Story Writers: Moments You're Proud Of
J.M. Matthews replied to Bouvre's topic in UEMB Member Share-Space
I don't agree with this at all. To me, writing on my word processor is the place where I am most expressive, confident, vibrant, and focused. No matter how many words I write for the day, even 2,000 or more, there's always more words, sentences, and paragraphs to be expressed. Writing is an accumulation of content and words, a collection of various literary components each day, over long amounts of time, privately and quietly. To me, writing is a mixture of both the building of and the exploration of, new literary territory and land. The words kind of just flow from my keyboard to the page, nothing frustrating or degrading about it. It's a lot less degrading than Twitter and TV, where someone's always lying to your face and putting you down on the other side of the screen, writing is way more rewarding than TV and social media, especially if you're focusing on the writing process the right way. I always write alone, never around other people, and where I might show my art to everyone, I don't show my writing to anyone, I feel less of a need or compulsion to show off when I write than when I draw. Exceptions being fiction, which I do show to some people. -
No. Just Clinical Insanity...

That seems odd to you? That's funny, that's kind of how I always post. I don't tend to edit my posts as one, so I do multi posts. Sorry if it seems odd. It's because I write so damn much. lol To summarize, it I strongly believe if you DO have the podium, soapbox, platform, spotlight, You may as well take that attention, run with it, and milk it for all its worth! You only live once...

I watched a bit of the networks. The X-Files, Riverdale (Archie Comics) I love the X-Files, it's the same show it always was, but more violent I don't know about Riverdale. I don't get why they're turning Archie into the Sopranos. If this were the early 00s, Archie would still probably be a saturday morning franime like totally spies - Code Lyoko - W.I.T.C.H. (you know, Archie's Weird Mysteries) which was animated in Canada-France, or at least I think so. It wasn't too bad like that. I miss funny Archie. But yeah, Archie was always cool to men and women.

Speaking of good Live action: It's past 8 PM Wednesday. X-File is on Fox! They're right, right though. Don't overlook the "Made in America" market. There's a reason its so flush with cash. There still are good live action dramas. Like Gotham and X-Files and into the Badlands. To name some

Action pretty much were anime made its brand and most of its money, hence there being shitloads of it and it being difficult to find more niche markets like romance and comedy. Whatever you're seeing getting airtime IS making the most raw cash. So Toonami and cable niche markets or bust.

It's not just the quality of the shows. Technically half the writers in L.A. got fired and laid off when they protested, so they had no writers to make REAL shows with for a while. 2006 - 2012 on TV is what happens when Hollywood isn't hiring or even employing or paying any good writers. Dramas get replaced with shows that don't use writes: Reality TV and "talent competitions" How about acknowledging some FUCKING WRITING TALENT??

Here's all the things you need to review for each book you publish... Cover Price (Online outlets make you charge a minimum prince to receive a royalty for copies sold) Content Manuscript formatting PDF files Uploading Pages Distribution Shipping and Billing ISBN # Publishing Name Marketing Keywords (listings in search engines and stores) Book Description Book Print format (casewrap hardcover gloss) Color vs. Black and white U.S. Trade (small) vs. U.S. Letter Hardcover (large size) Interior Print: Black and white on white Color is more expensive Each time you revise you will be forced to go through all the steps of the book production process over again Print ready file (download for review if necessary) Cover Designer (casewrap has no detachable leaflet cover) (putting price listing on back helps if your work is in brick and mortar bookstores, if its online price listing doesn't matter) Category Language (English) Copyright notice: (your author name plus publishing year) Publisher Name (optional): Edition (Reprintings, this doesn't always have to be updated)

Just be warned, publishing is no small undertaking. Despite the effort and work needed to make a good, book there's an 80% chance your book's only audience might be yourself and the few or many people, family, friends audience members who know you or know of you. A good cover and marketing on certain sites can help. But it's easier to sell through Amazon than it is through lulu, with rare exceptions. It helps to have more than one platform. There's plenty of ways to get it wrong and only a few ways to do it successfully. 10% of authors sell a decent amoung a large percentage sell zero. I was that last percentage for a while.

