I pretty much always watch the 2:30 ET/1:30 CT replay. The 10 PM ET showing is just a little more iffy since it's 9 PM my time! -

It's a very Arachnophilic episode of Toonami this week, as Jason & Gill talk about their favorite fictitious spider! Plus Jason reviews Your Name! -

Jack's Wednesday night 10 PM rerun just doesn't seem to be holding up as well against the NBA Finals as its comedy counterparts: http://programminginsider.com/ratings/final-nationals/wednesday-final-nationals-criminal-minds-cbs-reaches-six-month-high-among-adults-18-49/ I daresay when Jack ends we might not see weeknight action again for a while. -

It's an early review of the dub on Anime News Network. I'll see if I can find it! AH, found it! http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/attack-on-titan/episodes-1 Here's an excerpt: "In spurts and peeps, our heroes have become more snarky, detached and genre-savvy than they used to be. American audiences do love their detached quippy antiheroes! Unfortunately, that's just not who these three kids are supposed to be. Mikasa is not sarcastic, in fact she's disturbingly blunt. Armin is not arrogant, in fact he struggles with horrible self-loathing. Eren is definitely not self-reflective or eloquent by any stretch of the imagination. These three are painfully sincere characters, and the homogeneity of lines like these isn't just untrue to the original intent, it makes them all sound like one another. This becomes even more apparent when episode 3 begins and the syntax and dialogue choices shift heavily back to faithfulness: it was obviously written by a different person. The writer for ep. 4 is unclear, but the adaptive voice dominating 1 and 2 is clearly back in 5. Viewers should not be able to distinguish this so clearly in one viewing. Maintaining original intent is the best way to avoid that. However, to new Titan fans and less picky old ones, the mild snideness and verbosity might be welcome, as a version of these characters unto itself in a standalone dub. Either way, it's a minor gripe, and you can judge from the sample lines above how much it might affect your viewing experience. " -

Super is only the worst because it makes Goku look like an asshole--IN JAPANESE. The English dub may yet include a slightly more noble characterization of Goku--after all, FUNimation DID slightly change the characters of Attack on Titan and a large article was written about that very phenomenon! So far he isn't THAT different from his DBZ counterpart, but maybe that's just because he's voiced by the incomparable Sean Schemmel? -
Need to catch up on Dragon Ball Super? Want to relive the Beerus fight in one day as it's supposed to be? Well the Stream has your back! It's episodes 6-10 now; most likely 11-15 from this evening (Wednesday) at about 9:30 through Friday evening at 8! I believe the last time it played on the weekday stream was the week of 2/13-2/17. It was only episodes 1-5, and I don't know if anyone made a thread for it!

