What we know so far: January 7, 2017: 11:30 DBZ Super Encore 12 AM DBZ Kai Final Chapters 12:30 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 2 1 AM Gundam Unicorn Re: 0096 Are they done adding new shows for now? We really don't know. A new show at 1:30 isn't beyond the realm of possibility, especially if it's something older like Tokyo Ghoul, and I guess I could see Discotek's Lupin III Part 4 dub sliding into such a timeslot. I still believe Toonami will expand to 4 AM in 2017; more on that later. This of course would mean Hunter x Hunter at 2; Shippuden at 2:30; One Piece at 3 AM; and One-Punch Man closing out the night at 3:30. Definitely coming in 2017: Samurai Jack Season 5 (10 episodes) FLCL Season 2 (6 episodes) Most likely coming in 2017: Attack on Titan Season 2 Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans Season 2 Possibly coming in 2017: Lupin III Part 4 (24 episodes) Tokyo Ghoul (24-26 episodes) Blue Exorcist: Impure King Arc (???) So here's what I think will happen: One more show yet to be announced, permanently expanding Toonami to 4 AM. Whether it would be 1:30 or a more "classic" at 3 AM, I don't know yet. Samurai Jack expands Toonami one more time to 11 PM for Toonami's 20th Anniversary on 3/18/17. Toonami now runs 11-4 AM. Toonami messes with the 4/1/17 encore of DB Super somehow at 11:30 (but NOT the premiere!) Samurai Jack has a full-night marathon on Memorial Day weekend, then is replaced by AOT S2. At some point, in mid-June, Gundam Unicorn Re:0096 ends and is replaced by Gundam IBO S2. No marathon on July 1st, as the Gundams need a total of 47 weeks to fit into 2017. Blue Exorcist: Impure King Arc premieres at 1:30 in late June or early July, replacing whatever the other new show is that opened the year. If HxH, Shippuden, and One PIece were allowed to keep their previous timeslots, they relinquish them now and move down 30 minutes. AOT S2 actually takes a split-cour break for FLCL, beginning September 9th. Before this happens, FLCL Season 1 gets a Labor Day partial marathon from 1-4 after a special event from 11-1. Another marathon Oct. 28, followed by another DST movie special event on November 4th. That's all I got. Anyone else care to take a stab?

Yeah, I suppose it does! But that might not be such a bad thing; we'll just have to see! -

Well alright then! This WILL be interesting! -
Episodes 11-15 now through tonight at 6:30; should be able to get one more good run in before then. Episodes 16-20 following that until Friday at 6:30. So if you want to catch up on the last parts of the Hunter Exam, this is your week. I'm surprised they're going back this far, but I guess it's whatever.

While it might be nice to see a show with a strong female lead back on Toonami, guess they're doubling down on dudebro shows. We'll see how well this works out, though... -

By now I'm sure you've heard the news: We've got Dragon Ball Super coming in at 11:30 next year and DBZ Kai continuing with The Final Chapters at Midnight. BUT DBS is also playing at 8 PM. It's unknown at this time if those are going to be premieres or encores. Toonami's facebook has not yet commented on the 8 PM airing. What does this have to do with ratings, and why does this distinction even matter? Simple: Show Buzz Daily only reports on Cable Originals, and at this time it's still rather unclear if the 8 PM airing will be the encore or if the 11:30 PM airing will be! But which ever one is first will be the Cable Original, and it's the one that we will get detailed ratings information from on SBD. DBZ Kai Final Chapters, meanwhile, is airing at Midnight. It's unknown whether it will be treated as a cable original, or if it will get Hunter x Hunter and Naruto: Shippuden's inexplicable treatment and not be reported upon, despite the fact that both shows have never been on cable before unless it was one of those obscure Japanese channels as raws. It's unknown if that's the case for DBZ Kai FC. One thing's for sure: 1/10/17 looks to be a very interesting day! -

It's an hour of Dragon Ball followed by new JoJo and Gundam. JoJo might be something quite new, but based off of an older manga from the time of DBZ, so still indeed a classic Toonami setup! -

I think it's quite funny that yesterday we were all speculating that DBZ was done on Toonami! I ALSO think it's quite funny that on the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor we're all raving about this! -
Do y'all want retrospective discussions in this board?

I should have asked this question a week ago. I guess enough "yes" responses and I'll launch one for Hellsing Ultimate X at Midnight on December 13th! -
IGN has also reported that DB Super will air at 8 PM outside of Toonami during Adult Swim proper. I would expect these to be encores instead of premieres, but the article is unclear. As for January 7th at 8, I suppose they might re-air Episode 98 of DBZ Kai, but again, nothing's official. http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/12/07/dragon-ball-super-english-dub-to-premiere-on-adult-swims-toonami-in-january No word yet if Kai Final Chapters will encore afterward at 8:30, but I suppose it's possible! One thing's for sure, 2017 will likely be a GIANT year for Toonami! EDIT: 8 PM Super premieres; 11:30 PM encores to lead off Toonami. Hope this works well!

