Wisdom teeth...

Distinct Lunatic

Recommended Posts

After many years of hoping I don't get them, followed by me thinking that I lucked out, one of mine seems to be coming through now. It being in the top right corner.

Was hoping someone with experience could tell me a thing or two, like if I will have to get it removed. I noticed it at some point this past month, and I do think it's actively coming through and not just poking through the gums. As far as I can tell I think it's growing straight down so I'm pretty sure it won't impact, but I am having some minor pain back there, which I'm assuming is due to it coming out of the gums.

I'm really hoping I can just leave it, cause I dread the thought of having to go and get it removed. On the bright side it is one of the top wisdom teeth, and I have heard those are a lot easier in comparison to bottom ones and with less swelling. On the other hand though my health insurance doesn't cover dental. I do need to speak to one of my guys or someone down at our HR about that, cause even though dental isn't included Id want to find out if that includes getting wisdom teeth removed since that's a surgical procedure and not a typical dental related thing.

It all depends. You should see your dentist and have them do an x-ray. One might have room but the others might not. I've never heard of medical insurance covering wisdom teeth but there's always a first time.

Pssh.. I got mine popped out finally. Thanks for reminding I better go dentist myself right now.. I havent been enough probably.

Although the best info I could pull said not to even use tooth paste for a while.. I have never bled so much from the mouth..

Even in a fight. That was crazy as shit. Things seemed to be going well though.. Healing, and what not.

I respect good dentists so much.. Shit. I can't imagine doing that for a living..

Depends on the person. Like cracky said, you'll probably be better off checking in with a dentist to see where all the wisdom teeth are currently located so there are no surprises.

I didn't have any problems with mine coming in. But when I had jaw issues, they all had to be removed to deal with that and it was not pleasant.

I thought I lucked out too but both mine on one side are growing in at the same time. The one at the top was fucking playing around erupting through my gums. I got an infection in December so Ive been to the dentist the most I have ever been in my life.

They havent grown in enough to have them removed. My dentist said I may to get the one at the top removed ... but not for awhile. The one on the bottom might not be a problem

Ive got dental insurance so I only paid for the antibiotics... which I could've got from the pharmacy but ehh ..

If they offer dental insurance, get it. Ive been paying for dental benefits for like 10 years and this is the only real time Ive used it for myself

I want to go to the dentist at some point, but I'm not looking forward to it since I haven't been there since like 2011 at best. Also I heard without insurance removing a wisdom tooth can cost over a grand.

I'm pretty sure that it's only the one I have. I think I can feel the ones on the bottom in the back of my mouth and I think those ones are also pointed straight up and don't seem likely to be impacting others, them both under the gums. On my top left side I don't think I have a wisdom tooth there, I can stick my tongue behind that one with plenty of room to spare, and above that there doesn't feel like there's anything hard like a tooth.

In February after I get my taxes back I think I might make a dentist appointment to get my shit checked out. If it turns out I will be needing the wisdom tooth removed I'll try to see if I can get it done during Spring back time since that'd be 5 days I'll be off in a row without needing to use any sick days or personal days.

Mine are coming in straight, I just dont think I have enough room in my upper jaw. Going to dentist is like the weirdest thing.

Then they wanna have a whole conversation and Im like

.... what do I do with my tongue =_=

I'm pretty sure there's enough room on my upper jaw. Now if it was my lower jaw we were talking about then I'd be fugged, cause i have no room behind my bottom back teeth. With my upper left side I'd say I have a fingers width of space between that back tooth and I can even go up a small amount. With the right side, that being where this tooth is coming in I'd say it's about the same width but because there is a tooth there I can't go up any like with the other side.

I was talking to my step-dad about this and he mentioned there's one of those universities in a city North of us where you have people studying to be dentists that will do procedures, it being something that's on a first come first serve basis, but because of that it'll typically be free or dirt cheap, him saying I could follow through with them to get xrays done, and they'll then advise me on if it looks like it will come in safely, or if I will need to get it removed. I'll probably look into that this Monday. As far as coverage goes, if I do end up having to have it removed he said it'd likely depend on if I have it done by a standard dentist, or if I go to a dental surgeon to have it done. In which case my health insurance should be able to cover it.

Hi, old lady here with a cracked wisdom tooth because I ignored it for so long, now it causes me pain and adds to my social anxiety.
I’m getting all of mine pulled next week before a midterm that Monday lol. Do it if you have the insurance. Mine are impacted, eventually grew out of their gums, and kept growing to where they were smashing my molars behind it causing it to crack. I know it sucks, but fixing it now will cause you less pain in the future. Imma gonna get super lit tho before the do the surgery. 😤

I was 17 when I had mine pulled, and insurance did cover it. Granted, that was almost 11 years ago. Times have probably changed. I'd speak with a dentist as others have advised already.

As for the procedure, I was put under. That morning was a blur. I remember waking up in bed with some packing in my mouth, tasting blood. My mouth was also very sore. If you do go through with having one removed, it may not be as bad. All four of mine had to be taken out, though.

Also, make sure to pick a food you won't mind getting sick of. I can't stand to eat chocolate pudding anymore due to post-operation recovery hunger spells.

That was something a buddy of mine talked about when it came to food, I think he said something like he was eating drinkable soup for a couple of days. He had 2 on the top that needed to go, and 1 on the bottom, the guy that removed his told him that he was lucky that there was only 1 on the bottom since those ones are the worse and you swell up the most from.

I've got a few in the back but they don't bother me and a couple just act as additional molars.  Two of them even seemto be taking the place on teeth I got pulled which is nice.

I'm really hoping I don't need to get this one pulled. I have very minor pain back there that much of the time I don't feel, it dropped a lot by this point, so I'm assuming (and hoping) that was just from it coming through the gums, and now that the top is exposed it should just grow in normally.

Tomorrow I'll try calling the people in our HR to ask about my health insurance, cause I have heard that if handled by a dental surgeon then it's something your health insurance will cover. That said, I was looking around a bit online and I found one dental insurance provider that has a plan for around $30 a month that will cover up to $1000 in expenses, though it says that I'd have to keep the policy for a year before I can drop it, and it wouldn't take affect (assuming I got it today) until March 1st.
