garbagepailcat
I have three of them and they’re beautiful. I have no fucking clue what they are or how/when to prune them though. Mr Owl
It looks like a crabapple Can you get a closer picture of the flowers, leaves as well as the it's in state? I know horticultural to a degree
Ginguy
Looks like a dogwood to me. Check and see if the flowers have four petals, and some red or pink near the center. You can prune it to shape, but I would do so gradually so you don't shock the tree. For the most part, I would work on cleaning up the area around the trunk, and if you can then take some of the smaller branches from the canopy to make it more uniform and allow a bit more sunshine into the lower branches. A pole pruning saw would probably be a good investment, something like this. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Corona-14-ft-Fiberglass-Compound-Bypass-Pole-Pruner/50207761
discolé monade
looks like a dogwood, that is without really being able to see it. but it looks like a dogwood. unless it's puts off fruit, then i would say a plum tree. also...a very lovely tree. <3 Edited March 15, 2019 by discolemonade

Mr Owl
Could also be a cherry tree @garbagepailcat can you get a closer picture of the flowers for me?
discolé monade
nah. it's not a cherry tree. that's a definate. and highly unlikely that it's a plum, but not impossible. see the bottom cradle of branches, that's how the one in the mil's yard looks. but i mentioned plum because of the pinkish white flower, that really looks so much like a cherry blossom. Edited March 15, 2019 by discolemonade disco can't english today.

garbagepailcat
It’s definitely not a dogwood. I know them, and they aren’t blooming yet. These have pinkish white blossoms like disco said. I’ll get a better picture tomorrow of the blossoms and bark!
garbagepailcat
I was thinking wild cherry, but that’s really just a shot in the dark. 🤷🏼♀️
