https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/end-of-television-streaming-shows-deals-1236133596/ I think we all knew this was going to happen, but now that sports have migrated to streaming, the last true value add for linear television is gone. Which is terrible news for a once cutting edge alternative animation block

https://archive.is/2025.01.31-193603/https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/31/magazine/invasive-crabs-new-england.html Most invasive species have the problem of a lack of natural predators. This one, if people are wiling to put in the work, could have an easy natural predator in human fishermen and sea otters.

Actually the idea is one of those non-starters to show Russia’s hypocrisy. Exchanging territory Ukraine has incurred into for captured Russian territory that blows up the “We’re helping the natives” narrative.

While no one is really bullish on the music channel airing TNA to have a successful anime block (and apparently canceling New Japan Pro Wrestling coverage to air it), it is once again a prime example of DeMarco ain’t having no damn money. He can’t snap his fingers and suddenly this appears -
-
No one must dare contradict Dear Leader. When he’s dead, a lot of his actions will be undone purely for pragmatic purposes.
-
That’s probably how he always looks without the cover up.
-
One could argue DeMarco had to make more original materials, but the quality of such has been a complete disaster.
-
I'm honestly curious if DeMarco seemingly burned these bridges, or if it's a case of Crunchyroll not wanting to work with their former owners for whatever reason.

AXS doesn't have the biggest reach, right? I mean, this block is following TNA Impact, which these days is pretty happily in its niche of being a farm league for the WWE (and they even have signed a talent-sharing agreement, primarily to get TNA wrestlers on NXT so those guys can work with more experienced wrestlers). Still, the fact that this block on this music channel got MHA is just more proof of how cooked Toonami is.

NYC Mayor Eric Adams has been indicted for federal crimes
Jman replied to matrixman124's topic in Current Events
In probably unrelated news, Cuomo is allegedly up in polls over Adams by 23 percentage points as the incumbent pigshit is historically unpopular. https://emersoncollegepolling.com/new-york-city-mayoral-poll-cuomo-leads-primary-adams-faces-low-support-amid-high-unfavorability/ -
Let’s advertising a sports betting platform on your phone during every single sporting event! I see no reason how that goes horribly wrong!

What did you have for dinner? NOT a discussion thread.

Leg of lamb, mashed potatoes, and salad. -
Oof. It’s clear Toonami is a very very low priority.

Experiment to re-freeze Arctic shows promising early results
Jman replied to Jman's topic in Current Events
Our current technology would take forever, to say nothing of not doing anything. It’s why COF-999 and its ilk are so exciting if they can be scaled. Its inventor pointed out with the right scale…it could all be gone in less than a decade. But we need to scale it and have the will to implement it. -
Experiment to re-freeze Arctic shows promising early results

I think the worst thing at this point is paralyzing indecision. The will to wean off fossil fuels because some dickhead with a cowboy hat or a sheik can’t buy a new sports car or pickup truck. The ability to clone our food with shit like cultured meat because some bitch ranch owner makes more taking up endless space with cows. Indecision kills. I’m not saying it’s perfect, yet the alternative is things getting worse and worse because no one wants to do anything, when we potentially fix it. Why should humanity have to bear that cross of “No take-backs!”? People are fucking stupid, but everyone’s saying if we don’t fix the problem, we all die. So let’s fix it. -
mc chris and Dana Snyder are making a podcast

This is a surprise given MC Chris has allegedly become a pariah with a really bad reputation. -
Experiment to re-freeze Arctic shows promising early results
Jman replied to Jman's topic in Current Events
Any attempt at refreezing the Arctic would need to be coupled with CO2 removal and switching to cleaner energy. Surprisingly, the CO2 removal sector is also experimenting with a new scientific breakthrough, a chemical called COF-999 which is capable of sucking up the equivalent CO2 of an entire tree with half a pound of the substance. https://www.chemistryviews.org/chemical-solution-to-the-co2-problem/ Another step that needs to be scaled, but also equally exciting to deal with the problem especially since the professor behind it is working on even more efficient variants. That’s part of what drives me nuts about some people. We can fix this shit, but we have to be proactive. -
Experiment to re-freeze Arctic shows promising early results

https://www.realice.eco/science The theory is that they can actually boost the amount of ice that re-freezes in the winter and slow the amount that melts during the summer, resulting in a year to year net gain on total ice, and in turn reducing sea levels by ensuring more and more ice is frozen. I’m a historian by trade, not a scientist, but if the experiment is working that means that there’s year to year ice growth. Not to mention if there’s more and more ice, it further reflects sunlight and reduces the temperature further, reversing the warming trend. The ultimate goal is a reversal to pre-industrial levels of ice. -
Experiment to re-freeze Arctic shows promising early results

It’s better than sitting on our asses and waiting for the end because no one wants to do anything. The scaling is showing promising results, and if this latest experiment they’re doing over the winter continues to show that, it scales up more, and yeah, we can fix things. I’d rather fix things than accept it’s broken beyond repair. -
We’re starting to get the technologies to heal the damage we caused (a promising experiment to re-freeze the poles, COF-999 which sucks up CO2 at an amazing level of efficiency) but it all needs a clean energy transition to stick. Drill baby drill is spiteful.
