Netflix releases first visuals of their live action Cowboy Bebop
Sketch replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
This show can actually be hilarious. Episode 7 had me rolling when they were juxtaposing Jet watching his daughter's recital and Spike fighting a bunch of goons right outside the room. At it's best when it's not trying to adapt scenes from the anime the Bebop crew has great chemistry. But it also had so many absolutely terrible dialogue exchanges and anything involving Vicious and Julia is boring, overly campy and painful to watch. These are not the characters from the anime, especially in Faye's case. Jet is the closest but they had to go and make him a divorced guy with a kid so there's all this family drama. Shakir is honestly a fantastic Jet but they don't give him good enough material to show it. Expanding on Vicious and Julia's storyline was a huge mistake and made only worse by the way Vicious doesn't feel threatening at all. He's quite frankly a little bitch boy. They left so much out yet picked some baffling episodes to adapt and then changed them in ways that usually made them even more nonsensical. But I will give them credit for one thing. They came up with a way for Faye to receive the video tape (VHS not Beta) without the tremendous leaps in logic the anime expected you to believe. The tape is all that Faye had when she was put on ice. That totally makes sense and doesn't purport that space UPS is incredible at tracking people down after decades but Faye had no other way to learn of her past. It's a shame Jet just had a VHS player on the Bebop so there's no hijinks of tracking one down but overall it is a better choice and when Faye watches the tape I actually felt something. It was an astonishingly sweet moment in a show that otherwise couldn't manage a sentimental or dramatic scene to save its life. It doesn't make up for how un-Bebop the whole show is but I'll give it that much. All and all it's not a terrible sci-fi romp when it's not taking itself seriously. But it tremendously lacks chill and greatly misses the point of Bebop. It's fine but it is not Cowboy Bebop. The crew would have been much better off adapting Outlaw Star (lol Firefly already exists) or Space Dandy. But I actually think One Piece might turn out watchable. -
I'm pretty sure they either never lost the rights OR they did renew it a while ago. Netflix never had it exclusively. I'm here for TOM ribbing on Netflix though, that would be classic TOM. So I wasn't expecting new shows for 1/1 but it's pretty obvious that if YashaHime episode 24 aired like intended then 1/1 would have just been Black Lotus and a Bebop marathon (maybe finishing with DBS, who knows?) This Christmas schedule though? It's just laughable how much they're marathoning Black Lotus. Did they seriously have no other options? Can't do a marathon of MHA? We KNOW they can rerun Shippuden episodes and it's never gotten a marathon. I'd even take a DBS marathon over even more Black Lotus reruns. They are bound and determined to make their regular viewers sick of that show. So they had better bring it on 1/8/2021 and preferably announce the shows for those before Christmas.

Netflix isn’t getting the dub before FUNimation and Aniplex didn’t let them take the simulcast but they can easily outbid Toonami for the 2nd run rights. But until the dub is announced for FUNimation’s service, it’s still possible Toonami could get first dibs on the dub if they have first right to refusal and they can afford it.

Should toonami be airing cartoons from around the world?
Sketch replied to CountFrylock's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
LASTMAN freak'n rules I'm all for Toonami airing animated series from other countries. LINK CLICK is a banger and I hope FUNimation will dub it. -
They can probably marathon MHA, Food Wars or YashaHime but genLOCK is an interesting option. How about a Titan marathon though? They’d have to extend the lineup a lot to fit all 16 episodes in but maybe they could do the last 7 or 8.

what could toonami be like In January?

AEW airing before Toonami? Now that might be a winner. -

I had a feeling but honestly I forgot about Mittypip so it hasn't crossed my mind they could be the same person in quite a while. -

Last time I checked, Toonami France is a channel. They have an Adult Swim block on a Toonami channel. What kind of alternate universe are they living in? -

That's never gonna happen. Their sole purpose on that board is to rain on any potential parade. But if they some how managed to start the year with six shows in premieres then they might actually compliment Toonami for once before going back to their usual routine of doom posting. My current expectations (which I think are pretty reasonable) are that they will start two shows by January 8th. I have almost zero hope they will run a regular lineup on January 1st unless they double up multiple shows or start a 4th rerun that night (and that means replacing Dr. Stone with another rerun as well). I don't think they'll exceed 3 reruns but they might temporarily have 4 while they wait for Attack on Titan. -
Given the length of the time slot, Blade Runner 2049 probably piqued around 0.09 maybe even 0.10 but dropped half those viewers by the end. Kind of wonder if it would have done better on Saturday. I get the feeling the Black Lotus marathon on Friday December 10th will sink to five digits by the end. We'll see how The Hills and the Smiths boost Black Lotus on Saturday but it's still a holiday weekend so we'll see.

