The most they accomplish is getting out of the house and escaping past the walls, with only the children older than 4, and leaving Phil as the new man of the house children, with the intent of returning for the rest of them in 2 years, which all sounds extremely unlikely. None of the way this world works is actually explained. This only adapted a small portion of the manga though, and a second season is coming in 2020.
