It works better, you can use it for free on your smartphone, and it runs on fairly underpowered hardware. This is basically OpenAI's worst nightmare because they've basically been pulling in investors saying that they could get a profitable AI model in 10 years with cutting edge hardware and datacenters powered by nuclear power plants. Deepseek shows that you actually can program something BETTER than ChatGPT with far far far less resources The true AI-pocalypse is coming
