...you know him even if you don't remember knowing him.

Mathematics genius who was also a musical genius, he wrote numerous satirical as well as educational songs. If you remember watching the Electric Company, you were probably singing along to those cartoons teaching you about adding L-Y to words and N apostrophe T. Older people will be more familiar with using 'The Elements' song to try to get through Chem.

And while this board absolutely deserves to be linked to his Smut song, let's go a more gentler route in remembrance..

I've got a couple of his albums.  I was surprised a couple years ago to find out he was still around - not that I'd heard anything, just one of those assumptions that he was long gone.

This is one of those people that I know because of fit a particular niche: musician.

He is a major inspiration for Weird Al Yankovic and Stephen Lynch. He’s also a guy who’s written a LOT of works that people have no idea were his.

Sadly I don't think I've ever encountered any of his work.

He's one of those people that you probably have but don't know it since no one remembers who wrote the song 'N apostrophe T' but they might remember the proto-Oscar the grouch character bitching through the lyrics. And 'The Elements' was actually used as a main clue in an episode of 'NCIS' - it was on as background noise and suddenly there was the song in the background as the last thing a dead guy sent himself.

I saved up and got the 3 disc 'The Remains of Tom Lehrer' boxed set back in 2000 when it first came out. I knew he was still around and old but it still seems sudden.

This song has been used a few times in various tv shows - a standout was NCIS