Wow! Well I guess this means there's no more room for Mob Psycho 100 or Lupin III Part 4, so get on those broadcast dubs already, FUNimation! Now I COULD see Tokyo Ghoul at 3 AM after One Piece, since it's older, and currently available on FUNimation NOW, which would mean an 11:30-4 AM Toonami. Since now there's only room for American Dad, KOTH, and Family Guy before Toonami, I would say an expansion for Toonami to 4 AM is probable! Also, since it's official, don't we need a new thread about this? -

Notice I said "Midnight Show", not necessarily "DBZ Kai Buu Saga" in that last sentence. We knew about Attack on Titan coming at 11:30 PM on 5/3/14 from the 4/12/14 Toonami block, which was 3 weeks earlier, and it premiered just fine. I would say this midnight show is just as great in magnitude if not even bigger! It would be great if they could announce it this Friday on Pre-Flight, but if that's not possible, I suppose next Friday will do! Also, with the 8 PM hour returned to Adult Swim, it's possible Toonami will regain the 11:30 timeslot on 1/7/17. Now we learned in the summer that shifting the timeslots is straight-up DUMB, so adding a new timeslot at the top would OBVIOUSLY be preferred. Hell, I can even think of a scenario where all THREE of the shows that were mentioned on that Twitter poll last week get added to Toonami (and yes, we also say "bye-bye" to DBZ Kai)... AND HELLO TO DB SUPER!!! I'm still calling Mob Psycho 100 for the midnight timeslot, maybe followed by Lupin III Part 4 or Jack. Jack could also be an 11 PM show though! -

Sorry, I really don't want DB Super to come to Toonami, well not yet anyway. I'd rather us get the Buu saga of DBZ Kai, THEN DB Super. One thing's for sure: if DBZ Kai Final Chapters (Buu saga) IS coming to Toonami, we SHOULD know about it today. Currently the Midnight timeslot on 1/7/17 is vacant, and that's only a month away! Does that mean we WILL know about the midnight show today? Probably not. I'm HOPING they'll mention it during Pre-Flight. Not airing promos for it during the 12/17 lineup would be incredibly stupid, but yes, I realize they've ALSO gotta air promos for the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and DBZ Kai marathons! -
JoJo double-shot on 12/17 confirmed: And that Super-Secret backdoor schedule that I don't even know if I should post here says that the Christmas Eve JoJo's marathon will be Episodes 4-10. I'm OK with this, as 3 was sort of the end of a series of prologues, like with Soul Eater (except in this case they all had sizable timeskips between them and focused on the same characters).

Still no update from Programming Insider yet, but an estimate of the numbers SBD provided shows that the lineup got about 600K in 18-49 from 12-2. However, 2-3:30 really stunk it up, making the whole block average only about 492K, but those are just my estimates! Oop, here we go!! 12:00 AM Dragon Ball Z Kai - 777,000 (88.67%) 12:30 AM Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - 615,000 (79.15%) 1:00 AM Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans - 538,000 (87.48%) 1:30 AM Hunter × Hunter - 483,000 (89.78%) 2:00 AM Naruto: Shippuden - 400,000 (82.82%) 2:30 AM One Piece - 345,000 (86.25%) 3:00 AM One-Punch Man (rerun) - 306,000 (88.70%) ADULTS 18-49 AVERAGE - 494,857 That's a little better, but still not above 500K. Maybe next week? And here's how all the averages so far stack up: SHOW AVERAGES SO FAR Dragonball Z Kai - 1,375,344 (96 episodes) Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - 1,012,714 (7 episodes) Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans - 944,250 (24 episodes) Hunter × Hunter - 907,700 (30 episodes) Naruto: Shippuden - 889,893 (138 episodes) One Piece - 803,206 (164 episodes) One Punch Man Rerun - 643,000 (6 episodes) ADULTS 18-49 Dragonball Z Kai - 792,260 (96 episodes) Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - 600,571 (7 episodes) Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans - 559,167 (24 episodes) Hunter × Hunter - 533,300 (30 episodes) Naruto: Shippuden - 491,047 (138 episodes) One Piece - 436,067 (164 episodes) One Punch Man Rerun - 376,400 (6 episodes) ADULTS 18-34 (Estimated) Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - 383,571 (7 episodes) Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans - 368,458 (24 episodes) JoJo is saved from falling under a million on average, but Gundam IBO S1 will be hard-pressed to beat 950K, and will also end under 600K 18-49 and 400K 18-34; THANKS PHANTOM BLOOD ARC! -
I just noticed something: Adult Swim has changed the schedule on Saturday nights outside of Toonami, regaining the 8 PM hour: 8 PM: KOTH x2 9 PM: Cleveland Show 9:30: American Dad 10 PM: Bob's Burgers x2 11: PM: Family Guy x2 And then after Toonami is most interesting: 3:30 AM: American Dad (formerly Bob's Burgers) 4 AM: Bob's Burgers (same) 4:30 AM: Bob's Burgers (formerly American Dad) 5 AM: King Of The Hill (formerly American Dad) 5:30 AM King Of The Hill (same) So the question is: "what does this mean for Toonami?" Well, as you've probably already guessed, that Cleveland Show might be a placeholder for re-expansion to 11:30 with a brand new show sometime in 2017. Also, the American Dad rerun at 3:30 AM might be a deterrent to occasional one-night expansion to 4:30 AM, but that might not be the case at all, as it's possible that AD simply moves up to 4:30 AM and Bob's reruns get whisked off the schedule for one night only like what happened when Parasyte got its farewell marathon and Children Who Chase Lost Voices aired. IIRC, an American Dad duo that normally aired at 3:30 AM got bumped up to 4:30 AM in 2015 when DST began, so that Toonami wouldn't have to contract for one night only.