I dunno about NHL playoffs, and I think you're right about boxing, but NBA is a non-issue going forward. Playoffs games will not air on Saturday nights. Might hurt Mike Tyson Mysteries on Sunday nights though! Anyway, here's my weekly wrap-up: TOTAL VIEWERS RETENTION 8:00 PM Dragon Ball Super 914,000 10:30 PM Family Guy 1,395,000 11:00 PM Samurai Jack 1,302,000 (93.33%) 11:30 PM Dragon Ball Super 977,000 (75.04%) 12:00 AM DBZ Kai: The Final Chapters 996,000 (101.94%) 12:30 AM Attack on Titan Season 2 808,000 (81.12%) 1:00 AM Tokyo Ghoul 719,000 (88.99%) 1:30 AM Hunter × Hunter 656,000 (91.24%) 2:00 AM Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn 575,000 (87.65%) 2:30 AM Naruto: Shippuden 560,000 (97.39%) 3:00 AM Ghost In The Shell HD 532,000 (95.00%) TOTAL VIEWERS AVERAGE - 791,667 It turns out that Dragon Ball Super actually had the worst retention of the night, and Jack for once failed to beat 10:30 PM Family Guy. The 12-3:30 portion of the block is down 28% in total viewers vs. the 20% for the rest of [as] vs. this week last year. That's not very good, even if the total viewers average was UP slightly (~2k) from last week. ADULTS 18-49 RETENTION 8:00 PM Dragon Ball Super 468,000 10:30 PM Family Guy 834,000 11:00 PM Samurai Jack 824,000 (98.80%) 11:30 PM Dragon Ball Super 603,000 (73.18%) 12:00 AM DBZ Kai: The Final Chapters 619,000 (102.65%) 12:30 AM Attack on Titan Season 2 481,000 (77.71%) 1:00 AM Tokyo Ghoul 433,000 (90.02%) 1:30 AM Hunter × Hunter 382,000 (88.22%) 2:00 AM Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn 338,000 (88.48%) 2:30 AM Naruto: Shippuden 341,000 (100.89%) 3:00 AM Ghost In The Shell HD 341,000 (100.00%) ADULTS 18-49 TOONAMI AVERAGE - 484,667 Samurai Jack managed to retain almost 99% of the 18-49 portion of the audience from Family Guy. Even if it was at its season low, that's still pretty good! Super at 11:30's retention of adults 18-49 was even worse than its retention of total viewers. All of a sudden somehow Gundam doesn't seem that damn bad, even if it WAS the nadir of the night across ALL [as] in 18-49! However, the average was down almost 15k from last week, and also the 12-3:30 portion of the block was down 13% from last year. We don't even know how far all [as] was down, so that might actually be a good thing for Toonami! And finally: CURRENT SHOW AVERAGES Total Viewers Dragon Ball Super (8 PM) - 883,063 (16 episodes) Samurai Jack - 1,352,571 (7 episodes) Dragon Ball Super (11:30 PM) - 1,148,688 (16 episodes) Dragon Ball Z Kai: Final Chapters - 1,032,118 (17 episodes) Attack On Titan Season 2 - 817,000 (2 episodes) Tokyo Ghoul - 746,200 (5 episodes) Hunter × Hunter - 829,245 (49 episodes) Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - 694,412 (17 episodes) Naruto: Shippuden - 860,747 (156 episodes) Ghost In The Shell HD - 521,538 (13 episodes) Adults 18-49 Dragon Ball Super (8 PM, Estimate) - 431,000 (16 episodes) Samurai Jack - 868,429 (7 episodes) Dragon Ball Super (11:30 PM) - 700,438 (16 episodes) Dragon Ball Z Kai: Final Chapters - 627,059 (17 episodes) Attack On Titan Season 2 - 502,000 (2 episodes) Tokyo Ghoul - 465,400 (5 episodes) Hunter × Hunter - 493,061 (49 episodes) Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - 422,529 (17 episodes) Naruto: Shippuden - 477,631 (139 episodes) Ghost In The Shell HD - 325,692 (13 episodes) Adults 18-34 (Estimated) Dragon Ball Super (8 PM) - 276,333 (15 episodes) Samurai Jack - 585,429 (7 episodes) Dragon Ball Z Kai: Final Chapters - 425,235 (17 episodes) Attack On Titan Season 2 - 316,000 (2 episodes) Tokyo Ghoul - 312,600 (5 episodes) Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - 288,529 (17 episodes) Weird, now in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, BOTH Tokyo Ghoul and Gundam Unicorn stick out like sore thumbs, as on an aggregate average basis, they're outrated by the Viz shows ahead of them! Then again, those shows both had MUCH better starts as they're the longest-run shows currently on the block! -

Well lookie here: http://programminginsider.com/ratings/final-nationals/saturday-final-nationals-not-white-house-correspondents-dinner-tbs-tops-real-dinner-cnn-msnbc-among-adults-18-49/ AOT may have bombed hard, but Super bombed even harder, and Kai even beat it! Ouch to Gundam Unicorn, being the LOWEST slot of the night in 18-49, even getting edged out by Shippuden and GITS! -

Well, here's the 12-3:30 retention, as SBD has updated to include everything but Dragon Ball Super: 12:00 AM DBZ Kai: The Final Chapters 996,000 12:30 AM Attack on Titan Season 2 808,000 (81.12%) 1:00 AM Tokyo Ghoul 719,000 (88.99%) 1:30 AM Hunter × Hunter 656,000 (91.24%) 2:00 AM Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn 575,000 (87.65%) 2:30 AM Naruto: Shippuden 560,000 (97.39%) 3:00 AM Ghost In The Shell HD 532,000 (95.00%) Attack on Titan sadly has only itself to blame once again. Yeah, it's most likely going to stay at 12:30 AM, sadly. Also I must question WHY AOT doesn't get its topical immediately after it ends, but instead during another Toonami show? It's official: The Gundam/Shippuden hour did worse in total viewers in April (560K) vs. Hellsing Ultimate in October/November 2014 (597K). Let that sink in. -

I will indeed be pleasantly surprised if that 11 PM timeslot stays with Toonami after Jack ends. You're right: it's probably (like a 90% certainty) not going to happen, and we will once again have Dragon Ball Super starting off the block at 11:30, while Attack on Titan languishes at 12:30 behind the sagging weight of the Dragon Ball Shit Hour. Hopefully they'll at least do the right thing and lead-in to it with Family Guy; using 11 PM to give a 3-peat to something like Rick & Morty would be purely asinine!! I think most likely, we'll see the last 11-3:30 Toonami on 5/20, then a special 11-4 Toonami on Memorial Day which is a marathon of all 10 episodes of Samurai Jack Season 5, and then on 6/3 Toonami's new runtime will be 11:30-4 with Jack reruns at 3, GITS at 3:30. -

