Yeah, just look up Deadman Wonderland for another example of that! And that WAS a Toonami show with a semi-successful manga which will probably never get a 2nd season despite selling pretty well over here, as its sales SUCKED in Japan! You might even say that we know how to market action shows better than Japan--so maybe what action anime needs is a "Toonami Japan" block??

It is with a heavy heart that I feel I must inform the UEMB that Ed Blaylock of Fuhrer Bradley in Fullmetal Alchemist fame has passed away at the age of 64. More here: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2017-04-22/fullmetal-alchemist-one-piece-voice-actor-ed-blaylock-passes-away/.115157 Well, at least he managed to outlive his most famous character by a few years, as both versions of Fuhrer Bradley died at about age 60 (FMAB's might have lived to be 61 due to the timeskip). And of course this explains why he wasn't cast in the upcoming season of Attack on Titan as the official who exonerates Armin...

To be fair, it was pretty popular over here. It was even dubbed on FUNimation NOW! Hell, if you have a subscription, you can still watch it! https://www.funimation.com/shows/keijo/

I bother because my phone isn't working properly and it keeps restarting. Even if it was, I'd have limited functions that wouldn't enable me to do it justice to begin with. Plus It's either sacrifice my social life 2 nights a week or make the threads, then edit them later. I choose the latter. You can't deny that while they look rather silly to begin with, they usually end up alright!

Tokyo Ghoul returns from being banished by last week's doubleshot of JoJo tomorrow night! (4/22/17) Who says 1 AM is too late for "Supper?" Besides, it's only 10 PM on the west coast; that's a completely acceptable suppertime, right?? Ah, just watch the show and enjoy. We all know Samurai Jack through AOT is the main course, but this is like dessert, right? Bloody, fleshy dessert! [mmmmmmm]

If you haven't seen them yet, this afternoon will probably be your last chance to see Episodes 6-10 for a while before Pre-Flight takes over at 8 PM ET. And Episode 11, individually streaming, expires tomorrow at Midnight if you'd like to continue the cliffhanger which ends Episode 10 with JoJo vs. Count Straizo!

I had hoped that since Samurai Jack's Toonami premiere hit its season low in both total viewers and adults 18-34, as well as was just 7K above it in 18-49, the Wednesday night rerun might have gotten a bit higher ratings than usual. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case: http://programminginsider.com/ratings/final-nationals/wednesday-final-nationals-fargo-return-fx-slightly-previous-season-premiere/ The 10 PM Wednesday airing only managed a 0.42 in 18-49 (~538K), a full 0.04 lower than the previous low (~590K), and it was only up from the series low on week 2 in total viewers by a mere 8k. -
Why is this not in Dumpster Fires?

Attack on Titan Season 2 on Toonami April 22nd!
OwlChemist81 replied to Blatch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Whoa, I didn't see that coming! Do they do that with Dragon Ball Super? I've seen a massive crapton of plays of the topical commercial for the 15th episode of DBS tonight, and quite a few plays of the Samurai Jack S5E6 topical, but I haven't seen ONE play of the Attack on Titan promo, as the only mention I've seen of AOT at all was during the Toonami lineup promo which aired at the end of Samurai Jack, and I've at least been half-watching from Samurai Jack at 10 PM through the Boondocks at 12:15 AM! But at any rate, if the show takes a break on Toonami for Memorial Day, it will probably also take a break that week on FUNimation NOW. -
Attack on Titan Season 2 on Toonami April 22nd!

FUNimation is only posting the subtitled version of the show, NOT the dub. The dub will be exclusive to [as] and Toonami for a while! -

That doesn't always work with abbreviations! Also, I hope everyone's watching Samurai Jack tonight! We need it to keep kicking butt in the ratings on Wednesday night! -

But those are subtitled episodes! Also, what the hell does "VRV" mean? -

I never understood why they have to make their own topicals and can't simply use/edit the next episode previews at the end of each episode? (The line gets blurred between the two for Samurai Jack and also got blurred for the Intruders.) I guess it has something to do with copyright issues? Even then you'd think they could take snippets of dialog from those. Hopefully we'll at least get snippets but the lack of topicals for Dimension W might be telling. I guess we'll see Friday night during Pre-Flight, and if not then, then maybe Saturday night? -
Attack on Titan Season 2 on Toonami April 22nd!
OwlChemist81 replied to Blatch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Mentioned again because it was relevant in time. I got to thinking Golden Week is usually this time of year, and maybe someone (Sketch) would have a better idea by now of if Attack on Titan was being pre-empted for it or not. Seems that it won't be. And...unliked! :it: ::spin:: -

That's a good question! Not really sure. It often got fewer viewers than its co-timeslot holder, but when that's DBZ Kai, you can't really expect too much. I'd say it's even possible that the rest of the block wouldn't have sank as low without it, although one only needs to look at March 11th to see an example of why that might not be the case. I'm not really sure what kind of magic the block had going for it back on February 25th and March 4th, and it managed to regain a little bit of it on March 25th, but it doesn't seem to have recovered it since. Maybe the return of Attack on Titan will bring the magic back? If they know what's good for them they'll play that promo again during Samurai Jack's rerun tonight! Also, somewhat related, the number of topicals Toonami has had by the year since 2014: 2014 - 2: Space Dandy and Attack on Titan 2015 - 1: Intruder II 2016 - 2: One-Punch Man and Intruder III 2017 - 3: Dragon Ball Super; Samurai Jack; and Sand Whale And Me...so far!! I would say before all's said and done 2017 could have as many as SEVEN shows getting topicals: AOT S2 might have them, the TIE probably will, and then there's FLCL and maybe even one other show... -

