What’s this tree

Looks like a dogwood to me. Check and see if the flowers have four petals, and some red or pink near the center.

You can prune it to shape, but I would do so gradually so you don't shock the tree.

For the most part, I would work on cleaning up the area around the trunk, and if you can then take some of the smaller branches from the canopy to make it more uniform and allow a bit more sunshine into the lower branches.

A pole pruning saw would probably be a good investment, something like this.

I have three of them and they’re beautiful. I have no fucking clue what they are or how/when to prune them though.

looks like a dogwood, that is without really being able to see it.

but it looks like a dogwood.

unless it's puts off fruit, then i would say a plum tree.

also...a very lovely tree. <3

Could also be a wild plum tree

nah. it's not a cherry tree. that's a definate. and highly unlikely that it's a plum, but not impossible.

see the bottom cradle of branches, that's how the one in the mil's yard looks.

but i mentioned plum because of the pinkish white flower, that really looks so much like a cherry blossom.

well if the tree hasn't been maintained in a while its possible that it could be anything
