Jason DeMarco Twitter Q&A 7/6/19

Recommended Posts

At one point during this vacation, Jason DeMarco decided to hold a twitter Q&A, where he enlightened, among other things, the fate of the 4 shows announced at MomoCon. If you thought Food Wars or Demon Slayer was one of them, sorry but nope, because they actually FELL THROUGH. And of course there's 1 or 2 yet to be announced...

Food and Demon are B list replacements?

We don't know, but considering that Demon Slayer isn't premiering for a few more months, I don't think it replaced anything. This was probably a case of announcing it as the ink was drying.

But if gen:Lock is actually coming to the block (nice rhyme), I could see that being a quick and dirty filler to hold SAO's slot.

So you're saying Food Wars isn't airing after they already aired promos for it last week? oO  That's pretty late in the game for a deal to fall through.

No he's saying Food Wars is the replacement for something that did fall through.

How come no one made a Gen:LOCK thread then?

Still on vacation, so I doubt he did anything to talk to the people who made the MHA change like he claimed he would.  Demarco is fiddling while Toonami burns!

Also -

Remember, this man's tastes are part of what makes the block.  "We only air what we like!"  BLEH!

Ok, that's not what he said, but that makes much more sense.

"the fate of the 4 shows announced at MomoCon. If you thought Food Wars or Demon Slayer was one of them, sorry but nope, because they actually FELL THROUGH."  So what were the 4 shows announced at MomoCon that FW and DS were not among?

So two fell through.  Food Wars and Demon Slayer weren't any of the four.  There's still two shows that he talked about at that convention that have yet to be announced.

I would love to know what all four were myself.

So in other words, he announced four shows at Momocon that he didn't actually announce, other than to say there were four of them?  The more people try to explain this, the stupider it sounds. oO

Oh, I don't think it is DeMarco fiddling while Toonami burns as much as it is [as] execs pissing napalm on the fire....

The executives are beginning to plan for HBO Max, which will include Crunchyroll and AS originals.  Toonami may get the short end of the stick here.

Food Wars and Demon Slayer may not have been the two shows Demarco teased at Momocon, but they're two shows we learned we were getting after the tease, so as far as I'm concerned, his promise came true, sort of.

I'm betting Dr. Stone was a fall through. Possibly Fire Force as well.

It would tie in with the inexplicable grave-slotting of MHA if things with Funi went sour.

Figures. Dr. Stone is the hottest new shonen right now, it's consistently at the top of the Shonen JUMP polls. Only the most lucrative bid would do.

I am on the belief that MHA being thrown away at the bottom of the block was a left-over move from one of the fallen shows that wound up not airing, and Toonami couldn't reverse it for some reason.

Execs: "Hey Toonami, you have an ideal block!! Most are dub premieres, no marathons for six months. Congrats! You been perfecting and building up to this moment for years without any executive meddling!  .... it would be a SHAME if something were to ....... go wrong...."

Demarco, Gill, and the others hold a lot of influence and are heavily involved in the block, otherwise there would have been no difference between Toonami and the old ASA.  They've also been personally involved in acquisitions as they made multiple trips to Japan to negotiate directly with Sunrise to bring Gundam back (totally worth it /s.)

And the way Demarco reacted to the backlash to the MHA move is telling he is not innocent in all this.

HBO Max is Warner's new streaming service. I'm CERTAIN it will stream Toonami as well.

If you were wanting Toonami on HBO, you're sorta gonna get your wish...

In the time traditional TV has left, we may actually see a Game of Thrones animated spinoff on HBO with 28-minute uncut episodes, and 22-minute edited episodes on Toonami!

HBO is part of Warner?

We never had the actual HBO channel.  Too expensive, and those premium channels were usually much better during the free previews than when you actually get the channel.  Then they started doing those original series, but I can't say they ever interested me much.  Game of Thrones itself is basically like the Borgias and Medici that happens to take place in a fantasy setting.  A political drama.  No thanks.

I don't know how a streaming/on-demand Toonami would work or even what would be the point.

Demarco seems to think traditional cable is still going to last a while.  I can't link you to the Ask.fm post now because their mobile page is still loading malware garbage, and I'm not going to the computer right now, but the post should still be fairly recent.  Demarco says it's a slow bleed, and you'd be paying as much as a full cable bill to get all the streaming services now that everyone thinks they need to have their own.  He's not wrong about the last part at least.  It defeats the purpose of having those streaming services if everyone has one and all the content is separated instead of being in one place like on Hulu and Netflix, and not saving you any money.

Ok now that's just crackpot nonsense.

Why would Crunchyroll and AS shows be on HBO?

HBO Max is essentially combining all of Warner’s available stuff into one Uber service, and Crunchyroll was specifically mentioned, along with TBS, TNT, CW, HBO, and DC Universe.
