usually when someone takes your phone or steals your phone, the phone thief turns the phone off immediately so that you can't track your phone

well just now when i tried to turn off my phone, it asked for my password or fingerprint!!

this makes me happy because if my phone ever goes missing, i can still track it!! HA HA TAKE THAT WOULD BE THEIVES!!!!!!!!!

Like that would stop them from taking the battery out of the phone?

You cant take the battery out of most phones these days.

But... theft is a numbers game. They dont give a shit. If they cant turn it off they throw it in the toilet and move on.

Hmm.

Interesting.

Well, the point is, it would still be without its phone and we might enjoy a couple hours/days without its racism/trifling/indolence/stupidity.

What phone would this be?

Pretty sure the last 2 or 3 phones I've had have this. And my iPhone 5 work phone does, too.

Wait I totally misread this as needing the password when you reboot. Never mind me I'm dumb.

It shouldn't affect gps just the compass

It turns out the compass function is also wired to the GPS since it tells you your direction  if a compass is screwed up then you won't have accurate information leading to false locations
