Oh cool, so they aren’t doing the anthology thing and it’s still a Spear (maybe Fang too?) story. I wonder what he will be up to.

Surprised to see them lay down a January release for this season. But that is only 2-3 months away.

In terms of the story, part of me wonders if the anthology route was the better path to take for this season, based on the news we have of it.

I assume this will get a Toonami slot during their annual budget refresh. But will it be the Midnight headliner, or does it get outshone and air at 12:30 instead?

I'm on board with most of what Genndy does and loved the vast majority of both Samurai Jack's final season and Primal, but he lost me with the endings of both of them. The former was "Gurren Lagann did this way better," and the latter was, um, yeah. It'll be interesting to see where he goes with this after that.

They won’t need a budget refresh for it. 
 

Toonami will likely do a same week encore. Maybe it’ll premiere there, but I’m not counting on that. 
 

Either way, it’ll absolutely be the headliner

Yea this works as a budget saver/excuse to lower the budget by eating up midnight for 10 weeks. 
 

Actually, we may never see midnight open up for more than a week or two this year. Primal, Rooster Fighter, Get Jiro, MAWS S3 and S4. Assuming each of those is 10 episodes minimum, that’s 40-50 weeks right there. Mix in some marathons and midnight is set all year without acquiring a single show. 
 

Theres also Super Mutant Magic Academy, which doesn’t have a home yet but seems very Toonami-coded. Though it may not be in the 2026 cycle given how little has been said about it.

So, uh is this gonna be some kind of retcon from the finale of S2? Like, Mira didn't actually fuck his corpse and this just takes place between his 'death' and the final scene with his descendant and he just ends up shuffling around doing primal shit for a while before they find some way to bring him to life so he and Mira can clap cheeks?

You can count on any show that’s not a straight up comedy to appear on the block as a rerun at midnight if they have no more headliner or original

For the show itself? Doesn’t bring much confidence.

Killing off the main character wasn’t a “mistake.” If this was a show meant to stay in production forever and ever, with Primal coffee mugs... then yes. But it was obvious from what you wrote before that shit ran its course a bit.

 

For the undead sub genre? Sounds more diverse than “I’m a girl and you’re a guy and we have to survive this somehow.”

I kind of wonder if Unicorn flopping on its face made Genndy a bit gun shy and more conservative about his future projects, hence bringing back Spear.

He wasn’t quite a corpse yet since he still managed to fire a sticky load into Mira. Credit to Mira for being able to get the man there with a barbecued wiener, though she was probably scraping off skin chunks from her inner thighs for a week. 
 

Anyway, the interview mentions the child, so this seems to follow right after the final scene. The kid looked to be like 8-10 already so I assume some kind of magic is used to make Spear a zombie since he should be pretty well a skeleton by this point.

Common Side Effects really stoked some new fears for us. Great show, but absolutely zero business being on Toonami. There was a window where OMGY really did feel like it was gonna show up, complete with TOM desperately trying to tell us why it belonged on the block.
