For example, the automobile was a humanity changing invention because it changed the way people travelled to places. The Magnavox Odyssey was a humanity changing device because it ushered in a new form of home entertainment that didn't involve board games and pets. The discovery of new planets that might, but are quite unlikely to, support life in a solar system that might never be reached considering the limits of current technology can hardly be considered *chuckles and adjusts monocle* a humanity changing event. 8)

It is sometimes used to describe the core values of being human, but that tends to be problematic since what it means to be human varies across multiple perspectives. The discovery of planets can alter humanity if such is defined of that related to being human but it would not alter the state of being human, nor would it likely change our core values.

Though I don't think it's a problem that's unique to just our message boards.I see it in a lot of places on the internet. Something about the ability to communicate mostly anonymously gives people this outlet to just vent out their frustration and hate. I don't know...to me it just doesn't make sense cause life is way too short and I'd rather spend it being productive or having a good time. I guess some people just get their jollies off of being THAT pissed off or needing that much unwarranted drama in their life. All I know is that everyone has crappy stuff happen to them but forget about internet stuff, I don't think I've ever had someone do me such personal harm that I wished death upon them. I mean whenever I see someone say that kinda stuff online, it just makes me feel sorry for them because it takes some kinda anger to get that upset with some random internet stranger who you probably don't engage with for maybe more than a couple of minutes a day. It's kind of a scary notion when you think about it because it's like well jeez....how easily do you get upset in real life? I just felt like responding because most of the time this kinda stuff goes on and no one says anything. And the people posting it go....well it must be okay to say. And maybe in some people's eyes it is okay but there are others out there who don't think it is and I guess in this instance I fell into that category. Annnyyyywwaaaays this post is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too preachy. I'm going back to posting just .gifs and youtube clips from now on

Dude, forget youtube. Go try reading the comments section on a yahoo news article sometime. I swear I went on there once to read about this snowstorm and somehow the comments section was completely about politics....with people telling each other to go kill themselves left and right (I just realized that I made a pun without intending to ). All I kept thinking was....yup, this is why we can't have nice things.
