a few kids there. I was flipping around tv channels with nothing on, and asked them what they liked watching. They weren't interested in cartoons at all, don't really blame them for what CN had been passing for content. Though what they were really into was Game of Thrones and Walking Dead. One show about killing zombies an people getting their faces smashed in with bats. Other has Incest, rape, murder, etc. I just don't see anime being the trigger that would set this generation off anymore than it set off our generation. I would be thankful if kids could learn to shrug shit off. I don't think anyone was ever that desensitized though by heroes killing people. Batman used to use a gun and murder his villains. Think of all the 80s heroes that would just murder people. Nobody was brain dead enough to be so desensitized that stuff happening in real life didn't affect them. The kids hounding other kids to kill themselves is nothing new, that shit dates back to at least the 30s if not longer. The difference now is that social media plays a big part in kids lives so they don't get an escape, and parents need to become aware of their childs social media. Some of the stories I heard from my parents were fucking horrible. I even told them that they were fucked up and I wouldn't have been friends with either of them if we grew up in the same time. My one uncle pretty much told me that him and some friends got some retard killed which started a school bus rule. It was like -15 degrees, school was canceled but they tricked this retarded kid into staying out in the cold which was even colder with the windchill, and wait for the bus. Kid was crying and wanted to go home but they told him to keep waiting or they'd tell that he was skipping school. Got frostbite ended up dying from complications from it. School put in a rule that if it's under 30 degrees and the bus is 20 mins late that school is canceled. I mean what media would have influenced that. They didn't even have a TV at the time, or even a fridge my dad and uncles were still using ice boxes. Media doesn't waste their money to have influence. If that were the case then the suicide shows would just be dedicated towards killing their fanbase. They're not big tobacco. They make entertainment and merchandise. Subliminal messages in films are a character drinking a coke and then you thinking that you can go for a coke right about now. I don't know how many people watch an anime that has a loli character in it and say man I could really go for fucking a kid right about now; or someone kills a kid in a movie and makes people think that they'll be like their hero Pennywise the dancing clown. Nobody watched Gacy and thought that dressing up as a clown raping young men and hiding their bodies under the house was going to be their life's passion. It's not easy when you're japan. The culture and media is filled with spirituality. Also the Chinese hold them to a more strict guideline as they still blame them over WWII. China started their no ghost policy in the late 90s. That's why the 2017 film was banned, but they still had the ones done in the late 80s and early 90s. Films like Crimson Peak were also banned for having ghosts. Here's a list of some of the anime/manga they banned a few years ago. Kellen goff is sick and tired of voicing villains
HardcoreHunter replied to CountFrylock's topic in Anime & Manga
I mean the one guy he voiced in Fire Force felt like it could have been a protagonist voice. It was a villein though it at least showed some range. He's def got some imbalance going on, but also really being an emo brat. "you don't know what it's like". It's like Dude anyone can give a line read, not everyone goes method and becomes a psycho from it. There are probably people who got stepped over for those parts and would have been much more grateful for the role and the paycheck. Though they were giving it to a newbie. Funimation probably doesn't want the bad press right before their con. I wouldn't be surprised if Funimation blacklists him over it. They have like 50+ active voice actors on call with dozens of shows and characters under their belts and the years and relationships put in. Then you have then newbie with 11 shows mostly 1-2 episode characters that is demanding things go his way. This is the kinda crap you complain to your agent and see what they can do, not go on social media and put your Employer on blast. -
Yeah Im not a car guy. Though We did have towncars, we also called it the boat growing up. My dad for the longest time was against cars with computers in them because he couldn't fix them himself. My extent of car fixing is I can change tires, oil, and windshield wipers, and how to hold a flashlight and get yelled at. After that I have a cousin who a mechanic for that.

are they Lincoln town cars? So some times in the 80s. Did they just not want to change their sign? The company rebranded like 22 years before 1980.
