I know this franchise is decades old, but how come any time another installment of EVA comes out, or is released, it's on a totally different platform than any of the previous installments were on?? Can I ask for a bit of consistency? Have the Rebuild movies had three different outlets by now??

Also, no mention of a dub? Has Amazon ever funded a dub before?

It's just money. Amazon was able to throw the most money at the license, so they got it. This is a franchise that'll slap its logo on literally any piece of merchandise that's willing to pay for it, you think they give a shit which company puts it out in America as long as they don't fuck it up too bad?

I’m more surprised Amazon is doing this, since they haven’t really done a lot of newer animation.  I can only guess Invincible made them decide it made more sense.

From the looks of it, it’s probably the closest we’ve gotten to a reunion from the old dub with Amanda Winn Lee returning. There’s also the insane idea for all four movies getting a redub with this cast given how many actors were involved with the first three films, but it helps to make it consistent.

It also makes me question what was involved with Netflix to be put in the position where they’d have to redub it when Amazon got most of the old cast together. I’m guessing it’s a Khara issue given the 3.0 situation, but I feel bad that both casts were jerked around so much. Where the original cast was shafted from being a part of the newer dub and the Netflix cast was thrown under the bus for replacing older VA’s.

They got almost all the old dub voices back. Spike, Tiffany, Allison, Amanda, and John are all there. There are some new voices for Ritsuko and Kaworu, but it doesn’t feel as demoralizing as hearing about Amanda Winn Lee and Tiffany Grant having to audition for the Netflix dub and not getting their respective parts.

Sure, ... but that means all the old actors need to dub over the same lines of dialogue they made several years ago. Just with altered translations.

Honestly it's both surprising and refreshing given Amanda wasn't even in FUNI's Rebuild dub.

Just rewatched 1.11 & 2.22 with the new Amazon dub.

I appreciate them bringing Amanda back for Rei, but my fucking Jesus does this 'ultra-literal' mandate Khara has instilled for the translated script not work. It's so stilted to say that same shit in English, I appreciate Funimation's more punched-up effort.

All because annoying weebs had to be annoying weebs at a theater showing.

Welll ............ Tiffany and Amanda ... GOT THEIR WISH. After being outspokenly upset over being shut off from reprising their roles.  ... which I guess is the best thing I can say about all this.

Saw 3.33 for the first time last night (I've been abstaining until the Rebuilds were finished).

Wow. This is not anime anymore, it's an A24 movie. Absolute masterpiece. I can see why a lot of people hated it when it came out, but it might be my favorite Eva-related thing thus far.

3.0+1.0 tonight. I'm not ready.
