The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board
CaptainStarwind replied to StarPanda's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
When I saw that the thread went to a new page, I was hoping for the return of MC Bacon. Glad to see I wasn't disappointed. So what the hell happened to the 8:30 Super? Was it really all from the lead in? I doubt it. There has to be more to it than that. Personally, though, I'm going to consider it a fluke until further notice. -
Netflix to produce 30 new anime series in 2018.
CaptainStarwind replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I'm sure there'll be a few decent ones, but by and large most of them will probably suck. Unfortunate, but expected. -
You'd think they'd announce something soon...

I can sort of understand it. It was a huge phenomena when it first aired in Japan, and it's airing in the US isn't wasn't any different. It ingrained itself into pop culture. Whenever someone who isn't an anime fan does an anime parody, it's gonna be one of DBZ. It's one of the few, if not the only, anime anyone can admit to watching without seeming like a weeb. Even beyond that, the story for DBZ is practically non existent. There's good guys and there's evil guys. They fight. It's as simple as you can get. It's an easy show to jump right in to at any point, so it makes sense that it would hold casual viewers decently well. -
I am not opposed to this whatsoever.

Definitely not 100% of the time; Toonami can still get a good show here or there. Everyone else is right: Netflix has the money and the resources to get most of the big name shows. If they get a show and it turns out to be a flop, it's not as big of a deal for them: they have 10 others shows they picked up that will probably do well. Toonami, by nature of being a cable TV block, doesn't have that luxury. If they get a show, and it's a flop, it's a lot more costly for them. IMO this is why Toonami should try to focus on lesser known or less exposed. It's obvious they can't compete with Netflix in terms of money, exposure, or pickups, so they shouldn't try to do so. It probably won't help ratings, but neither will continuing on the current path.

Oh my god, I haven't laughed this hard in a while. He looks like he's in the middle of shitting himself. :D :D

A little bit of both sides have truth to them. Netflix has definitely been picking up shows that would probably have been on Toonami otherwise, but I doubt they're doing it out of any sort of specific malice to Toonami. It's competition, is all it is. DeMarco is, honestly, just being paranoid and whiny about it.

This is kind of sad. RIP

Do we really need Samurai Jack again this quickly? The late night reruns ended barely a month ago, and Adult Swim aired the show practically all summer before that. I like Samurai Jack, but I think everyone can agree that it's getting excessive. You know what would have been better? A Shippuden marathon. It's never gotten one before, and we just got out of the Pain arc, one of the better arcs in the show. What better time than now to have a Shippuden marathon? -

Well these ratings aren't fun. No, not at all. It's weird since the ratings are usually better when I don't watch Toonami live, and I haven't watched Toonami live since July... On a serious note, DBS, one again, needs to be moved from 11:00 PM. Put something else there. I'm not saying it'll keep the rest of the shows from dropping so much, but at the very least, it'll probably make the overall ratings higher. -
I didn't really find the premise of it all that interesting so I never watched or read it. Seems like I made the correct call.

Yeah, I completely agree with this. Toonami needs to shake it up a bit and get something other than the standard shonen fare. Ratings be damned. -

It's gotten to the point where I'm not even surprised to see numbers like this anymore. If it's any consolation, Toonami won't be cancelled. If these numbers really were that terrible Adult Swim would have acted by now. I wouldn't worry, for those of you that still do. -
Ah, this I agree with. I immediately assumed that it was going to go to CW. It would definitely be done better elsewhere. I'd be fine with people acting irrationally as long as someone calls them out for it. There's always gonna be people who will panic in a given situation, and people who will remain calm and think it through. I just prefer that the latter calls the former out on it. Also, I definitely agree that it would be interesting seeing all the stuff that happened in between episodes. As much as I enjoyed Aincrad, that would make for a much more interesting story than Tentacle loli.

And here I thought that you would be the one most put off by an SAO live action show. SAO Live Action isn't going to be aimed at the same fanbase the anime was. If I had to guess, they're going to change a good number of things about the show in order to make it appeal more to a general audience. They'll probably ramp up the sex factor in the show, make the characters a lot more angsty, Americanize everyone, and just overall make the show a lot more dramatic. That alone would keep people watching, even if the show is absolute drek.

Hollywood sticking it's neck in anime again

Netflix may have just acquired the WORST anime co-pro ever!
CaptainStarwind replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Anime & Manga
I've had people flat out tell me I suck and that I'm a terrible person for not having a Netflix account. Honestly at this point I don't have one more out of spite than anything else. TBH when I move out of home I'll probably end up getting one, but that isn't for at least 4 more months, if not a bit longer. -

Oh come now, IGPX is fun. Honestly I'd like to see it air later in the night on Toonami again. As for Neo Yokio, the plot summary makes me cringe. It also gives me one more reason to never get Netflix. -

Oh, now this takes me back...Chobits was one of the first anime I ever purchased. -
Baka and Test Episode 13 I have memories of when we got the Funimation Channel waaaaaay back in 2010-2011, and this was one of the shows I always had on in the background, and occasionally watched. It's a bit nostalgic for me, and that's part of the reason why I decided to give it a watch. I enjoyed it for what it was, but I will say that this is a rather difficult show to watch with people constantly barging in and out of my bedroom. I could probably go right into the second season, but I'll give it a rest before I do that. Re:Zero replaces Baka and Test. Oh, and since I didn't mention it before: Kimagure Orange Road replaces Steins;Gate.

Believe it or not, I found out about the scene after I finished with the series and read through the TVTropes page, so don't worry, I found it Him speaking jive in the English dub is just as funny, too. -

Quite a lot, actually! The first few episodes were a slow burn, but once it got to about episode 10 I really got hooked on it. I binged through the rest of the series in two days after that. The idea of time travel is something that I love (my favorite movie is Back to the Future), so this series was really satisfying for me. Other random thoughts: -I like how I thought this was going to be a mindscrew series when I first watched Episode 1, but I'm glad it became more straightforward pretty quickly. I also like how I like when shows do that. -I thought the dub was awesome. All of the little name drops and references they made kept it really fun for me, and I thought the voice actors themselves did a great job. -I never actually heard of John Titor before watching this series, but it definitely got me interested in the guy. Titor was obviously a fake, of course, but it's still interesting to read about.
