I have a feeling that whatever happens will serve to only divide the rich and the poor even more than they already are. Better computers, more advanced transport, technological implants and augmentations that will only be available to those who can afford it. It won't be for mass production, it will be to create an upper and lower class of human. Or that's how I see it. Or, in another scenario that becomes increasingly likely, we destroy ourselves with some newfound technology that we find a way to weaponize, or that gets out of control too fast. That is if we don't all die from the atom bomb. I don't know. Maybe one day it'll all be good and happy but I don't see that in my lifetime. I don't mean to sound like a philistine or anti-technology, I think a lot of the things we have today are great. The fact that we can even communicate with each other right now from the comfort of our own homes from miles away is incredible. But I fear the acceleration of technological advancement will lay us to waste.

Why Squirrely?

Mostly pessimistic. In the hands of corporations whose goal is profit above all and governments that believe everyone is deserving of scrutiny, it will become a tool of control and surveillance. Humanity's better nature will not win out.

I myself use Startpage, which is essentially the same as DDG. I read some stuff about the developers at DDG that gave me a sour feeling but now I can't recall what they were and I'm too entrenched in habit to change now.

I don't think I've ever used quotes or plus/minus in a search and have it give me any meaningful change to the results.
