Might build a PC instead of getting a new console.

The only thing I'd recommend changing is possibly forgetting the internal normal SSD, and replace it with an m.2 drive. Your board supports it.

Make sure you get one of these - 2242/2260/2280/22110 M-key

I'm trying to keep costs down where I can and this is far from finalized. I'm mostly waiting to see what kind of black friday deals I can find before I set anything in stone (though I'm pretty dead set on the cpu and gpu). If I can find an affordable one with at least around 250gb (maybe even 120 if the price is right) I'll get it.

Yeah I think I'm done with new consoles, new video games just don't hold me that much. It's like the direction Konami went. Games are in the business of making money instead of being a fun idea you have the means to bring to people, and all of that is available on steam if it's on a console it seems. I dunno, I think I'm just going to be beating the games I kept picking up over the years.

I'm keeping PS Now so I can potentially play a lot of PS games on the PC anyway, and then Game Pass isn't very expensive so there's tons of XBox games I can play on the the PC as well. Having the console is becoming less and less necessary.

I changed a few things,

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/YrPv8M

Went with a b550 board since price difference isn't too big, and I myself prefer to get the most recent chipsets for motherboards. Ram is the same size though a little lower speed, but the latency is better, the ram you chose have 19 cas latency, this pair having 16, so more responsive.

This ssd is only $10 or so more but it's an m.2 NVME ssd so it's much faster. As for the graphics card don't buy a 1660/Super/ti. Just wait and save up til Nvidia releases the 3060 which will likely be around $300-350 and so much more performance, considering the 1660 cards will likely be a lot weaker than the next Xbox.

For the power supply, 600 watts I think is kind of small, especially considering newer graphics cards are using more wattage than previously, Nvidia considering 700 watts the minimum needed.

Good choices but you've priced it well out of the budget I set myself. I can get 10% discounts on anything I get from walmart, so the $850 my list came to is actually well under that. I can get the 1660 Super there once it's back in stock, too. I'm sticking to 1080p and 60 fps because I don't really care about anything beyond that so I'm not doing anything too pricey and I've left myself some room to upgrade things in the future (hopefully not for at least a few years).

PC is better these days. So much is available in terms of content and flexibility, there really is no reason for a console.

Steam and GOG give you hours and hours of content, and streaming services are cheap.

Cord the cords (save internet) and you'll come out ahead in terms of monthly expenses.

Stream/record and make side hustle cash. People will watch people play old/new games and you won't run afoul of YT's idiotic ToS.

My biggest caveat is the lack of physical media. I'm not a collector by any means but I like getting something to hold in my hands when I fork over $60+. Plus there's no way to recoup any of my losses should I buy something I end up not liking or don't plan on playing again. Then again, most likely something I want to play will always be on sale and I can reserve full price purchases for games I just have to have day one (FFXVI, I'm looking at you).

With Steam as well as EA's Origin, and Ubisofts thing, not sure about the Epic Store, but if you buy a game if you have less than two hours of play time you can request a full refund for literally any reason, even if you just didn't like it. I've refunded a lot of shit with Steam, worked every time.

I'm aware of all that but I'm not sure how often I'll request refunds. I USUALLY know what I'm buying.

With all the new shit that's coming out I'm legit considering doing an overhaul of my system, even though realistically my current one would be considered overkill since I go long periods at a time where I don't play very demanding games.

In my main pc I have a ryzen 7 3700 that I have overclocked to 4.2ghz, with a 360mm radiator water cooler. I have 32gb of 3600mhz ram. My graphics card is a 2080 Super with a 240mm radiator water cooler. So realistically my pc can hold up for a good long while, but I'm more passionate about building and working on PCs than I am gaming ironically. In the coming months I'm legit considering upgrading my cpu to a 4th gen ryzen 7 when they're available, and my gpu to a 3080 when availability improves and current early adopter issues are fixed.

If I do that I plan on relegating my current parts to my living room pc. That pc uses a ryzen 7 2700, and my old gtx 1070. It's connected to a 4k tv and while it's technically capable of playing games at 4k it's not ideal. Sticking my current cpu and gpu in it will resolve that.

If I do upgrade my pc one thing I plan on doing is simplifying things a bit, no more water cooling. Air coolers have come to the point where I can get by perfectly fine with them.

I don't want water anywhere near this thing.

Keep in mind that Greeny can always add an M.2 later.  That's what I did with my current build.  I reused my HDDs and then got an M.2 a few months later.  Also I recently picked up a smaller SATA SSD just because I had a 10 dollar Newegg coupon to use.

Greeny, that wouldn't be my first choice in cards but the build looks solid enough.

I recently put a  Kraken x53 in mine and reused the Noctua fans that were on my H100i GTX.
I had the H100i for a few years but it never ruptured or leaked.  The performance was just getting low but that may have just been the dust...Gotta remember to take the rad out and clean it more often.

That card wasn't exactly my first choice either but if I can get some good black friday deals it'll give me some wiggle room. I was going to get a 1660ti but the slight performance increase didn't seem worth the extra $30 or so. Like I said earlier, I won't be attempting anything over 1080p 60fps for a long while, if ever, so I don't need an insane gpu.

I do get very nice temps on my cpu and gpu water cooled, but I got like 8 fans in my pc, and though I've never had any problems with water coolers, not gonna lie that water cooling even with all in ones do introduce more points of failure. Worst case scenario for an air cooler you just have to replace a fan, but if a pump dies you gotta take the whole cooler out and send it back in at your own expense if still under warranty. And air coolers for cpus have gotten to the point where they can keep up with and even outperform water coolers. Gpu cooling is where water cooling is so much more dominant. I used to get on average 82 celsius with an air cooler card, but with water it doesn't go any higher than 60 celsius

That's true.  Water cooling is just a personal preference.
I prefer AIOs over a large tower cooler because they allow me to access other components easier, I never have to worry about clearance with the side panel and find it's easier to mount a water block.

As for me, I do have a Switch and I also have a PS4 but I rarely play either of them. The only thing currently on the Switch that I care for is Fire Emblem 3 houses, and BotW (which I still need to finish). I do consider getting pkmn SS at some point but not sure if I want to or not. Quite literally the only thing I played on my Ps4 in close to two years now was Persona 5 & P5 Royal, but if Sega releases it on Steam like they did P4 I'll more than likely get it on that and more than likely won't ever touch my PS4 again.

Honestly I don't think I'm likely at all to buy another console, unless something I absolutely must have comes out. Microsoft has eliminated any slight interest or need for me to get an Xbox since they're putting all their games out on PC. When it comes to Sony there's nothing else I'm interested in. I loved TLOU1 when it came out and might buy it if they do release it on PC as well, but I will never touch TLOU2 or any sequels not even if they were free, Sony can burn in hell for destroying that series. The upcoming Nier game I must own, but more likely than not it'll also be released on PC.

Any future console I were to buy would likely be one from Nintendo solely for Zelda and Fire Emblem games.

@Greeny I was just suggesting that because of the performance gain you get from a PCIE M.2 drive, it's worth picking one as a boot drive for now and a couple of games, and just getting a large 1.5 TB or more HDD. You'll be better off because you'll probably find yourself playing a couple of games exclusively. You can get a 500GB one for a fair price and it will be worth it in the long run. Just my 2 cents.
