Final thoughts and opinions on MHA Season 5?

unlike season 4 which ended on the endeavor vs high end nomu battle cementing his place as the new number one pro hero in japan

season 5's season finale seemed lame in comparison

if the order had been shifted around then maybe that wouldn't be the case

however studio bones thought MVA would make for a better story to conclude the season instead of endeavor agency

i can see why they thought that but in doing so it screwed with a lot of stuff

While the added focus on Class B was nice and the importance to the plot via O MY SEVEN QUIRKS was completely understandable, I wasn't really all that excited with the Joint Training arc. I swear, if I hear Monoma proclaim "let's decide who's best once and for all!" one more time, I'm gonna print out a picture of his stupid face and set it on fire.

The Endeavor Internship arc and My Villain Academia (I still can't believe that's seriously the name they picked) were much more hype in comparison, and despite the jumbled order and cuts made to the latter arc from the manga, they remain perfectly good parts of the series, especially with how they aided in bringing the show to a point where it could be taken seriously without feeling uncanny.

Season 5 was a good, if lopsided, season, and I look forward to season 6 when it hits.

Spoiler

What I'm not looking forward to is the week where it will be the only anime on the Dropped section of my MAL list. If you've read the manga and my comments on the show, you can understand why I've got this planned out.

Those who don't follow the manga seemed to like this season fine and stands around the middle in terms of their MHA seasons ranking, while those who do follow the manga said it was the anime's worst season yet, with horrible pacing, subpar animation, and an abridged villains arc that ruined the whole show for them. It really depends on your stance. Me, I thought it was not at all the best season, but it was fine.

Hope everybody loved that beach filler episode, because they had to cut canon scenes from Villain Academia to make room for it! Nobody actually wanted to watch the anti-mutant KKK expy get their shit kicked and their hideout stolen, right?

I'd put it as my least favorite of the seasons. It's fine on its own, but from an adaptation perspective it fell pretty short of expectations. I'm always going to believe that swapping the arcs was a bad decision, especially since they obviously didn't put in the effort to smooth out the wrinkles caused by that change. The two main theories for why it happened, that they wanted the anime to match up with the movie's release or that they wanted a big final moment to end on, really don't make sense to me. The other movies weren't set anywhere near where the show was at the time, and season 3 ended with Mirio wrecking the class in a zero-stakes casual sparring match. Like, can you imagine if they'd leapfrogged over Bakugo's rescue and All Might's final fight, skipped straight to the license exam with basically no explanation, and then jumped to cover what they missed as one long flashback? Add in the completely unnecessary beach filler episode that barely ties into the movie it's supposed to promote, and that they went full One Piece and adapted one single chapter in an episode padded with extra flashbacks for no discernible reason, and it honestly almost feels like somebody on the writing staff just really didn't like MVA and stalled for as much time as possible. Like, they had to plan out the season in advance and knew how many episodes they had to work with. Someone chose to add that filler episode, even though it would mean taking screentime away from actual canon content. I don't think there's any way to justify that decision.

6.5/10, I guess. It's not terrible, god knows we don't have another Promised Neverland on our hands, but it could have been a lot better.

S4 slapped if you skip the entirety of the fall festival (which was cancer).

S5 was... okay? Middling for decent chunk of it, but nothing too bad.

You know me. I thought the fall festival was the most uplifting arc, and was needed after a serious, heavy action arc. Hell, the two antagonists were clearly supposed to be at least a bit funny, but even they were gripping too.

The levity wasn't the problem.

It coming across like it was written by a 5 year-old was the problem.

Of all the cuts MHA has done with Western comics, referencing Baby Doll from that one episode of Batman The Animated Series wasn't one I was expecting.

I think it's silly to say MHA Referenced that when La Brava's small size is never really mentioned nor is it a vital part of her backstory