To be your own publisher on Lulu Amazon, you pretty much just need a name for your publisher, it lists your publisher as the publisher name you choose for yourself. I've used different company names before: Thunder-LIghtning Press, Thunder-LIghtning Publishing, J.M. Matthews Media. Streamwave Media To be honest, often the only thing you have to do to look like you're starting a company is a name alias for your studio/publisher/company And a Logo if you're going to run a website or app, a logo image, which can also be inexpensive depending on how you go about it. Logos take some graphic design abilities.

Sure, I'd be happy to mentor people with Lulu. I've don't recall Lulu charging me for ISBN. Lulu lets you function as your own publisher for free. ISBNs are really just important if they're carrying your book in brick and mortar stores like Barnes and Noble and Books-A-Million. An ISBN is a non-object if you're selling ebooks. It really depends on where you want your sales to be. You don't necessarily have to pay just to get an ISBN listed on your book. They'll put it on anyway. And if it says you do it could just be saying that. All my Journal Volumes have ISBNs on them and I never had to pay up front. It will explain more about how you get ISBNs if you have an account on the site. Feel free to send me a link to the page your reading about ISBN if you want me to see what you're talking about.

Well, I"m feeling better now, I think it was just a mood swing from my bipolar. It happens. -
Don't hate on her just because she's a genius who happens to be female. Just because she was a woman doesn't mean she couldn't be a genius. Are you guys going to go after Salman Rushdie next for not endorsing Islam just because he's Arab?

Well, I'd like to, sometimes I do, but my neighborhood is not the safest. It's got bullies and drug dealers lurking about the streets. Kind of a ghetto these days. -

That kind of ended up my lot in life, being forced to live with my least favorite family members, for long periods of time. But maybe, just maybe with some luck, that could be ending. I have just one interview next week until I pass and can start moving my stuff in to the empty apartment. -

How do I hate thee. Let me count the ways They keep violating my Wi-Fi bounaries. Just because they live in the same house, they think they're entitled to know everything I do in private. They can't go one day without screaming and shouting at each other for dozens of minutes on end, if not hours on end They're taken over my dad's house (where I've been) They like to throw their weight around. But yeah, mostly being forced to listen to all their shouting and screaming all day and evening, EVERY dfay. They'd destructive, mean, domineering, and pushy, to the extreme. Not only am I constantly reminded by their presence alone that I never got married and had kids like my adoptive brother did, i have to deal with his horrible family every day of my life. I've been wanting to leave these people in the dust for a LONG Time. They're loud, obnoxious, sociopathic, disruptive, destructive, mean, and rude. Well, that and the mom and dad are just downright bigoted religiously-inspired delusional unmotivated psychopaths. Worst roommates in the WORLD! -

I use offline apps. Do you mean comps in general? OR just social media? I'm also moving because it's too stressful living with other people. -

Yeah, these changes have a lot of influence over my life. My career, my network, my finances, my lifestyle. I'll have a lot more freedom, but I'll be responsible for a lot of stuff. I feel like I have more responsibility in my actions, and that's not normally the case.., -

It's all the stress and pressure of doing important things that could bring about a lot of change, in my life, in my career, in the industry, in world publishing. There's never really a point where you can smugly wag your finger at the world around you. Is stress depressing? Does stress cause depression? I don't know, honestly, I feel like the American publishing industry burnt me so bad that I have no choice but to publish work overseas. I get a much better more positive vibe from Europe. I just feel like my literary work doesn't even fit in anywhere with American Publishing, well anymore anyway. If nothing else, at least my anxiety is justified in some way. It's not the success that's the problem. It's if I fail that's the problem, -

It's not easy. It's just, it's kind of a big deal, my innovation finally gets showcased, I'm one of the first writers to ever publish in that non-Japanese country who isn't just some modern classic comic book auteur's work being reprinted, like a Frank Miller, Bill Watterson, or Todd McFarlane (they're all pretty big in that market). It's just, it could open up a whole new publishing industry, but being a pioneer of the industry, I have to be on my best behavior, because I'm the pioneer who's setting the example. It's kind of like being an explorer, but with publishing overseas.