Uhhh, let's not worry about who has deserted us or not, whether they did so accidentally or not, and let's get back to the RATINGS, shall we? ::spin:: TOTAL VIEWERS RETENTION 8:00 PM Dragon Ball Super 870,000 10:30 PM Family Guy 1,290,000 11:00 PM Samurai Jack 1,297,000 (100.54%) 11:30 PM Dragon Ball Super 1,000,000 (77.10%) 12:00 AM Sand Whale & Me 881,000 (88.10%) 12:05 AM DBZ Kai: The Final Chapters 924,000 (104.88%) 12:30 AM JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 829,000 (89.72%) 1:00 AM JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 747,000 (90.11%) 1:30 AM Hunter × Hunter 687,000 (91.97%) 2:00 AM Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn 555,000 (80.79%) 2:30 AM Naruto: Shippuden 562,000 (101.26%) 3:00 AM Ghost In The Shell HD 510,000 (90.75%) TOTAL VIEWERS AVERAGE - 789,315 This was below average for 2017 and was down 15% on average from the block a year ago. However... ADULTS 18-49 RETENTION 8:00 PM Dragon Ball Super 443,000 10:30 PM Family Guy 787,000 11:00 PM Samurai Jack 848,000 (107.75%) 11:30 PM Dragon Ball Super 647,000 (76.30%) 12:00 AM Sand Whale & Me 549,000 (84.85%) 12:05 AM DBZ Kai: The Final Chapters 577,000 (105.10%) 12:30 AM JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 535,000 (92.72%) 1:00 AM JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 464,000 (86.73%) 1:30 AM Hunter × Hunter 422,000 (90.95%) 2:00 AM Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn 338,000 (80.09%) 2:30 AM Naruto: Shippuden 339,000 (100.30%) 3:00 AM Ghost In The Shell HD 337,000 (99.41%) ADULTS 18-49 TOONAMI AVERAGE - 500,259 This was actually ABOVE average for 2017 and down only 2% from the block average a year ago! So I guess that means the JoJo finale was actually sorta part of a success--who knew? Finally, as always: CURRENT SHOW AVERAGES Total Viewers Dragon Ball Super (8 PM) - 881,143 (14 episodes) Samurai Jack - 1,367,200 (5 episodes) Dragon Ball Super (11:30 PM) - 1,172,214 (14 episodes) Sand Whale And Me - 930,800 (5 episodes, finished) Dragon Ball Z Kai: Final Chapters - 1,038,267 (15 episodes) Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - 894,846 (26 episodes, taking a break) Tokyo Ghoul - 766,667 (3 episodes) Hunter × Hunter - 836,553 (47 episodes) Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - 710,200 (15 episodes) Naruto: Shippuden - 864,737 (154 episodes) Ghost In The Shell HD - 523,727 (11 episodes) Adults 18-49 Dragon Ball Super (8 PM, Estimate) - 422,071 (14 episodes) Samurai Jack - 877,000 (5 episodes) Dragon Ball Super (11:30 PM) - 712,143 (14 episodes) Sand Whale And Me - 592,200 (5 episodes, finished) Dragon Ball Z Kai: Final Chapters - 626,933 (15 episodes) Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - 546,923 (26 episodes, taking a break) Tokyo Ghoul - 482,000 (3 episodes) Hunter × Hunter - 497,043 (47 episodes) Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - 433,400 (15 episodes) Naruto: Shippuden - 479,698 (137 episodes) Ghost In The Shell HD - 327,182 (11 episodes) Adults 18-34 (Estimated) Dragon Ball Super (8 PM) - 272,308 (13 episodes) Samurai Jack - 609,000 (5 episodes) Dragon Ball Z Kai: Final Chapters - 429,400 (15 episodes) Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - 371,462 (26 episodes, taking a break) Tokyo Ghoul - 335,333 (3 episodes) Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - 299,400 (15 episodes) I had miscalculated the averages for Gundam and Shippuden for the past few weeks, but they have been corrected this week. Of most note is that Gundam has fallen below 300K average for 18-34. It may only be a matter of time before it has an episode below 200K if Attack on Titan doesn't change its fate. JoJo Season 1 is done and its final averages are 895K total viewers, 547K adults 18-49, and 371K 18-34, which are rather low for an average start time of 12:32 AM but still rather respectable. Sand Whale and Me has also concluded and its averages are 931K total viewers and 592K adults 18-49, which is also respectable for a show with an average start time of 12:05 AM, but of course pales in comparison to what Bleach and DBZ Kai have done in that timeslot (same is true for DBZ KFC which is actually doing worse than its predecessor). -

Doesn't translate well over message boards! S: ShowBuzzDaily has updated their Saturday ratings page, and we now know how well Hunter x Hunter, Shippuden, and GITS did. Putting it all together (so far), now we have this for 12:05 AM onward: 12:05 AM DBZ Kai: The Final Chapters 924,000 12:30 AM JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 829,000 (89.72%) 1:00 AM JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 747,000 (90.11%) 1:30 AM Hunter × Hunter 687,000 (91.97%) 2:00 AM Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn 555,000 (80.79%) 2:30 AM Naruto: Shippuden 562,000 (101.26%) 3:00 AM Ghost In The Shell HD 510,000 (90.75%) Keep in mind this doesn't include the final episode of Sand Whale And Me. Anyhoo, when it comes to retention among total viewers, it turns out the JoJos didn't doo too bad and Gundam was the turkey. Good on Shippuden for beating that though!