I wonder if CWCLV really was a one-time deal. It certainly would seem to make more sense to replay it after JoJo on 12/17 to me than another JoJo and otherwise the regular lineup, but apparently what makes sense to me doesn't to Toonami. Be glad it played a total of 10 times this past weekend on the Toonami Marathon Stream then, though the highest number of people watching it appeared to be 150 or so. As for the JoJo marathon on 12/24, which episodes they're gonna go with is still shrouded in mystery, but the super-secret backdoor schedule lists American Dad Replay at 3:30, so expansion to 4:30 to get in the entire Part 1: Phantom Blood arc (Episodes 1-9) seems unlikely at this point. Running episodes 1-7 will end with the cliffhanger we saw Saturday night, although to be fair it IS a bit of a denoument so that might be OK. But I would go with 4-10 instead. Episode 1 kinda exists in its own universe and is followed by a timeskip, and Episode 2 is more exposition than anything. Maybe they'll go 3-9 and not replay the first episode of Part 2: Battle Tendencies; that would seem alright to me, since either way Episode 11 is at least 2 weeks away! Absolutely nothing about the Kai marathon on 12/31 yet!

This of course means One Piece didn't make it, and One-Punch Man missed the mark on Sunday as well. In fact, no 3 AM Toonami shows have snuck onto the Sunday Top 100 since Episode 2 hit #56 back on 10/22. And ShowBuzzDaily also got updated, so here's what we have now: 12:00 AM Dragon Ball Z Kai - 1,426,000 (89.01%) 0.61 (+0.07) 12:30 AM Jojo's Bizarre Adventure 1,062,000 (74.47%) 0.48 (+0.08) 1:00 AM Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans - 950,000 (89.45%) 0.42 (+0.07) 1:30 AM Hunter × Hunter - 845,000 (88.95%) 0.38 (+0.04) 2:00 AM Naruto: Shippuden - 726,000 (85.92%) 0.31 (-0.01) 2:30 AM One Piece - 640,000 (88.15%) 0.27 (-0.01) 3:00 AM One-Punch Man (rerun) - 611,000 (95.47%) 0.24 (-0.05) TOTAL VIEWERS AVERAGE - 894,286 It really IS the tale of two halves here, as the top half triumphed while the bottom half languished, and Saitama REALLY blew it this time! -
It appears that the rights to Michiko & Hatchin might be expiring soon! Some commenters on Twitter have mentioned that they can see where episodes expire either 12/7 or 12/8, and if all that is the case, then my theory is it was acquired at the same time as either Cowboy Bebop HD or one of the movies, probably not Hellsing Ultimate IX or X since those started tonight 2 years ago, but perhaps Broly? In fact, I figure Broly, Bebop HD, the 2nd run of Deadman Wonderland, and Michiko & Hatchin might have all been acquired together; just not AIRED at the same time. There wasn't a good timeslot for Michiko until InuYasha: The Final Act ended, well that's my theory, anyway.

At least this week those "delusions" are delusions of grandeur, as everything improved markedly! Yes, both shows won their timeslots among cable originals in Adults 18-49, plus JoJo WON THE NIGHT in Adults 18-34 and Males 12-34! 12/3/2016 JoJo's Bizzare Adv. Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.55 Estimated 18-34 - 374,000 Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.48 Estimated 18-49 - 610,000 Total Viewers - 1,062,000 12/3/2016 Gundam IBO Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.50 Estimated 18-34 - 340,000 Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.42 Estimated 18-49 - 533,000 Total Viewers - 950,000 That's better than JoJo has done since 10/22, its 3rd best ratings yet! And better than Gundam has done since 10/15! Hopefully things get even better next week for Gundam IBO's Season 1 Finale; I would like to see it inch above a million just once more! -
Gundam Unicorn on Toonami this January... discuss.
OwlChemist81 replied to Blatch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Welp, mistook this for the ratings thread somehow, but I guess I'll say that I believe Gundam Unicorn will do better in the ratings than Gundam IBO. It's just a better, more Gundam show! IBO is like "steampunk Gundam", if that makes a lick of sense! Not so for Unicorn, as beam weapons return!