I don't think AOT will move down a timeslot, because just what in the hell could replace it? I think IF AOT doesn't move up to 11 PM instead to replace Samurai Jack, then most likely it's Tokyo Ghoul that will take the fall to 2 AM since its ratings have been just as trashy as it is (not even breaking 900K at 1 AM!? What the hell!?) when Root A begins. Or, maybe it will even take a break between the first season and Root A? Dumping Gundam IBO S2 at 2 AM when it's a dub premiere would be stupid, and even though AOT hasn't exactly had the most auspicious beginning, it IS a broadcast dub so I think it will not fall below 12:30. I think this is what we're likely gonna see come the end of Gundam Unicorn on June 10th (assuming some sort of marathon on May 27th): 12:30 Attack on Titan Season 2 #7 1 AM Tokyo Ghoul #11 1:30 Tokyo Ghoul #12 2 AM Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn #22 And then on June 17th, 12:30 Attack on Titan Season 2 #8 1 AM Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans #26 1:30 Hunter x Hunter (returning from a brief 1-week hiatus) 2 AM Tokyo Ghoul Root A #1 Only problem is that Hunter x Hunter would release one new episode every TWO weeks for a WHOLE FREAKING MONTH (May 20, June 3, June 17) before returning to regular once-a-week release. I really hope this doesn't happen. I really hope, despite a lackluster beginning, Attack on Titan gets boosted somehow to 11 PM, which would free up 12:30 for IBO beginning June 3rd and also leave a timeslot for SOMETHING to premiere on June 17th at 2 AM! In other news, well this is disappointing: http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/daily-ratings/saturday-cable-ratings-april-29-2017/ Bee got the feature instead of Jack. -

You're right. And flashing back just one week illustrates why that might not even be a big deal when there are major sporting events the same night: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-4-22-2017.html MALES 12-34 22-Apr 29-Apr 08:00 PM DBS 0.53 0.59 11:00 PM SMJ 0.95 0.90 12:00 AM DBK 0.84 0.83 12:30 AM AOT 0.66 0.61 01:00 AM TKG 0.52 0.58 02:00 AM MGU 0.38 0.53 Kind of a mixed bag. Sometimes, as with Jack-AOT, the night with more sports was higher, but with 8 PM Super, Ghoul, and Gundam the night with fewer sports was higher! -

Estimated 18-34 - 272,000 ( 37.83% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.34 Estimated 18-49 - 436,000 ( 60.64% ) Total Viewers - 719,000 4/29/2017 Gundam Unicorn - #20 (+4) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.32 Estimated 18-34 - 217,000 ( 37.74% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.26 Estimated 18-49 - 333,000 ( 57.91% ) Total Viewers - 575,000 Just looking at these numbers and not even the shows, I would argue with you if you told me Attack on Titan is back, as it just keeps plodding along doing JoJo-like numbers, complete with an embarrassingly-low estimated 285K in 18-34s. Oh how the mighty have fallen... Samurai Jack might have triumphantly claimed the #1 slot along with his sword but even HE was down this week, possibly not even cracking 500K in 18-34s. And this is all against almost NO competition to speak of. Millenials don't care about political theater, so the WHCD, which got beat even by Gundam Unicorn, CAN'T be the culprit--so what IS? I guess it was just a good night to go out and party instead? Even so, I believe that Toonami's target demographic may actually be Males 12-34, and that's evident in the fact that it absolutely KILLED it in those demographics. Even the lowly Gundam Unicorn at 2 AM still managed a 0.53, beating everything outside Toonami except the NFL Draft. But the ultimate victory is that the Draft had to settle for the #2 slot, beaten by Toonami's top show! What will the schedule be like in June? Will AOT finally get its time to shine and replace Jack at 11 PM? Or will we simply lose 11 PM back to [as] and Family Guy? -
Dragon Ball Super Episode 16 Discussion

I actually kinda dug GT. Oddly enough, I didn't see much of it on old Toonami but I DID see most of it on NickToons after they picked it up following the success of Kai. Baby was a FIERCE villain with a tie to an old rival of the Saiyans, and the Super Android 17 saga was interesting. Omega Shenron, as the name implies, was the result of an unfortunate backfire of the overuse of the Dragon Balls! Of course, Super also has its Dragon Ball tendencies, as exhibited by the presence of Emperor Pilaf through the Beerus arc, though he's the lovable conniving screw-up instead of the big bad like he was in Dragon Ball. Also, we actually got Goku vs. Krillin in this episode, just for old time's sake: -
