Look on the bright side. Since the Midnight slot is almost always going to be something Williams Street has a direct hand in, Primal and Rooster Fighter have 2026 pretty much booked in that timeslot for the first half of the year.

Filling in the summer and fall seasons, though? That might be trickier.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if an entire hour was cut after October, given the playbook so far.

Im curious why they created a slot by taking off Sailor Moon

We’ll see

It’s probably within striking distance of its expiration and they are just dealing with it now, while also relocating Naruto into the easiest slot to delete it as well soon.

Not really a bright side. Primal will once again not premier on the block, so that’s 10 weeks of a rerun lead. Then we get Rooster Fighter which thus far, looks like visual dogshit.

We can only assume they are stalling for something now. They wouldn’t waste a Dragonball for nothing

Also RIP Sailor Moon

I'm actually not surprised Sailor Moon bit the dust. It seems there may have been some actual contract renegotiation taking place when they doubled it up in the 5 PM timeslot on Toonami Rewind last year, since a year ago on 7/19/24 is exactly when that happened! That 1-year deal ended, so it's gone. It also might be tied to Bleach TYBW somehow since they're both Viz.

Maybe Naruto is sunsetting soon too, but I would think Ninja Kamui's sub would have needed to start the same week. Maybe it's too early, or maybe eventually it will be paired-up with Housing Complex C's sub closer to Halloween?

Shrug. I probably wouldn't even have hated it had I watched it. I just would've thought it was mid and not worth bothering with after the fact.

Aaaaaaaaaand there goes that bright side. :(

Sorry.

How about this: I will make an attempt to watch Rooster Fighter, and I'm sure I'll get some enjoyment out of it.

Hey, pity expressed for a show with an artist you like providing some of the music is a powerful thing. Like IGPX all over again, only this time even more disappointing.

Yeah, that'll do.

In a welcome surprise, the block received a stealth drop of fresh packaging tonight. We had been with the previous set since March 2022.

A huge improvement IMO. The previous set caused any footage used to have a terrible, grainy bitrate. New packaging is crystal clear.

Im eager to see what the new schedule graphics look like, but barring a marathon it’s probably gonna be awhile before we see one.

If anything necessitates a new package of bumpers, it's the steady stream of programming since May.

Seriously, we've got Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga, Dragon Ball Daima, and now Dan Da Dan. Whether or not you like these shows, you can't deny that two-hour stretch of anime deserves a new coat of paint to go with it.

Heck, aside from MAWS Season 3, One Piece, and a marathon or two, the Nov/Dec lineup is a near-total mystery as far as I know.

I've only seen a little bit of the packaging, but for my money, it slaps. My favorite Toonami look of all time is the one they had in 2014-15, with the minimalist graphics on a black background. This one feels like a fusion of that and the 2018 style (which accompanied the first round of FLCL sequels), using green accents and a circular motif. It's super clean and feels like it belongs on the biggest screen possible.

Looks like a blank schedule for 8/23. Blue Exorcist ends its season the week prior, so hopefully it’s just S3 tagging in.

We also have Bleach ending its first cour that night. Not sure if AS will treat each cour as an announcement if they air back to back.

Let's be real. They probably would treat it as an announcement, and the fans would eat it up.

Personally, I hope they do announce it if it's going straight into season 2, for both Bleach and Blue Exorcist. At the very least, it's confirmation that they aren't putting it on indefinite hiatus like they did with Mashle.

I'd say the same thing about the HD remaster of IGPX. Like, if it's just a placeholder for DBZ Kai reruns, why even remaster the show?

But I can understand where you're coming from about Mashle.

IGPX was remastered for BD. Jose really only expected to run eps on DST but provided the rest once Toonami decided to keep it around. Unfortunately probably did real bad so they dropped it again and don’t intend to show the 2nd season.

Mumble grumble they should air the second half anyway otherwise it's a waste, the cowards

At this point, it’s been off so long they would feel obligated to run S1 again just to get people back on board.

I'd say they might end up doubling up on OP on 8/23, then run a marathon on 8/30 before bringing both Bleach and BE back on 9/6.

I don’t think any of that will be necessary. Bleach is in a weird place, we talk about its 4 separate cours, but technically, they are all one single season. If there wasn’t a different show about to end, they easily could have just left it on the schedule and had it carry on with no announcement.

So they can bring in BE S3 as a “new” show. They don’t have to treat Bleach the same way, so it’s not like having new shows between 2 weeks.

They are already fighting uphill right now, no need to complicate things more with further pointless marathon delays. Especially since we are closing in on the excessive year end ones.

August 23rd schedule dropped; BE Season 3 confirmed!!

FB_IMG_1754670798355.jpg

You know what? I really don't care that we're losing 3AM--I would rather just flip to the West Coast feed anyway if I'm still awake and didn't catch earlier shows!

At 5 solid premieres and a 2025 rerun, you could argue Toonami has seldom been stronger!

Been a while since I've done a "freshness" analysis:

DB Daima - 2024-25

Dan Da Dan - 2024

Bleach - 2022-23

Blue Exorcist - 2024

One Piece - 2016?

Lazarus (sub) - 2025

Hard to get fresher than that! With the exception of One Piece, Toonami is all 2020s!

Expected continuation, and unexpected, but welcome, removal of the last of the Rewind mistake, as well as a long overdue dropping of that 7th timeslot.

This is what the block should aspire to be at all times, almost pure premier content. No more looking backwards.

Also, neat new schedule graphic. Has a bit more pop than the old one.

Naruto is still on and MAWS replaces CSE at 3:30 (that starts this Saturday). So they probably just forgot 3am on the graphic (again) because Naruto has Toonami bumps but MAWS most likely will not have Toonami bumps.

Eh, we will see. Remember that time Kai was on the schedule, then they decided it wasn’t? It lingered online for a few days.

Choosing to run Naruto after Lazarus always felt like it was set up to bump Naruto off easily soon.

Well, this is a welcome surprise. First, Blue Exorcist gets its third season on Toonami, adding to the welcome wagon with open arms.

Next, Naruto Classic may be off the Toonami brand, acting more as a lead-out alongside Superman. Whether this will be replaced or not, we shall see.

Finally, if Naruto is off the block, this means Toonami loses a slot, which allows for the budget to be allocated into finding better shows on the top. This is huge news for those who stuck around the early months of 2025.

However, there are two things I should say: One, there seems to be a vacant spot somewhere in September, even if BES3 airs back-to-back a few times this Fall.

Two, and most crucially, part of me is waiting for the other shoe to drop and reveal something less tolerable. Just don't cry about the future if I happen to be correct, and I will shed a tear of joy if I'm wrong.

Why does it matter? It's at the end of the block and they have nothing else to throw on there.

Because we chugged through 500 episodes of Shippuden over the course of 10.5 years. We have EARNED a block that doesn’t have Naruto on it. It’s a principle thing.

Not having anything else to put there is the point for cutting the slot entirely. It’s an extra slot that was just supposed to be for the Ninja Kamui sub run and they refuse to give it up for whatever reason. Put Futurama there are whatever, if it’s not part of Toonami anymore it doesn’t really matter.

Agreed on both charges, but if Futurama is only going to air Saturdays from 4 to 6 AM on the entire Adult Swim lineup, you might as well give them a fifth slot for the week.
