  1. Oh my glob. Maybe I'm conservative on the specific issue of technology. I have always been like, "this new tech sounds dumb. I'm not doing that".
  2. In health care, AI is used to analyze a patient's ECG. A doctor will read the computerized analysis and quickly discount it. He or she will then analyze the ECG on their own.
  3. Despite all the hype, many applications of AI are surprisingly unnecessary to daily life. Search engines, web feeds, service chatbots and digital assistants are all things people can live without. Recommendation systems on your Netflix or YouTube accounts aren't important if you think they are complete bunk and don't pay attention to them. Don't get me started on self-driving cars and how that's probably never going to happen. Are we 100% sure AI isn't the new cryptocurrency or NFTs?
  4. I never saw Tales from the Crypt when it first aired but I watched it when it aired on Fox late at night.
  5. Remember that period when Mad TV was followed by reruns of Tales from the Crypt?
  6. This seems similar to people being gullible enough to think anything they see online is legit. Think of the person who thinks obviously fake ads attached to articles on Cracked.com (or whatever website that is desperate enough to sell ad space to fraudsters). Even posts on social media, I don't read/look at it unless it's coming from an account I trust. I may read a post shared by the official account of CNN that I am 100% sure is the official account but I never read posts from a random "news" account I've never heard of before. This kind of fooling people has been around for as long as the interet has existed. Doesn't make it less annoying though.
  7. To elaborate on this because I've been replaying the game, the satire of deadend jobs is remarkably on point. I've worked in such jobs before, where managers have resigned themselves to burning through expendable employees. They just assume the new employee isn't going to last long. The Phone Guy character acts exactly like them. Some people are confused by Phone Guy. "Why does he act the way he does?" they will ask. Those people have never worked in a job like that before.
  8. I have a similar experience with daylight savings time. I used to dislike it, but now I kind of think it should be year round and that our morning routines (school, business hours, etc.) should start later.
  9. You have to really try hard to be their enemy. Why not just go with it?
  10. In order for machines to take over the world and put all human beings in zoos they are going to need sentience or consciousness. We don't know how consciousness works in human beings. It's called the "hard problem of consciousness". The idea that we humans are going to give it to another entity when we don't understand it in ourselves is a little far-fetched.
  11. Garlic rotini with carrots and broccoli.
  12. After considering it, I've sided with the skeptics. The current hype around AI is positively Muskian.
  13. Maybe @André Toulon is secretly an employee of the Pop Tarts corporation.
  14. The hype over artificial intelligence is damaging the reputation of scientists. Most lay people think the concept is nonsensical and see a bunch of supposed experts excited about a quixotic fad.
  15. This thread led me to buying Pop Tarts.
  16. No. Arkham Origins is the prequel game. It's the one of the four games that fans tend to like the least because it was made by a different production company and Conroy and Hamill don't play Batman and Joker. But it's my favorite.
  17. Arkham Origins is my favorite of the Batman Arkham games. The TN1 Bane fight is the only time I felt intimidated by one of the bosses.
  18. A turkey and bacon club and Diet Pepsi.
  19. I enjoy going to church. I usually show up about 30 minutes before a service starts and sit in silence. It's an attempt at contemplation, and I value that time.
  20. Classic rock and folk music depress me, and I feel an urge to make it stop playing. For example, my mom is a huge Eagles fan. Listens to them frequently because they remind her of her youth. I tolerate it because she loves it, but it kind of psychologically hurts to hear it sometimes.
  21. Too often during weekends, I hit a point where I'm so idle that negative emotions claw their way to the surface. "Now that I've been alone with my thoughts for a day, I'm a little depressed." Although this weekend (I'm posting this on a Sunday night) has been okay. I think because it's been a sunny, cool autumn day.
  22. I won't even opine on the use of "thermonuclear".
  23. That makes more sense. It was because Musk put the modifier before the subject in the sentence. "X Corp will be filing a thermonuclear lawsuit the split second court opens on Monday," would have been more understandable. Aside from that, I don't know if this makes the statement less dumb. Adding unnecessary adjectives for emotional emphasis. Not only is he angry, but he's "super duper angry". That's dumb for an entirely different reason.
