The1gairon
And Toonami proper just celebrated its 24th anniversary starting with Moltar! Edited March 20, 2021 by elfie
CountFrylock
i just had to make this topic so we can all realize how lucky we are this version has lasted this long.... any other network would probably have canceled it by now as what good is an anime block that starts very late at night? you don't see any other networks airing new content at the time toonami airs it's seen as nonsensical to air content that late without it being reruns

There really is no necessary reason why the block exists as AS could've just ran action shows on its regular line-up, but they're very passionate about keeping this block alive since it has a devoted niche audience. And the mergers have been forgiving with it too. Edited March 26, 2021 by elfie

Not many networks actually air new content on SUNDAY nights at midnight, but [as] always does! Edited March 21, 2021 by OwlChemist81

MasqueradeOverture
2012 to now has felt like one indistinguishable massive wash of stuff where time has been both suspended and fast-forwarded. 1

Top Gun
I miss the Ani-Monday block. It was this wonderful mix of legit fantastic shows and some of the absolute worst OVAs ever drawn by human hands. 2
OwlChemist81
Same. The joy of watching Gurren Lagann for the first time, and discovering Now and Then, Here and There afterward, only to experience the pain of having the whole thing interrupted by Strait Jacket (which admittedly was pretty good) and later some Central Park Media crap that was nigh-unwatchable (maybe it was X the movie?) when Gurren Lagann needed to take a dub hiatus was quite palpable. Also watched Gundam 00 as part of that block and discovered Descendants of Darkness. Man, Manga Entertainment was quite the mixed bag!

PokeNirvash
I remember making hypothetical broadcast edit lists for the first five episodes of Requiem from the Darkness as if they aired on SyFy, and then a year or two later those crazy bastards picked the show up. One of those few instances where I predicted the future without even trying.
Jman
You really want to feel old? Adult Swim turns 20 in September. Even the 9 years of the revived Toonami have seen the market for adult animation fundamentally shift and contort in ways that no one could have imagined when Toonami re-launched, much less when Adult Swim launched and for several years, was pretty much the only game in town for adult animation save the occasional fly-by-nite competitor that never really got the point. Of course, one could argue these days Toonami has fallen into the same trap it has watched competitors from Encore Action to Ani-Monday fall into, and that led them to think they would never end. Namely, people realize there is a market for this stuff. A big one. 1
OwlChemist81
There is a one-hour animated drama coming to AMC sometime in the next year. That will probably be Toonami's closest like competitor in terms of adult-oriented action animation. Though you could argue Final Space is kind of an "action dramedy." I just hope and pray the show doesn't air on Saturdays, although if it does, it will probably be earlier at night. In other news, Starz Kids is showing My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising at like 3:30 AM this Friday night/Saturday morning. Check your listings and set your DVR. EDIT: It's also showing at 9:40 PM next Monday night, April 5th! Edited March 29, 2021 by OwlChemist81
