The court issued a decision in June that constrained the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions under a different anti-pollution law, the Clean Air Act. [...] On Tuesday, the justices are due to hear arguments in a case from Alabama that threatens to gut a landmark civil rights law. The 1965 Voting Rights Act, which prohibits racial discrimination in voting, was enacted at a time when Southern states including Alabama enforced policies blocking Black people from casting ballots. [...] The Supreme Court tackles race again in a dispute to be heard on Oct. 31 that might yield the most momentous ruling of the term, with the conservative majority in a position to end affirmative action admissions policies used by many colleges and universities to increase the number of Black and Hispanic students on their campuses. 1

SwimModSponges
Well, judgement #2 may make "people giving a shit" a moot point by removing their power to do anything with the shit they give.

Real_AirCooledGirl
What are rights? Are they things that we're born with and universal constants? Or are they fake and do we only have permissions that begin with "If it please the Crown"? Did rights always exist? Or are they magically created ex nihilo?

Yep, they're completely fake and we don't really have them. It's already been shown that they can be taken away at any time by the very people whose authority you supposedly have them under. It's an illusion and revisionist, fictitious history. "Everyone then had them, if anyone had theirs taken away that was just a special case, either the authorities or the individual were on some level wilding out and that made it a special case one way or the other. Oh there were a lot of those? A lot of special cases then, but the rights, they were ensured for everyone else, so that's, that's something" I mean slavery is literally on the ballot in Tennessee this year, it's been legal all this time. Amendment 3. What more can you even say? Edited October 14, 2022 by NewBluntsworth

That's rhetorical, we already know you won't respond to anything meaningful.

[...] Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson asked whether a photography store in a shopping mall could refuse to take pictures of Black people on Santa’s lap. “Their policy is that only white children can be photographed with Santa in this way, because that’s how they view the scenes with Santa that they’re trying to depict,” Jackson said. Justice Sonia Sotomayor repeatedly pressed Kristen Waggoner, the lawyer for Smith, over other categories. “How about people who don’t believe in interracial marriage? Or about people who don’t believe that disabled people should get married? Where’s the line?” Sotomayor asked. But Justice Samuel Alito, who seemed to favor Smith, asked whether it’s “fair to equate opposition to same-sex marriage to opposition to interracial marriage?” [...] Th[e] decision to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling prompted questions about whether the court — now that it is more conservative — might also overturn its 2015 decision declaring a nationwide right to same-sex marriage. Justice Clarence Thomas explicitly said that decision should be reconsidered.
