a lot of the people i knew in highschool never left my old hometown

one person i used to be friends with is still working the same job as the same position in a supermarket that they were when we were both sophomores. the girl i used to have a crush on at my old retail job still works as a cashier but somewhere else. and the scary guy who used to be a huge bully is now a housewife. life is weiiiiiiiiiird

that is actually quite common here as well.

 

or at least, many of the people who do tend to leave eventually come back after they have established careers or some form of success in terms of employment. they fortunately bring their skills back and use them here. they hated it when they lived here and grew to realize it wasn't necessarily the place, but things within themselves or the opportunities available here that they hated. they actually love the location and the possibilities it holds for ventures in a cost effective way.... also, many have kids or are settling down with significant others at that point. they see a lot of promise in raising children here as opposed to some of the places they've run off to. its why this little shit of a city is finally doing things with itself.
