so Jason Demarco is the head of Mattress Firm? honestly the weirdest part is on reddit someone brought up how not that long ago demarco claimed toonami was pretty cheap to run currently and then now he says it's too expensive to operate without major cuts so something strange is going on

why does it feel like toonami going over budget is inevitable instead of just a possibility? it's like someone spends most of the funds at the casino or something and then blames it on the block it's been like 8 years since toonami returned(right?)and it still seems like the place is run like some low grade peanut gallery that doesn't know anything about business or how to make and finalize deals

could it be possible we just have a pretty dry year for the most part? i don't see toonami having the cash to just buy a bunch of new licenses for never before seen shows on the block unless they are super cheap (this isn't a case where every show costs the same amount obviously which is why i state this)

Yeah But HBOMax Wasn't a thing then And WarnerMedia wasn't as crazy about streaming services as they are now Streaming has become far more of a threat to toonami due to WarnerMedia wanting an entire pie to themselves of this whole streaming thing

seems like streaming's probably hit toonami quite hard and some speculate that warnermedia is the culprit here with them bringing the hammer down on the block

all in all...so far 2020 has not been too kind to toonami if ya ask me....and I've really noticed people on reddit doing their best to damage control the situation by saying this happens all the time and this isn't a negative for toonami

i don't mean reruns i just mean sequels/additional seasons we have many shows on the block that will return with a new season/sequel in the works

this whole situation has made me think....are we close to the point where we won't really feel like we're missing much if we stop watching toonami entirely and switch to streaming? the community vibe doesn't really matter to me if it's just discussing the same couple shows for most of the year with little to no new additions hell with fewer slots they have less of a reason to try something new when they could revisit something fans already know so doubts Konosuba or darwin's game will air

Yeah but SAO isn't exactly a show that will make up for not having another new addition to the block until several months from now.... we already have too many shows that have sequel/additional seasons in the works so fewer slots means the block's quite predictable now and we can all probably guess what will be on it sooner or later due to that

if i had to take a guess they probably see this as good for the fans because the block will continue to exist this way without fear of going over budget they don't feel like the block will be stale this way and that thinking this move will make toonami feel any more stale than it has been is just an opinion not a fact

basically what one of the toonami subreddit mods told me because and i quote "This Just Makes It More affordable and sustainable" do you agree or disagree with this statement? because it seems to be the statement that people make in defense of Demarco's decisions on the block

so do i....it honestly feels like they aren't really taken seriously by WarnerMedia

let's just hope the block doesn't get stale as a result of this.....black clover naruto shippuden and food wars have three slots locked down

i don't really think A DB Run On Week Nights would help soften the blow that much honestly

none of it adds up and there's not much demarco can say to calm everyone down because in such a short amount of time the block's lost two shows and gained nothing back there's now this fear in some of us that Higher up's are starting to see toonami as a waste of resources and as such are cutting their budget drastically it's the only explanation why we'd have our rerun slots abruptly pulled....unless someone can think of a better one i don't wanna hit the panic button on this but demarco's comments on ask.fm where he stated this wasn't their decision mixed with his later tweets saying that it actually was....makes it seem like there's something bigger going on and Demarco's trying to act as Damage control with A Little Positive PR Spin on the situation
