I never really "got" the appeal of Gamegrumps. Like, it seemed like everyone stopped giving a fuck after JonTron left, but even with JonTron I couldn't follow most of the conversations since it was mostly people screaming over each other.

I wasn't arguing that "homophobia" does mean fear of the same. I was arguing if you base the definition on the root word of -phobia alone, it falls apart by applying the same logic to "homo-", which is used the same as ex: homosexual - attraction to same sex, or homogeneous - "of the same kind".

Yes it does. http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=homo- There's more than one "homo". "Homophobia" is derivative of Greek origin root words. Regardless, the other root word is "human" or "male human", so it still wouldn't translate to "fear of homosexuality" no matter how you twist it, not unless you bring in much more modern variations.

Not only, as Nab pointed out, the definition you linked inclusive of "aversion to" and "discrimination against", but if you want to get into semamtics about word meaning based on etymology, "homophobia" shouldn't translate to anything about homosexuality. The prefix "homo" means "same", so "homophobia" should translate to "irrational fear of the same". It doesn't mean that because the word is relatively new to the language and uses the root words loosely. So, just because the literal word means "irrational fear of the same" that's not actually what it is defined as. Wherein, it can be inferred that since "homo" is applied loosely, so may be "phobia".

To be fair, '99 abruptly cuts off at the last 3rd of Yorknew, so to finish the arc at all you have to track down a set of OVAs that are likely to have wildly different translation, and I believe '99 was licensed at some point but the conclusive Yorknew OVAs were not. So unless you sought out a separate fansub of the first OVAs, there may be a chance you didn't even see the whole arc. Either way, the first OVAs which finishes Yorknew is pretty great. Yorknew in general is for whichever version. I dunno, Greed Island OVAs aren't terrible or anything, they're probably the worst part of '99 though. Especially during the first batch they feel like the production value plummeted and an unfinished/unpolished product was released. It gets better as it goes, but those OVAs are kinda hard to judge.