I said they have the streaming rights not the TV rights, or so it would seem. They are streaming the HD version with the piss poor cut of Tank. -
december 10th adultswim will air another BRBL marathon
Sketch replied to CountFrylock's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
No we didn't but they are absolutely desperate to get people to watch Black Lotus. -
Blade Runner: Black Lotus gets a marathon on December 4
Sketch replied to Blatch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Yeah about that. Based on DeMarco's tweets touting the years that Adult Swim was airing it, it would seem that Bebop being on the AS website doesn't necessarily mean they have the TV rights still. It's apparently a different deal. Granted, he might be misinformed but it wouldn't be the first time they had a show on their website that they seemingly could not air on the block. -

Easy money one of those shows is Demon Slayer season 2 and they thought a dub would be ready by now. Beyond that though? Business bullshit rears its ugly head again it would seem. It's reassuring that stuff IS coming because heck if the block doesn't look like its got a foot in the grave. I totally believed they simply ran out of budget or had to conserve some for the start of 2022 but if that isn't the case then maybe Toonami will be able to get back to six premieres once Attack on Titan returns early in 2022. I don't even mind if they drop to 5 premieres and could honestly stomach just 4 if two of the slots rotated shows every 3 months or so but I don't think they have intentions of scaling back that much and this lull isn't a sign that they will be losing time slots in 2022. I would sure appreciate it if they would announce some shows that are coming but I suppose they can't do that until they deal with whatever is holding those shows back. But seriously it would really help morale if they would drop an announcement for an upcoming show tomorrow or Friday, they aren't strangers to making announcements on Facebook on or right after a holiday. -
Blade Runner: Black Lotus gets a marathon on December 4
Sketch replied to Blatch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
If they’re doing the first obligatory Black Lotus Saturday night marathon on December 4th then what the fuck are they even doing the rest of the month? At this point it had better be movies because three more weeks of rerun marathons would be disgusting. Holy shit Toonami you guys are acting like you want to be canceled. -
Yashahime airs two episodes back to back on November 27th

Nah they’ll double up Shippuden before they triple YashaHime. -
Special edition of Toonami to air on Friday, November 26th
Sketch replied to 3ngag3's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
And if you're wondering what Adult Swim will be airing before and after Toonami's Blade Runner block on Black Friday... 09:00 PM - King of the Hill 09:30 PM - King of the Hill 10:00 PM - Bob's Burgers 10:30 PM - Bob's Burgers 11:00 PM - Blade Runner: Black Out 2022 11:15 PM - Blade Runner 2049 03:00 AM - Blade Runner: Black Lotus #01 03:30 AM - Blade Runner: Black Lotus #02 04:00 AM - Blade Runner: Black Lotus #03 04:30 AM - King of the Hill Encore 05:00 AM - Bob's Burgers Encore 05:30 AM - Bob's Burgers Encore Because nothing says cyber-punk like the Belchers and the Hills 😆 Yes, Adult Swim got King of the Hill back and it will be replacing both the 9pm and 4am hours of Naruto Shippuden on Saturdays and the 5am hour of Samurai Jack. Toonami's lead-out will be 2 hours of everyone's favorite anime: Kingu o Buzuhiru and the lead in will be Kingu o Buzuhiru followed by 2 hours of Amerika no Otousan. Not a Rikku to Moruti in sight. -
Yashahime airs two episodes back to back on November 27th
Sketch replied to CountFrylock's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
If they start a new show (or two) on December 4th then I think they'll run the regular lineup for 3 weeks in December but if they have to stall until January then they're probably going to take December 18th off. They are going to run out of YashaHime season 1 episodes if they keep double stripping it and if they have absolutely nothing... they either have to throw on another rerun or start doubling up Shippuden on December 4th. If they don't run the regular lineup on December 18th they might still start the night with a new Black Lotus. I've been thinking they might promote The Matrix: Resurrections by airing The Animatrix or maybe even one or more of the live-action films since Blade Runner 2049 is setting that precedent. They could potentially do that on a Friday though, if WarnerMedia wants them to shill for that. Jessica Henwick the actress of Elle is in The Matrix: Resurrections, so they might tie that into an event with an exclusive interview or preview. They could of course do a clip or interview during a regular Toonami block rather than during a movie night but either way I would be a bit surprised if they don't use that connection to cross-promote both. -
Yashahime airs two episodes back to back on November 27th
Sketch replied to CountFrylock's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
It's not really an update because it's the same schedule as November 20th but I'll tell the social media folks that it would be a good idea to call attention to it. -
Yashahime airs two episodes back to back on November 27th
Sketch replied to CountFrylock's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Pretty sure plan A was to run the movie on that night but for whatever reason they changed their minds and decided they should finish Food Wars and run the regular lineup. It’s not even a change from the November 20th lineup so I don’t expect there to be a Facebook post about this. -
It was the highest rated rerun on Adult Swim for the 18-49 demographic anyway, there were some episodes of R&M and American Dad that did better in total viewers. Thanks for finding that chart, it's quite interesting. Only 39 reruns the entire week topped 0.20 with 18-49, only 11 topped 0.29 and only 1 topped 0.37 proving Yellowstone as an outlier at 0.60 18-49. There is no doubt that cable television is struggling beyond news programs and some live sports. The best rated reruns on Adult Swim in the 10-12am time frame aren't even hitting 400,000 anymore, that's just yikes. It does however make Toonami look decent by comparison. Despite those low numbers Adult Swim still got 20 reruns into the top 200 so that's 10%. They were all Rick & Morty and American Dad episodes, oddly not a Bob's Burgers in sight. Bob must be having a hard time in the 9pm hour but it did well in the 8pm hour on Sunday on FXX. The Big Bang Theory is decimating Adult Swim in total viewers but is just a bit above the best Rick & Morty episodes with 18-49. The best rated Family Guy episodes on FXX and Freeform are around 0.15 18-49 and Bob's Burgers managed to beat Family Guy on FXX with a 0.16 on a Sunday at 8pm.
