yeah you gotta consider the racist aspects to really get this down. the best place to start would be in the 70s since that was the start of the heavy incline of the prison population. then go to the 90s when politicians started to get "tough on crime" as a political platform. the increase immigrant population is pretty much happened as a result of those policies sticking around. then maybe a segment on how police marginalized both the poor and people of color. really so much to cover on the topic so try to keep it focused. immigration detention has been around for quite a while but it really exploded during the obama years. that was more of a result of them needing a scapegoat to why everything was going to shit. of course they blamed immigrants so that white people could focus their problems on them and not the politicians that made those conditions happen.
